The great yoga adventure

The great yoga adventure

Hi all,

So...somehow I seem to have made myself a deal with @CheerBear that we are both going to venture into the super scary world of yoga next Monday. I'm SCARED!!!! I've been trying to psych myself up to go to a class for about a year and now thanks to a pesky little care bear, it seems like it is going to happen next Monday.

I have my mat and my outfit (and thanks to @Former-Member and @Former-Member I know to wear underpants under yoga pants ). Now I just need to find some courage. Hmmm...courage...I'm sure I have some here SOMEWHERE in my shell...

Only six sleeps away. This sounds way too close. Yep, this little turtle is going to need to do some serious psyching up before next Monday!!! All encouragement is warmly welcome.

Re: The great yoga adventure

Hello Fellow Yogis, tonight we did a Yin class where we hold the poses for extended periods of time. Did a fair few downward dogs so I got my quota in today.

@Phoenix_Rising - I love how you have noticed an improvement in your violin playing wine doing yoga. My body seems to have fewer aches and pains - must be all that stretching.

I am indeed fortunate that the yoga classes are affordable and handy to where I live. The regular ,emberships work out to be $28 a week so if I go every day (and there are several classes starting from 6:00am) it works out at $4 a session. They also have special workshops on from time to time. There's a Acroyoga one this weekend - a cross between acrobatics and yoga. I think I'll pass on that one. They have a six week meditation program coming up that looks interesting.

Okay pose for next week - Happy Baby. Let's bring out that inner child. We don't giggle in class but I guess you could if you like 😆. This pose is where you lay on your back and grab your feet. There are variations. @Phoenix_Rising - I'm sure you'll be able to find a video.

Good evening everybody, I have yoga-ed today, have you? I actually yoga-ed twice. It makes me feel so super calm.

@soul Ok, happy baby pose next week. We have done that one a few times in my class.

Only two more days of downward facing dog (or three if you haven't yet done it today) and then onto happy baby pose.

Happy yoga-ing.

Re: The great yoga adventure

Friday night Candlelight yoga session and only six people there, which was very nice. We started off quite slowly with some visualisation and I felt really relaxed almost as if I could have dozed off. Then we worked our way up to several series of poses and the pace was a little exhausting. Lots of downward dog and planking and cobra poses. Heaps of twisty type routines.

At the end of the period we did these breathing exercises where we close up one nostril and breathe in with the other and then breathe out with the one we had previously closed. Then we reversed that process. Did that a few times.

Hope you have all been practising your yoga today.

A nice small group at yoga this afternoon. Some of the poses were a bit challenging. I don't think, people are meant to fold in half backwards - just my opinion.

My yoga studio were running a special deal and I have signed up for a six month unlimited deal to begin when my current one month expires. Lots more yoga to come - yippee.

Fold in half backwards @soul OUCH!!!!! Just not natural, is it possible.

No yoga from me last week, there's always another week. I do admire your great achievments and commitment, go you. Have a good day.

Re: The great yoga adventure

Good morning everybody, I continued yoga-ing over the weekend - did you?

Happy yoga day @CheerBear. I super hope you are able to get to your class today.

@soul That sounds like a super awesome deal for the next six months! I super love how hooked you are on this yoga gig. You have waaaaaay outstripped @CheerBear and me. I just bought a 10-session pass with the goal of continuing to go once a week. I realised that if I bought their monthly unlimited pass, then if I went every day like you do, classes really would work out at around 3-4 dollars. However, I know that realistically, I won't get there more than once a week.

@Maggie I bet @soul will soon be able to fold in half backwards given how much she is yoga-ing! Even I can't do that with my weirdly flexible body. At least, I don't think I can, I've never tried! I can fold in half forwards.

So... @soul suggested Happy Baby for this week's pose. This is what it looks like: https://www.doyogawithme.com/content/happy-babydead-bug-pose Hmmm...I think I can actually hear some Forumites saying "I don't think so" before I even post this. That's ok, if this doesn't look like fun to you, maybe you could try being a mountain. I super like being a mountain. I think I will set myself a double challenge of being a Mountain AND a happy baby each day...which could possibly make me a happy baby mountain, I guess. Here's how to be a Mountain: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=stoqh4_DNr0

Have fun! @TheVorticon @Ant7 @Former-Member @Former-Member @Former-Member @Shaz51 @Faith-and-Hope

Hi @Phoenix_Rising - just want to tell you how much I appreciate you going to the effort to instruct us on the Pose of the Week. And this week we have two poses. Shouldn't be too hard to achieve the Mountain Pose. Happy Baby is a little harder.

The folding back one is called the Hero Pose. it looks easier than it is. I did manage a variation. You could probably do this one @Phoenix_Rising

Re: The great yoga adventure

@soul Oh now I see what you mean about folding backwards. Yeah, I can do that. I honestly have no idea why I am so physically flexible - it really is quite odd. I thought you meant folding backwards while standing up.

I'm quite excited about being a happy baby mountain each day this week.
