The great yoga adventure

The great yoga adventure

Hi all,

So...somehow I seem to have made myself a deal with @CheerBear that we are both going to venture into the super scary world of yoga next Monday. I'm SCARED!!!! I've been trying to psych myself up to go to a class for about a year and now thanks to a pesky little care bear, it seems like it is going to happen next Monday.

I have my mat and my outfit (and thanks to @Former-Member and @Former-Member I know to wear underpants under yoga pants ). Now I just need to find some courage. Hmmm...courage...I'm sure I have some here SOMEWHERE in my shell...

Only six sleeps away. This sounds way too close. Yep, this little turtle is going to need to do some serious psyching up before next Monday!!! All encouragement is warmly welcome.

Yes - the crow pose is certainly a challenge @CheerBear@Phoenix_Rising.

You're right in that the devotion of the yogis seems to be waning. That goat promotion was a real game changer and now the bar has been lifted so high.

Perhaps we should aim to do a restorative pose next week and sing its praises.

Hope the ocean is calmer for you now @Phoenix_Rising.

Re: The great yoga adventure

I'm off on my yoga retreat tomorrow (Friday), at a place with a funny name - named after the Kookaburra bird.

At least I thought it was funny, which was the only reason why I mentioned it.

I've never done a yoga retreat before, & this one looks pretty full-on. With a schedule that starts at 6am every day, & finishes at 10pm at night.

So thinking about it started being anxiety-provoking (a few days ago).

It sounds (or looks) exhausting. Anyway, I'm trying to keep an open mind, & I'm sure that the food will be good....

Food is a good incentive (or prize), since @Phoenix_Rising mentioned that sometimes we need prizes to motivate us (I think maybe that helps).

I hope I manage okay, I think I will. I've almost recovered (after 4 weeks) from a nasty long bout of Bronchitis & Tonsillitis.

Yet I've been in a rough emotional place (grief) over the last few days, because my favourite 14 year old cat Minx just had to be euthanased. I buried her today, that was really rough.

So maybe I do really need to go on this yoga retreat right now. I'll do my best to "stay present" so that I can get the most out of it.

Maybe we will do lots of Bridge poses over the weekend...

I'll certainly learn new yoga poses (& techniques), & will get to do lots of meditating...

Without even seeing the picture I am laughing and agreeing with it @Phoenix_Rising 😄 Yep, never ever ask me to build a bridge, or a pyramid, or write an explanation, or give directions... or pretty much anything important at all 😉

Is there a lying down fetal pose for next week @soul? Or one that almost everyone does in their sleep? That way everyone can say they've done yoga during the week and everyone wins 😄

Re: The great yoga adventure

I just did a bridge pose...

The retreat is supposed to be a healing-focused yoga retreat, about mother earth & the goddess.

Yes, healing sounds great, need lots of that...

What about corpse pose @CheerBear?...I'll be down for that! I can do that one under my desk like I did with child's pose (shhh....dont tell anyone that's where I'll be hiding )

@Adge I am really sorry to hear of the passing of your cat. I am well-aquainted with the grief of losing a pet.

Re: The great yoga adventure

So sorry to hear about the loss of your feline friend, Minx @Adge. I hope the yoga retreat will allow you to gently process the grief you must be feeling. Perhaps it has come at a good time.

Cant wait to hear all about your yoga retreat. Maybe you could impart some insights you find particularly valuable. I have been to a health resort before where we did Qi Gong each morning. The food was delicious. We also had beauty treatments and massages. There were plenty of activities to do but they were all optional.

Hope you have the best time.

Re: The great yoga adventure

Yeah @Former-Member - everyone in Forumland can lay claim to having done that pose a lot. Don't think we'd even need to give out incentives for that one.

Re: The great yoga adventure

@Former-Member Where did you spring from? Well...since you've brought up the topic of corpse pose, you can help me solve a puzzle. I actually really want to have corpse pose for the pose of the week...but something really doesn't sit well with me about doing a pose called corpse pose given how much I (and some others around here) struggle with suicidal ideation. I see no reason why we can't rename a pose in this most peculiar of yoga classes...we just need to come up with a name. So...what's the answer to this puzzle @Former-Member or anyone else?

Re: The great yoga adventure

How about Sleeping Beauty Pose @Phoenix_Rising or we could give it the official name Savasana?
