The great yoga adventure

The great yoga adventure

Hi all,

So...somehow I seem to have made myself a deal with @CheerBear that we are both going to venture into the super scary world of yoga next Monday. I'm SCARED!!!! I've been trying to psych myself up to go to a class for about a year and now thanks to a pesky little care bear, it seems like it is going to happen next Monday.

I have my mat and my outfit (and thanks to @Former-Member and @Former-Member I know to wear underpants under yoga pants ). Now I just need to find some courage. Hmmm...courage...I'm sure I have some here SOMEWHERE in my shell...

Only six sleeps away. This sounds way too close. Yep, this little turtle is going to need to do some serious psyching up before next Monday!!! All encouragement is warmly welcome.

Re: The great yoga adventure

Hmmmm?? A very interesting session at the yoga studio this afternoon. Not the usual one that I go to. It seemed to be a mixture of yoga and aerobics. The background music was far too loud and distracting as I found myself singing along in my head to the lyrics. Much prefer non obtrusive instrumental stuff.

We did quite a few chair poses so I have chaired but we also did bouncy moves and crunches - very strange. Don't think I'll be going to that class again. The plus was that there were only four students. Looked to be an impending thunderstorm so that may have frightened a few away.

You're right @Phoenix_Rising, the twisty pose I was thinking of was Eagle Pose.

Wonder if @Former-Member and the kids made up a dining setting with their chairs? Just need someone to do the table top pose.

Good luck, Pheonix Rising, I'm sure you will enjoy it. A colleague is currently on a yoga retreat, which I quite like the idea of myself, as I considered doing that years ago and never got round to it. I wanted to teach yoga once, as I thought it would be a gentle way to earn a living.

Yoga is great for your mental health, as it works holistically with your mind and body to provide both exercise and relaxation. Try not to overthink it, just have fun and relax into it if you can. If you can't, perhaps have a word with the yoga teacher beforehand, to mention you're slightly nervous?

I hope it goes well. Best wishes, Spirit

@Former-Member and @soul do you think we need to do table pose next week so that we have tables to go with all the chairs in Forum Land?

@Shaz51 you are very welcome for the call-out. You will be even more welcome if you report back that you have chaired today.

Oh a Kermie video, how cool is that...

Yes @Phoenix_Rising I think that sharing with you all about my doing the iRest book (program) will help to maintain some momentum & motivation - which is always a good thing.

Along with the fact that it is a yoga program, so it is relevant to this thread (topic). Funny how I only realised that, after several weeks of reading it...

Yes it is a good thing (when helpful) to tell some people about our MH issues. My yoga teacher only thought of telling me about (& recommending) the iRest book, as a result of my telling her that I have CPTSD.

Unfortunately, it took me almost 6 years (of going to her class) to feel safe or comfortable enough to tell her that...

Oh, by the way it was actually my Psychologist who recommended Yoga to me - her suggestions & encouragement got me to go to a yoga class for the very first time in 2011.

I told my yoga teacher (back then) that it was my Psych who had recommended yoga classes - the yoga teacher said that she wished that more Psychologists would recommend yoga to their clients...

Good on you @Phoenix_Rising for feeling able to tell your yoga teacher about your SH.
