Seeing doctors when you don't leave the flat?

Seeing doctors when you don't leave the flat?

I hardly leave my flat due to bipolar depression, social anxiety and crohn's disease, all of which I've been dealing with for decades. Over time it's been getting harder and harder for me to get out to even see doctors. I haven't seen my psych doctor for over 6 months because of this and my meds are running out. No matter how much I tell myself I 'have to' go to the doctors, days, weeks and months go by and I just don't get myself to do it. Does anyone have any suggestions about what to do in this situation? I was thinking of calling one of those 24 hour mobile doctor companies. Not ideal but better than no doctor I guess? Interested to hear if there are any other suggestions.

Re: Seeing doctors when you don't leave the flat?

Dear forum friends,

Thanks for the @ mentions today and yesterday. Been dealing with some out of control emotions this weekend, which have kept me from writing until now. I have been reading posts, just couldn't find the focus or will to reply. Also feeling generally toxic and not of use to anyone in this sick state. Tried to shake off the extreme angst with a long walk on the beach. It was beautiful out there but I could barely see what was around me, possessed all the way by relentless negative thoughts and feelings, and in tears part of the way. Went to bed after that to try to 'reboot'. This often works but today I was still messed up afterwards to the point of retching from the intensity of emotions. Having come off my anti-depressant medication about 4 weeks ago is taking a toll. But I'll have to weather it for at least two more weeks before I see my new psychiatrist again. Thankfully I at least have that in place now. Poor Max, who I live with. I'm trying to spare him from my toxicity but not doing a good job of it. He's had a rough time with me, as he always does when I'm in a bad state. I'm lucky he sticks around. Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day for both of us. May tomorrow bring something good for you who are reading this too.

Hi Mazarita- just read your post and sounds like a tough weekend but glad you are hanging in there. Coming off meds can be rough. I hope you can get some sleep and tomorrow really is a better day for you 🙂

Hi @Mazarita

You show awareness of your own state and protectiveness for those around you. That has to be good. Its tough when feelings force their way through the veils of medication.

Go gently even when the feelings are not.

You know @Jacques ive been thinking of you writing how horrified your Grandparents would be that you 'havent made anything of yourself......'

I guess this is something that i struggle with and maybe others.

Can you think of positive things in your life, something that maybe other people will not know but you do?

Like your Mum and you? I seem to remember a message that @Chris sent you, that your Mum may find great happiness in you being you.....am i right,?

(It was @Chris, wasnt it?)

Probably no one i can think of is going to be remembered as a good say...whatever your job is.... or anything in 100 years time.

My Grandparents in America, in the 30s and 40s, would represent people who others wouldn't. They both began the first legal aid like organization for men on death row. Of course, theres nothing written about them, but mum has told me some good cases they won.....somewhere, i have a couple of letters a couple of men in jail wrote them. Their work as lawyers was fantastic.

Theres nothing written about them and their legal achievements. They were terrible parents and Grandparents.

But i read of amazing people on this site, fighting to be better people ....better parents.....better role models.

Yeah, who's gonna remember me?

If i sit still and take a deep breathe.......iv'e broken a years old line of crazy jewish women on my mother's side, by staying home and focusing on my children when young. That they both ....probably dont want to be anything like me but they listen to me.

Its not much.....they are both adults and dont hear from them so much.....but......when im feeling particularly vulnerable and out of sorts, i can reflect on this.

Maybe one thing that you can reflect on is that your writing on this site is read and read and read. That i can feel that not just me but others like reading them very much. I like your sensetivity and direct concern that you have for others and a couple of days ago, when @Hiddenite and you rediscovered each other, i smiled for a long time. It was great. Im smiling now.

hi @Mazarita

Like like very much what @sanfran and in particular @Appleblossom writes.

This is what it's all about @Mazarita, that your honesty that your having a difficult time ....we will be here for you while your fragile.

I write to you of my happiness that you left your home to cry on the beach! I live not one minute walk away from the beach but i find that so difficult!

Not long to go till you see your Psychiatrist.....such a difficult difficult time for you.

Please write, we are here for you.

I have thought and thought a lot on your suggestion to start a new thread on journalling, im almost there and it is a great idea.

Re: Seeing doctors when you don't leave the flat?

Thanks @Appleblossom. Yes, I do feel protective of Max and I'm especially aware of hurts and damage I might be doing to him. He is a very sensitive person with some special issues of his own. He's functional in an almost clockwork way and holds down a job but he experiences regular mental states that most people could only describe as hallucinations. He has never been diagnosed because, being mostly functional, he hasn't needed it. In any case he wouldn't admit such things to a doctor. But I do get worried about him at times. The visions describe a hostile headspace (in an otherwise calm man). Also, he believes in them (as a kind of parallel reality to the one we inhabit normally). There was also an instance decades ago when he walked into traffic with his eyes closed because he thought his spirit guides would protect him (ended up in hospital with a badly broken leg). He didn't tell doctors or anyone what was going on in his mind at the time. By the way, as I've said before, to protect anonymity, Max is not his real name. We are a kooky pair.

What a bunch of night owls we are this Sunday night into Monday morning!

Hi to you too @PeppiPatty. Thanks for your sweet message. I'm only about a minute from the beach too. It's embarrassing how hard it can be to get there. If my funny, crying presence out there today in any way gives you inspiration to get out on your beach too, that would be awesome. I think it was @Appleblossom who made the suggestion about starting a new thread for journal writing. And I agree! Yes, I'm sure it will be good. 🙂
