Caring for a wife with Borderline Personality Disorder- Sequel to Diary of wife’s hospital stay - holding it together for our family.

This discussion is a follow on from my previous thread Diary of wife’s hospital stay - holding it together for our family, a thread I started when my wife was admitted to hospital for the third time in 6 months and when everything around me seemed to be falling apart. It was a space where I could vent and express my emotions and helped me to process a particularly difficult time not only in my own life but for our family and helped me to hold myself together in order to support my family. For that I am most grateful.

Those of you who were following our journey will know that on my darlings return home I have been encouraged by my councillor to implement some loving boundaries, (lovingly implemented guidelines, not as rules to be enforced), and some self-care for myself.

Now that my darling is home the purpose of this new thread is to document our journey of healing and implementing new boundaries and commitment to self-care, not only so that I can have a visual plan for myself (a bit of self-accountability to follow through with plans in place) but in the hope that it may help others processing similar trials. It will also be an opportunity to track our progress over time.

I am well and truly exhausted @soul but buzzing on a combination of adrenalin and caffeine. Lost count of how may coffes I had at the hospital, was all subconscious and I wasnt really thinking about it.

I think the boys are rattled just composed themselves better than I expected. Will have to gove the teachers a heads up and let them know if there are any problems I expect a phone call. Dont want a repeat of last time 😕

S2 has been watching mummy going down hill and worried that she would have to go away again, so more has prepared himself than seeing our situation as normal.

I am just relieved that my darling is safe. It is a bit confronting for her but she is in a 'fish bowl' at the moment where she can be watched by the nursing staff so not a lot of privacy but that is based on her admission of actions last night while I was sleeping.

Thank you for your thoughts this afternoon when I was beside myself with anxiety. And @Faith-and-Hope & everyone. It is a relief to be able to talk and express my emotions without having to explain or go into detail .

I too had hoped we had turned a corner soul, and the boys and my darling but things have gotten on top of her. I am working hard to get some jobs out of the way before she comes home and hoping that may make a small difference at least.

This tunnel that you are travelling through is indeed a long one @Determined. You must be wondering if it's ever going to end and what will be waiting. Glad I could be there this afternoon to offer some support however little.

At least now that your Darling is in a safe environment you can divert some of your attention to other things. Don't beat yourself up over what has happened. The right course of action was taken.

Definitely let the school know. Best to pre empt any potential problems. Hope it goes smoothly for you.

Hi all,

Things are looking a little brighter today. Have been talking to my darling this afternoon and she has come a long way. Still a long way to go though. Pdoc going to visit tomorrow for a review.

Children are holding together well also. S2 had a monent when we got home from youth group tonight to an empty house but we were able to work through it. Must admit that I was procrastinating coming home myself, managed so far to keep it together for the children.

We are planing to go for a visit after lunch tomorrow. Feeling bad for not being able to visit as often as before but just not possible. Will have to see how we are going if we visit on Sunday or not. No point driving tired and my darling accepts that.

Glad things have settled down somewhat and that you and the kids are holding it together. I think one trip over the weekend is a good idea. You're probably operating on adrenaline right now nad that's going to run out and wham - hit you with fatigue.

How was work today? Were you able to focus @Determined?

@Former-Member @soul @Shaz51 @Faith-and-Hope

Got a much better sleep last night. Don't actually remember when I went to bed but I would have had 8 or 9 hours proper sleep. Bub slept through also which is great.

I would like to just visit today @soul and skip tomorrow but I am feeling really bad leaving her down there all alone and lonley. She was watching kiddy shows on tv yesterday because she was missing the boys.

We are not rushing down today but will go after lunch. I need to be careful and take it easy if going to get through this bout. I'm still recovering from all the stress and traveling with her last visit 😕 it is hard but may do her good to miss us for a while also.
