Struggling to Survive

Struggling to Survive

When life has no meaning, no purpose - it is a constant struggle to confront each new day and manage to ‘function’. Detachment from reality is my best defence. Without the emotional connections I am able to survive. The smallest of distractions can send me into a spiral that leads to unwanted and harmful thoughts. Feelings become amplified to the point of physical discomfort. The world closes in and seems to trap me in a never ending dark spiral. I can’t see the way out as I am tossed and turned, battered and bruised. The wounds are internalised and the struggle continues!

So I need to be alone as that is my only certainty for being safe – safe from disappointment, safe from conflict, safe from being let down, safe from violence, safe from further hurt. But when there are few distractions and your mind has time on its own to think, the freedom of space begins to close in. When you realise that the only people in the world that actually know you exist and care about you are the ones that you are isolating yourself from then the heartache and loneliness is magnified. If I was one cube of ice in an avalanche nobody would see me – it would make no difference if I were not there – the avalanche would continue regardless. I am one tiny, insignificant part of the universe that would soon be forgotten – in the wider scheme of life – I may as well not exist!

Re: Struggling to Survive

Hey @Ant7 I logged off before I got your message

My favourite place is the beach I take Toby to (south of Hobart) but I can't say exactly where that is on here!

All the beaches along the East Coast of the state are amazing. The one place I haven't been to since I was a child and would love to go to again is Strahan on the West coast.

What about you - what are your favourite places?

Re: Struggling to Survive

@Zoe7 the east coast is Beautiful and the north coast to Strahan is so ruggered and different and I love the mountains in the centre Cradle Mountain area. The only place I didn't love was Saint Helens

Re: Struggling to Survive

The Huon Valley and areas around the South West of Hobart are amazing too @Ant7 - gorgeous river, scenery, caves and forest. If yiu haven't been there then put it in your wish list for your next trip.

Re: Struggling to Survive

@Zoe7. Am guessing you may be heading to your gp's by now. Good luck.
I didn't fall asleep til after 3.30 this morning. Mum came banging on my door just before 9am - so she could help me clean /declutter. I keep telling her I don't want any help. Then she said, "let's talk". NO MUM. I need some bloody sleep. She checks out the mess in the house (yes I'm a pig) - sees a can of bourbon and she's off. Her mouth is like spittle flying everywhere. "You drinking again. I can't believe you're drinking again. What about (my sons name). I give up. I'm so disgusted with you. And then she finally leaves.
Great start to the day.
I bet I hate myself more than even she hates me.

What is the step you need to take to get back off the drink @utopia ? Are you able to reduce it by yourself, or manage a controlled amount while you work through it with AA ?

We're all here with you, and we are staying with you .....

Sending you love and hugs ...... 💜💜💜 ..... our gorgeous utopia ....

You can't scare any of us with a pigsty house or empty bottles .... we see you ..... the rest will clean up in time once you are steady again.

Keep talking to us Hon.

Re: Struggling to Survive

Already been to my GP @utopia. It is very cold and raining here now - more sleet than rain - the mountain will be white when it clears

You have had a drink @utopia - that is a slip but that is all it needs to be. I have no doubt that you will be harder on yourself than anyone else would be. It is not the end of the world - just the beginning again of a new chapter - or in this case, the re-reading of a chapter! We all fall back into old habits or ways of thinking occasionally - now you move forward from this and remember the feeling of letting yourself down in the future and hopefully that will help you to press pause before you do it again. Don't let this argument with your mum dictate what you do from now - you have your psychiatrist and psychologist appointments this week - and that will be important for you.

There is one thing for certain that I know - I don't hate you - quite the opposite - and it shows incredible strength to even write here what you have.

Sending you a huge hug and all my love...

Zoe

Hi @Zoe7
Did email complaint to Drs this morning, didn't hear nothing which is typical I find when you put a complaint in.Its up to them if or not they take it seriously or just think it's OK to treat someone with a judgemental reception.I took myself away , don't know what to do with myself.I feel lost, disconnected from myself.Just said on another thread(trying to reply to posts),I don't know whether I need a hospital for mental health or whether I am ready to stroke. As stated I can say I'm OK and five minutes later it's like the blinds have been pulled down.I think part of this is from my trauma in life, especially when some b***** would bring up my weight out of the blue.It says on the Black Dog Institute website that social anxiety/depression is prone to people who were bullied, shy etc.I went out today and I feel like I'm on borrowed time, because of the way I feel.
