The great yoga adventure

The great yoga adventure

Hi all,

So...somehow I seem to have made myself a deal with @CheerBear that we are both going to venture into the super scary world of yoga next Monday. I'm SCARED!!!! I've been trying to psych myself up to go to a class for about a year and now thanks to a pesky little care bear, it seems like it is going to happen next Monday.

I have my mat and my outfit (and thanks to @Former-Member and @Former-Member I know to wear underpants under yoga pants ). Now I just need to find some courage. Hmmm...courage...I'm sure I have some here SOMEWHERE in my shell...

Only six sleeps away. This sounds way too close. Yep, this little turtle is going to need to do some serious psyching up before next Monday!!! All encouragement is warmly welcome.

@Former-Member Er...burns what??? {Tries not to think too hard about what @Former-Member could possibly be doing while chairing}.

@Former-Member Giggle. I love that you are competing at yoga. I'm pretty sure there is some rule somewhere about competitiveness being the antithesis of yoga-ing.

Yay for a family of chairs.

Re: The great yoga adventure

@Former-Member you are right about that! My yoga teacher makes us go as low as we can, if one person wobbles the rest have to start again!

@Phoenix_Rising haha my thighs! Too much lactic acid!

Re: The great yoga adventure

Had a really cool yoga session this afternoon. It was very hot here today and I think that may have put some people off. When I walked past the dog park on the way to the studio, it was completely vacant.

Anyway, there were only three of us - almost like a private lesson as the instructor put us through a few moves that we normally wouldn’t have done. She could take the time perfecting our poses; something that is a bit of an impossibility in a large class.

We did full bridges AND a head stand!!!! What do you think of that @Phoenix_Rising? We also did very tricky things with straps and lots of chairing.

Sometimes we have also done a variation of the chair pose by twisting one legs around the other and sitting very deeply. And we also twist our arms. Maybe that’s a whole different pose - not sure. It sort of feels like we are about to sit.

Excellent @Phoenix_Rising.

So the awesome NikNik has her techno dudes trying to solve the no notifications problem.

I wondered why no one seemed to be posting anything all day today - then I finally discovered that they had been.

But no notifications were showing up.

I did some bodgy chair poses today, I hope they count.

Thanks so much @soul & @TheVorticon & @Phoenix_Rising - For your interest & enthusiasm for the iRest book & program that I've been doing.

It's been hard going doing it on my own, with no group of people to practice it with or share stuff about it.

It was developed in a group setting with groups.

I think listening to the audio makes it more effective.

Oh @soul I forgot to mention that the iRest book can be bought from Google play store (e book).

Or a printed copy from Amazon books.

I bought the eBook from Google play & downloaded it onto my phone.

It was actually my Yoga teacher who recommended the book to me - that's because I told her that I have Complex PTSD.

Re: The great yoga adventure

Good evening everybody,

I have chaired today, have you?

@Former-Member Phew, I'm glad you clarified what burns when you do chair pose. For a moment there I thought I was going to have to issue a safety warning about not being a chair over candles or any other flames.

@soul Oh I am so jealous of your small yoga class!!! That is SUPER cool that you did a head stand. Weren't you telling me just the other day that you didn't think you could do one? I am super excited for you that you did something that you didn't think you could do.

Soul the way you described the variation of chair pose by twisting your arms and legs around kind-of sounds like it turns into eagle pose???

@Adge I'm wondering if maybe sharing with us what you are learning in the irest program will help you maintain your momentum with it? That would certainly be an interesting addition to the great yoga adventure. That's cool that you were able to share with your yoga teacher that you have complex PTSD. Prior to my private lesson I emailed my teacher and explained that I have some MH issues and consequently engage in SH at times. The reason I told her was because when I'm wearing a singlet, the area where I SH is extremely evident. As I told my yoga teacher, I've had instances of going to a physio or something and they ask about it, and then when I tell them, they have no idea what to do with the answer. Thus I figured that telling my yoga teacher via email would remove any awkwardness. And yes, the plan worked perfectly. She wrote a super nice response and then the issue was a total non-issue during the lesson. I super like her.

Well I hope there are a few more chairs floating around in Forum Land. I will be chairing again tomorrow.

Happy yoga-ing.
