Struggling to Survive

Struggling to Survive

When life has no meaning, no purpose - it is a constant struggle to confront each new day and manage to ‘function’. Detachment from reality is my best defence. Without the emotional connections I am able to survive. The smallest of distractions can send me into a spiral that leads to unwanted and harmful thoughts. Feelings become amplified to the point of physical discomfort. The world closes in and seems to trap me in a never ending dark spiral. I can’t see the way out as I am tossed and turned, battered and bruised. The wounds are internalised and the struggle continues!

So I need to be alone as that is my only certainty for being safe – safe from disappointment, safe from conflict, safe from being let down, safe from violence, safe from further hurt. But when there are few distractions and your mind has time on its own to think, the freedom of space begins to close in. When you realise that the only people in the world that actually know you exist and care about you are the ones that you are isolating yourself from then the heartache and loneliness is magnified. If I was one cube of ice in an avalanche nobody would see me – it would make no difference if I were not there – the avalanche would continue regardless. I am one tiny, insignificant part of the universe that would soon be forgotten – in the wider scheme of life – I may as well not exist!

Re: Struggling to Survive

If everyone can communicate about it all respectfully in hindsight, then we can help each other move forward ..... if done gently and received gently, I think the venting helps.

It’s “I statements” that seem to best communicate how everyone is feeling ......

Re: Struggling to Survive

Ouch @Zoe7. I'm not fully aware of all that goes on here, too much for me to keep up with. But I've always found you lovely.
Just as an FYI to people reading this.... if I ever say something stupid or hurtful (as I am prone to do) - call me on it. Chances are I'm just an idiot and didn't mean any offence and I'd sooner take it back than cause harm.
I guess I feel that I'm not liked cause I don't fit into the 'groups' on here. And the vast majority of my painful posts are never acknowledged or seen. I once deliberately wrote something 'banned' just to get a response I was so desperate to be heard!!

I'm so sorry that happened, @Zoe7. That sort of thing is a big part of why I don't feel safe here.

@Former-Member one of the things I have seen as this forum has grown is that a lot of members' posts can be 'missed'. If, like myself, you are not subscribed to a thread or are not tagged in a post then I generally don't 'see' and therefore can't respond to a post. I do tend to rely more on emails to respond as I only receive emails when I am tagged. Please feel free to tag me @Former-Member - I will then 'see' your post and respond (not always straight away but as soon as I get emails )

@Former-Member From what I have read when you post I find you very helpful to other members. I am sorry you don’t feel liked or don’t fit into some groups. But just letting you know that I like you 😀

Re: Struggling to Survive

We can agree to disagree, but lessons have still been learned I think ...... nobody comes out of it comfortably if there is a pay-back agenda in it somewhere.

If bygones can be bygones, and we all remember what it is like when things turn that uncomfortable, hopefully everyone will get on board to just think twice about how best to communicate what they are feeling, gently and respectfully.

Many of us are parents, teachers, nurses ..... we need to be able to lead by example what we teach kids and young people, and I think most of us do ..... but none of us is perfect at it either.

If we can align our intent to be a caring community and keep working towards that goal, we can achieve it. I have seen people arrive here with an aggitating or incitive manner, and gradually moderate until they fit this community profile of caring and sharing ..... and there is work to be done again now, but we can do it ......

Just all need to be rowing in the same direction.

Re: Struggling to Survive

For me personally when I have these 'difficult conversations'. I find when it's all resolved in the end and we have heard each other out.
I find I often end up feeling closer to the person involved. I don't always end up 'liking' them more, but I feel a kind of bond with them. We've shared something difficult and been vulnerable and come out the end intact.
So maybe when stuff gets resolved it will be a good thing in the end?
