Struggling to Survive

Struggling to Survive

When life has no meaning, no purpose - it is a constant struggle to confront each new day and manage to ‘function’. Detachment from reality is my best defence. Without the emotional connections I am able to survive. The smallest of distractions can send me into a spiral that leads to unwanted and harmful thoughts. Feelings become amplified to the point of physical discomfort. The world closes in and seems to trap me in a never ending dark spiral. I can’t see the way out as I am tossed and turned, battered and bruised. The wounds are internalised and the struggle continues!

So I need to be alone as that is my only certainty for being safe – safe from disappointment, safe from conflict, safe from being let down, safe from violence, safe from further hurt. But when there are few distractions and your mind has time on its own to think, the freedom of space begins to close in. When you realise that the only people in the world that actually know you exist and care about you are the ones that you are isolating yourself from then the heartache and loneliness is magnified. If I was one cube of ice in an avalanche nobody would see me – it would make no difference if I were not there – the avalanche would continue regardless. I am one tiny, insignificant part of the universe that would soon be forgotten – in the wider scheme of life – I may as well not exist!

Oh my poor little butterfly @Zoe7

I feel for you so much. I would be feeling exactly like you in that situation with your GP.

Pls rest up, take it easy and don't push yourself

But pls eat something and keep hydrated

You can stay on my shoulder if you like

I really do care for you,

I don't know what else to say just that I am so sorry you are going through so much at the moment

I wish i could do something to help you

Re: Struggling to Survive

Morning @Maggie I made it through the night. I had some help early in the evening from NikNik and then from Faith-and-Hope and Mazarita later on. They all kept me company - and distracted - to get through the hardest parts of the night. I managed a little rest but am very tired now. I will no doubt fall asleep again on the couch this morning because my eyes are barely staying open. I am not at all looking forward to the next couple of days - I know they are going to be difficult (nights and weekends are the hardest). Just trying to take it minute by minute and hour by hour when I can manage it at the moment. Nothing more I can do!

@Zoe7 I'm a minute by minute girl myself, it is all we can do. So glad you got that support last night. It's really tough for you atm@Zoe7. Im not good with words but feelings for others by the bucket loads. Hoping you are sleeping, if not go gently. Thinking of you. Warm thoughts

Re: Struggling to Survive

You have no idea how important that support last night was @Maggie (maybe you do!)

I know I have not been able to respond to you much here but I have really appreciated your avatar 'popping up' - that means more than words sometimes. Often I am unable to take in what others write when I am feeling so low but knowing people are there does help - even if it is some time later.

I am in minute by minute mode also - trying for hour by hour but that isn't going so well I have my GP appointment in around an hour so I haven't been able to sleep today - might when I come home - depending on how I am feeling after the appointment.

I really hope there is some light in your day today @Maggie ... I'll leave this for you just in case...

@Zoe7 That is so appreciated, thank you. I hope you app. Goes well. We are all here as the week end draws near. I know how hard it is to talk @Zoe7, so you don't have to answer. Thinking of you.

Re: Struggling to Survive

I have no idea how I am going to get through tonight and the weekend. If I can make it to Monday then I have an appointment at the new practice. I knew it was going to be difficult today - so I expexted to be a little upset but I really do feel like my world has been turned upside down yet again. It is dark and windy here and that is adding so much more to my anxiety. I am sorry I can't respond to anyone - I am barely able to get any words out for myself. I don't even want any distractions - I just want to go to sleep. This is all too much and I am too tired to deal with it.

Hi @Zoe7

You have had an incredibly tough week. There are many people that care for you and value you as a community member. It's ok that you don't feel like you can respond to other posts, please try and be gentle with yourself and offer yourself some of that kindess which you show us here often

The forums are here for you. Can you find somewhere warm and cozy to set yourself up? I'm imagaining you wrapped up in a blanket with Toby and cat close by.

Step by step, breaking things down to managebale sizes when you can.

Sending you a butterfy house to stay in over the weekend.

Take care
