The great yoga adventure

The great yoga adventure

Hi all,

So...somehow I seem to have made myself a deal with @CheerBear that we are both going to venture into the super scary world of yoga next Monday. I'm SCARED!!!! I've been trying to psych myself up to go to a class for about a year and now thanks to a pesky little care bear, it seems like it is going to happen next Monday.

I have my mat and my outfit (and thanks to @Former-Member and @Former-Member I know to wear underpants under yoga pants ). Now I just need to find some courage. Hmmm...courage...I'm sure I have some here SOMEWHERE in my shell...

Only six sleeps away. This sounds way too close. Yep, this little turtle is going to need to do some serious psyching up before next Monday!!! All encouragement is warmly welcome.

Hi @Phoenix_Rising 💜
I forced myself to go to a yoga/pilates class this week. I usually do it at home, but I need to "get a life". 😂
So, this class was the first stepping stone.
I'm planning to go once a week and do some at home.
No warrior pose in the class this week.
Sorry that I don't join in on this thread much. I get a bit overwhelmed chatting on different threads, so I tend to only chat on a few. 😀

I hear you @Former-Member! I too find I need to stick to a few threads to avoid getting overwhelmed in Forum Land.

Hi @Phoenix_Rising ..... 🌷

I have been a warrior today ..... and currently a tree ......

Heading on a road-trip in the morning so I will fly-by Friday Feast and be buzzing around in between packing up the car.

Re: The great yoga adventure

The Friday night Candlelight yoga class was packed. I like to get there early and claim a spot. We had to squish up a bit to allow everybody to participate. And I am happy to report that the candles are indeed real. I went out the front (I tend to find a space in the middle next to a wall) to check them out. Not battery operated.

This class is a bit later and there were quite a few girls in their twenties who were very fit. I think there were three guys tonight; one of which was quietly showing off by doing head stands - not that this was instructor directed.

The class went for an hour and a half and was quite challenging but I did do some modifications. We did Warrior poses, several types including bending ones where you wave your arms about a bit. We weren't trees though. As for the peeing dog pose, it appears that this is just a variation of the table top pose where you are kneeling on all fours. I have been looking for a video too @Phoenix_Rising, but haven't been able to find it.

I rather liked the look of this sight. It has a lot of simple and clear information and instructions:-

Very happy that @Former-Member has been to a yoga class. I enjoy the variation of all the different styles. No two classes are the same. I walk there and back so incorporate that into my exercise. Most people seem to drive and there is a car park right out the front. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be much comraderie. Everyone just comes for the class and immediately leaves.

I think I'd need a few years of yoga practice before I'm at the handstand phase @Maggie

Re: The great yoga adventure

Good morning yoga adventurers!

@soul - I find the lack of interaction between people where I go really interesting too. In my now usual class, I can understand it a bit because of the target group, but reading your thoughts on it makes me think maybe it's also an across the board kind of thing. I don't mind it, as I kind of think that this adventure I am on is for me and me only, but I found it a surprise.

I found another yoga class that is run through a community centre locally at a time that doesn't clash with anything and it seems affordable too (from the quick look I had). I can't go this coming week but checking it out and possibly enrolling is on my hope-to-do list for the week ahead.

I love how busy the yoga adventure thread is, and how many people are joining in and sharing! It's super cool that we can do this together but not.

Hope you all have a nice day 🙂

Re: The great yoga adventure

I kind of thought that doing a yoga class at a studio would provide me with the social interaction that I wouldn't get if I was doing it via a video but that hasn't been the case @CheerBear. We all just seem to be individuals who slot the session into our day then resume our lives with the next activity.

Funnily enough, I get more comraderie out of this thread. Maybe a sign of the times. In any case, I do enjoy the fact that it forces me to have a routine and I also find purpose in walking there and back. I appreciate the direction and variety of the classes so this has been an investment in my physical and mental health.

You and @Phoenix_Rising gave me the push I needed and turned the idea into a reality and I have to thank you both for that.

Now the washing machine is singing that the load is done so off I go to hang out the clothes. Have a great day too. Hope that new class is a wonderful experience for you.
