The great yoga adventure

The great yoga adventure

Hi all,

So...somehow I seem to have made myself a deal with @CheerBear that we are both going to venture into the super scary world of yoga next Monday. I'm SCARED!!!! I've been trying to psych myself up to go to a class for about a year and now thanks to a pesky little care bear, it seems like it is going to happen next Monday.

I have my mat and my outfit (and thanks to @Former-Member and @Former-Member I know to wear underpants under yoga pants ). Now I just need to find some courage. Hmmm...courage...I'm sure I have some here SOMEWHERE in my shell...

Only six sleeps away. This sounds way too close. Yep, this little turtle is going to need to do some serious psyching up before next Monday!!! All encouragement is warmly welcome.

Look on the bright side @Former-Member - if the classes don't increase in size, they might get cancelled altogether. Glad that you are benefiting from the practice. I should be at class now. Really wished that I had braved the weather.

@soul I asked the teacher that, and she said she's sure no classes will be cancelled as she knows she's new. Other times are much busier, I just don't go in peak hour (e.g. early morning).

Re: The great yoga adventure

Good evening everybody. I have been a happy baby mountain today. I missed yesterday, but I'm back on track today.

@soul That's disappointing that there was a storm. Did you do any yoga-ing at home?

@Former-Member I'm super excited that you were a happy baby mountain yesterday. I'm jealous of your private classes. I'm saving up to have one or two private lessons. My teacher suggested that I should try some advanced classes, but I think I need some private lessons first. For whatever reason I have a freakish level of flexibility, but that's the only way in which I am "advanced." I think I need to get better at other aspects like balancing and staying connected with my breath before I venture into an advanced class.

I wonder who else has been yoga-ing today???

Hey @NikNik, we have made a mountain range in Forum Land. Make sure you don't crash into us when you fly over in your giant nutella jar.

That's an epic picture @Phoenix_Rising. I did a bit of stretching before my shower just then. I was out of sorts all day as it was raining when I woke and didn't go out walking which is something I always do. Likewise this afternoon with going to yoga. I should have just braved the storm and gone.

It just made me realise just how much exercise is good for not only the body but the mind as well.

@Former-Member - I'm glad you have a small almost private class. I avoid the early morning and night classes too as they are fuller and usually more strenuous too (at least that morning one is)

Good evening, I have been a happy baby mountain today. We only have two more days of happy baby mountaining. I am sensing that enthusiasm for the great yoga adventure is waning and I thought this would be my last pose-for-the-week challenge...but then I discovered the eagle pose and I think I'd like to be an eagle every day for a week. What do you think @soul? Should we be eagles next week?

By the way @soul, I agree that the picture of the happy mountains is pretty cool. Google never ceases to amaze me!!!!

Re: The great yoga adventure

I had the best yoga session so far tonight. It was a Candlelight Flow class and we had a new instructor. She put us through an amazing series of poses and I came away feeling like I had just had a massage. My body felt so relaxed. It's what I really needed.

We did lots of Downward Dog and Warrior poses but also some great stretches for our shoulders and back.

I'm all for the Eagle pose @Phoenix_Rising. Didn't do any tonight but lots earlier in the week.

I didn't go to yoga yesterday as there was a thunderstorm and I really missed it. Now my studio is shut for a week whilst they do some renovations 😥

I dead bugged today and Thursday but not yesterday.

What does the eagle pose entail, @Phoenix_Rising?

@Phoenix_Rising This is the best I can do!!!!!

Re: The great yoga adventure

Missing my yoga classes as the studio I go to is undergoing renovations for a week. I looked up some videos on the net. One I looked at nearly put me to sleep - too much visualisation and really slow pace.

I have a Qigong DVD I used to do so I may go back to that in the meantime.

Re: The great yoga adventure

Good afternoon everybody,

This post was supposed to happen much earlier today, but alas, life got in the way. Oh well....

@TheVorticon Yay for dead bugging on Thursday and Saturday. I was a happy baby mountain yesterday, but not on Saturday.

@Maggie The picture of all the dogs super made me giggle. Yoga instructors seem to spend a lot of time saying that it's totally ok to not be able to do a pose, so whatever you do is always good enough.

@soul I find the online classes on this website really cool: https://www.doyogawithme.com/yoga_classes You can filter it based on level of difficulty, length of class, type of yoga etc.

At Friday Feast last week @Former-Member came up with the super cool idea that we need some baby goats to motivate people to get yoga-ing. I think she has something like this in mind:

So here's the deal; each time you do the pose-for-the-week, you will win a free baby goat.

Hey @Former-Member @Former-Member @Former-Member @Former-Member @Former-Member @Former-Member @NikNik if you all do the pose for the week every day, then this time next week you guys will have forty-nine baby goats running around the office. Who wouldn't want that!!!!!

And now, the moment we've all been waiting for...the pose for this week is...eagle pose!!!

It turns out this is actually a bit more tricky than I thought (it probably would have helped if I'd actually tried it before deciding it would be fun to fill Forum Land up with eagles!!!). Anyway, I have a solution for this.

Option one is to be a grown up eagle. Here is how to be a grown up eagle: https://www.doyogawithme.com/content/eagle-pose

However, if you don't feel like this is for you, then maybe you can have a go at being a baby eagle. Here is how to be a baby eagle: https://www.doyogawithme.com/content/eagle-pose-arms-only-garudasana

Now who isn't going to want to be at least a baby eagle!!!!

I'm super hoping that all the birds that fly around Forum Land will want to be eagles; @Shaz51 @utopia @Owlunar.

Alright, so there's the challenge. Have fun being eagles. I am definitely aiming to be an eagle every day for a week. And don't forget, a free baby goat for every time you eagle!!! @CheerBear @Ant7 @soul @TheVorticon @Mazarita @Maggie @Appleblossom @LooneyToones
