The great yoga adventure

The great yoga adventure

Hi all,

So...somehow I seem to have made myself a deal with @CheerBear that we are both going to venture into the super scary world of yoga next Monday. I'm SCARED!!!! I've been trying to psych myself up to go to a class for about a year and now thanks to a pesky little care bear, it seems like it is going to happen next Monday.

I have my mat and my outfit (and thanks to @Former-Member and @Former-Member I know to wear underpants under yoga pants ). Now I just need to find some courage. Hmmm...courage...I'm sure I have some here SOMEWHERE in my shell...

Only six sleeps away. This sounds way too close. Yep, this little turtle is going to need to do some serious psyching up before next Monday!!! All encouragement is warmly welcome.

Thanks heaps for the shirt @soul 😄 Definitely one that I'd wear 🙂
@Phoenix_Rising looks like I've got time to watch the bridge pose video today, although it sounds tricky!

Re: The great yoga adventure

Good evening everybody, I have bridged today, have you? I'm still stuck in a gigantic storm in my world, and I'm dealing with some super big waves out on the ocean. However, lucky for me, I'm a sea turtle and I can be a bridge underwater...like this.

Look @NikNik @Former-Member @Former-Member @Former-Member @Former-Member, I'm an underwater bridge. If I can do that, what's YOUR excuse for not bridging today - hmmm???

@soul That sounds really cool having only five students in your class. My class gets busier than I would like, although the teacher is great at keeping an eye on everyone and making sure everyone is going ok. When we bridged in class on Monday, we did the leg up in the air thing too.

@Former-Member I am super excited that you bridged today and I super like that picture you posted. When you are in the SANE office, can you please poke some of those other slack moderators and get them to do some bridging.

@soul For some reason, that picture you posted of the person doing a bridge pose under a bridge with toy cars on it made me think of @TheVorticon. I can imagine him doing that!

@Shaz51 Yay for bridging today.

@TheVorticon I hope you managed to bridge tonight. I don't think it is superly duperly tricky...though I hope you don't get any bum cramps like poor @Former-Member did!

Ok, well I plan to be bridging again tomorrow. Happy yoga-ing.

Re: The great yoga adventure

Did a Vinyasa class tonight and really enjoyed it. It's a bit more energetic than the Yin which I often do. Either I'm getting fitter or it wasn't as difficult.

I did try a crow pose. Look it up @Phoenix_Rising. I reckon you could do it no problem. I'll have to practise that one. Face planted a couple of times.

We bridged as well. Like that underwater bridge idea - very cool.

Re: The great yoga adventure

Thanks @Phoenix_Rising yes Im keen to participate in the yoga adventure :). Im a big fan of yin yoga at the moment. Lots of time to sink into a strecth and focus on breathing. Great for winding down at the end of the day or before sleep...

Re: The great yoga adventure

Hi @Former-Member - good to see you over at the Yoga Adventure thread. Isn't @Phoenix_Rising wonderful for starting this and making sure it runs smoothly? She and @CheerBear got me into group yoga sessions a couple of months ago and I can't thank them enough.

Now I go to a session just about every day. I like Yin too. I went to that style of class tonight. It was led by a guy and at the end when we were doing our savasana he was strolling around the room playing his guitar and gently singing. It was lovely.

No bridges tonight but I did Bridge during the day.

Re: The great yoga adventure

@soul - I love that bridge! That's seriously the best bridge ever. I noticed you mentioned doing crow yesterday. Crow is the first yoga position I ever tried when someone showed me it. I then practiced that one position until I could balance for ages in it, and then went to eight-angled pose (there's another fun one if you want to look it up), mostly because I thought they were fun tricks. These two are what made me consider starting yoga because I wanted to learn more of them. Life turned which is why I have ended up in the class I'm in now, but eventually I want to be able to do more of them 🙂 Very cool that you feel ypu might be getting fitter. I'm not surprised, with the amount of effort you're putting in to it!

I was a bridge again tonight and again my bridge turned into plow. I tried to work out exactly how/why bridge = fold backwards for me @Phoenix_Rising. I have no idea but maybe it's because I hold my hips up in bridge which makes me want to lift my feet up. I can shoulder stand now though (finally) 😉 Headstand next 🙂

Re: The great yoga adventure

Good evening everybody, I have bridged today, have you?

@soul do you get the sense that we are surrounded by yogis who need extrinsic rewards to get them yoga-ing. They seem to all mysteriously vanish when there is no prize on offer - slackers.

I am super impressed that you did a crow pose @soul. I hope you didn't face plant into the floor! I have been working on crow pose for a few weeks since I discovered it in one of the online videos. I put a pillow in front of me on the floor and it super makes me giggle every time I face plant. We have done it in class a couple of times. My teacher reassured the class that we wouldn't face plant because you will reflexively stop yourself from doing so...most of the time.

My world is still super stormy so I am still bridging underwater. Yoga-ing definitely helps. This is the bridge that I was today:

I wonder who else has been bridging today?

@TheVorticon @Shaz51 @Sans911 @Ant7 @Adge @CheerBear @Former-Member @Anony18 @Former-Member @Former-Member @Former-Member @Former-Member @Former-Member @frog

Re: The great yoga adventure

Ooooh I'm super excited to see you here @Former-Member. Have you been a bridge today. If not, you can do it now. It's ok, no one in the helpcentre will notice.

@CheerBear I am just making a mental note to never ever ever ask a care bear to build a bridge for me. A bridge that folds back on itself? So...basically this is what you look like as a bridge.
