The great yoga adventure

The great yoga adventure

Hi all,

So...somehow I seem to have made myself a deal with @CheerBear that we are both going to venture into the super scary world of yoga next Monday. I'm SCARED!!!! I've been trying to psych myself up to go to a class for about a year and now thanks to a pesky little care bear, it seems like it is going to happen next Monday.

I have my mat and my outfit (and thanks to @Former-Member and @Former-Member I know to wear underpants under yoga pants ). Now I just need to find some courage. Hmmm...courage...I'm sure I have some here SOMEWHERE in my shell...

Only six sleeps away. This sounds way too close. Yep, this little turtle is going to need to do some serious psyching up before next Monday!!! All encouragement is warmly welcome.

Re: The great yoga adventure

Good morning everybody, I have already done my shoulder stand for the day, have you? I find that starting off the day with yoga-ing is definitely super helpful in managing my big feelings.

@CheerBear I super like the idea of little and middle joining our yoga group. It sounds like big is too big to think this is cool.

@soulYou are probably right - everyone is falling asleep after herding goats.

@Adge we do a bazillion downward dogs in class too. I'm sure there is some deep and meaningful reason why this is such an oft-used pose...not that I have any idea what that reason is! Anyway, as soul said, we've already done that one here so you're safe. I got the sense that it wasn't @TheVorticon's favourite pose either.

Good morning @Former-Member, I love that you popped by to say hi. Hi right back at you.

So it sounds like chair pose and then forward fold pose are the next two on our list. Soul I super like your theory that people do the chair pose just before they sit down for a meal.

Happy yoga-ing everybody.

Hey everybody, guess what I just did? I booked in for my first private yoga lesson!!!!! I'm super excited. It will be at 7am on Monday. She said we will "work through some basic alignment in light of your flexi-ness and then we can work through inversions." I had told her that it would be good if she could take a look at how I stand on my head, to make sure I'm not at risk of doing myself an injury given how often I do it.

This is so superly duperly exciting. @NikNik @Former-Member @Former-Member @Former-Member @CheerBear @soul @Adge @Former-Member

Sounds very exciting @Phoenix_Rising. Next thing you know the peeps from cirque du soleil will be knocking at your door wanting to sign you up.

Can't wait to hear how you go. Inversions - sounds tricky for those of us who prefer our feet on the ground. Have heaps of fun!!!!

I enjoyed a beautiful candlelight yoga session tonight. I shoulderstood (is that even a word?) before the class began.

There was only a small group as I think the afternoon thunderstorm kept some people home. Just the way I like it.

Look at all the benefits of putting your legs up.

Does it still count for the previous day if the shoulderstand is done after midnight?

Re: The great yoga adventure

It looks like the yogis have gone into hibernation but that’s pretty strange because winter is over.

I shoulderstood before my session today. The instructor must have noticed because in the group class, we all did a supported shoulder stand with a bolster. So I have double shoulderstood.

Wow - felt like I was yoga-ing in a mosh pit tonight. I have never been to such a full class. The instructor had to tailor the poses so that we weren’t too stretched out otherwise we would be on top of each other.

Didn’t should stand there but practised it at home afterwards. Last chance peeps. Tomorrow is a brand new move.

Yea legs up the wall is a very tough pose for me - it's one of the poses that I can barely do, except with a lot of strain & effort...

Even after 6 years of trying to do it (& others).

It's not relaxing for me (at all), because my hamstring are far too short (too tight). I can never straighten my legs for any of the "straight legs in the air" poses

It's always "bow-legs up the wall" for me - while all the women in the class have perfectly straight legs (up the wall). Rather embarrassing for me...

That's why I always try to celebrate (to myself) when there's a pose that I can more easily do...

I always do daily breathing meditations, which is a Yoga practice, even though it's not a physical yoga "pose"...

My favourite instructor gives us variations for many of the poses. She says that everything is optional except breathing @Adge.
