Caring for a wife with Borderline Personality Disorder- Sequel to Diary of wife’s hospital stay - holding it together for our family.

This discussion is a follow on from my previous thread Diary of wife’s hospital stay - holding it together for our family, a thread I started when my wife was admitted to hospital for the third time in 6 months and when everything around me seemed to be falling apart. It was a space where I could vent and express my emotions and helped me to process a particularly difficult time not only in my own life but for our family and helped me to hold myself together in order to support my family. For that I am most grateful.

Those of you who were following our journey will know that on my darlings return home I have been encouraged by my councillor to implement some loving boundaries, (lovingly implemented guidelines, not as rules to be enforced), and some self-care for myself.

Now that my darling is home the purpose of this new thread is to document our journey of healing and implementing new boundaries and commitment to self-care, not only so that I can have a visual plan for myself (a bit of self-accountability to follow through with plans in place) but in the hope that it may help others processing similar trials. It will also be an opportunity to track our progress over time.

Hey Bro

Feeling is mutual, I often don't know what to say to you @Determined esp as we don't have kids. I don't have to deal with the hot and cold or other emotional outbursts of BPD, Mr Darcy's PD is NOS. @soul has far more expertise.

But hey, on the other hand we both know how hard it is to live with serious MI, have shared values and the same wicked sense of humour... and sometimes an ear is all that is needed ... that I can offer.

Darcy

Morning all, just a quick update, not that there is much to update. We have a pdoc appointment this afternoon. Darling 'thinks' she wants to go back to hospital for more ect.

I am trying to convincd her to actually try some of the techniques she has been taught first. At the moment while unwell she is safe so I am happy for her to remain at home. For now.

Also she is not eating so I have been pestering her about regular food intake and balanced exercise. Unfortunately at the moment she just wants to just lay in bed and wellness will just magically happen. Thats where the ect comes in, she sees it as 'the easg option'

Have to wait and see how this afternoon goes.

Hi @Determined - not sure if easy option and serious mental illness can be used in the same sentence. Glad though that currently, things are so that you can pursue your own interests to some extent.

Hope the appt this afternoon goes well.

Well we have had some good news today.

Appointment with the pdoc this afternoon, my darling decided she didn't want to go back to hospital yet so will be reviewed in a week with a med adjustment in the meantime. She is also trying some alternate therapy that I am confident while wont be a cure should provide some relief. The fact that she is willing to try this is a big improvement.

She has also promised to work with me on some of the strategies she is supposed to be using but has found too hard . Still a lot of work to do but I am feeling more positive about the outcome.

Yay! Sounds promising @Determined What's the alternate therapy if you don't mind me asking? This is a big win. Hoping more progress is ahead.
