Need advice re daughter's MI

Need advice re daughter's MI

Hi all,

As some already know we have a real crisis situation with our daughter, 21 yrs old, who has been diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder and bi-polar. Currently she is self medicating with drugs. She has landed herself in hot water with the taxation department over unpaid taxes that is accruing interest daily. I advise to ring them and explain her MI issues and ask for help with a repayment plan otherwise she could end up in court and jail. The debt is getting so huge she won't won't be able to ever pay it.

Her reaction to my advice and help is to "go away". She is not reacting normally. I am at my wits end and this is taking a huge toll on my physical health. I don't know what I can do. Can someone offer advice please of what is best to do in this situation?

Hi @Determined

Thanks for checking up on me 😊 Unfortunately I have had a despairing past week and have been feeling depressed myself. The strain of my daughter's MI issues and the poor choices she makes in dealing with it....is becoming quite serious. Also the dream house we were promised in writing the developer has reneged on, so we are having to follow that up with a solicitor which is extremely stressful. Together with the worry over my husband's health is now taking its toll presently.

I am returning to do some volunteer work Tomorrow and Thursday even though I don't presently feel up to it, I am hoping this will help me. Together with looking for the good in each day, which admittedly is very hard given the circumstances, but has helped picked me up in the past.

If all else fails I will seek further help. Everyone on this forum over the past week have been wonderfully supportive. It's hopeful to know we aren't alone and good people are out there. How is all going for you and your wife? 🤗

That all sounds extremely stressful @Former-Member hopefully the volunteer work will be enough of a distraction to take some relieve some stress even if only for a short while. I realy trust things turn around for your family soon.

Things are steady for my wife and I, we still have a lot to work through but managing ok. I did much better than expected with my uni results for the semester so that has given me a much needed boost.

I agree, everyone here on the forums are a huge support. I really dont know how I would have managed the last 6 months without my new forum friends here. I am most grateful.

Trust the new house works out for you also,

Re: Need advice re daughter's MI

Thank you @Determined Congratulations on your uni results! A wonderful result especially given the stress you have been under. Also good news that things are going steady for you and your wife. I pray this continues for you both. It allows you both a bit of a breather to be able to relax and recharge, preparing for the next chapter in both your journeys. It will lead to a better place for you my friend in the end - I know it. Never doubt it.

I treasure that normality when I get the rare chance to embrace it. My gratitude for a life like that will be overflowing when I reach that goal - even if it be only temporary.

I hope our new home venture works out too. It was a dream we have both worked hard for that was unjustly snatched (foreign investors). I feel sorry for our younger generation having to compete with that as the Australian dream will become unreachable for them. It's wrong. We should know sometime next week whether we have sufficient legal recourse to go ahead with the sale again.

For now I will try to concentrate on any good that will lift this heavy heart xx
