I am terribly sorry to hear that you have both had such negative experiences with mental health professionals and your feedback about those experiences deserve to be heard so that improvements can be made. I can assure you that criteria to enter into the profession for the younger generation of students has become much stricter.
@mufasa Er...would now be a good time to mention that I graduated from a psychology degree with Class 1 honours in 2015? I am well aware of the criteria that the "younger generation" of psychology students face to enter the profession. My current psychologist who is causing so much grief has only been practicing for about seven years. There is a fundamental problem with the way psychologists are educated. The fact that they undertake no placements whatsoever at the undergraduate level is absurd, as is the over-emphasis on inferential statistics. No client cares whether their psychologist understands the difference between an ANOVA and a multiple regression. Clients want therapists who are trained in counselling skills, trauma informed care, and, well, quite frankly, basic empathy! I am angry and hurting and I know this conversation is not helpful for me...but neither is staying silent about this horribly messed up system! ![]()

Hello Outlander, @outlander
I’ve found another post, that you had tagged me to but I must of missed it, sorry. I can only imagine that your Doctor was extremely worried about your well-being, and imagined, as I would, that your Mother would be concerned. I don't understand your Mother and think she must have a very negative brain process malfunction. Yet I did hear some positivity in your post, don’t get me wrong I heard too much negativity as well; but they do want you to write a list of your concerns, and that’s a start, it’s your chance to peep, to say ‘this is wrong, I will not tolerate it anymore’. To be able to do so on your own and have the chance to think about it and put it on paper, I think is a good thing. It was probably quite a shock for your family to find out how bad you’re really feeling, perhaps they need a little time for it to sink in.
The horse you’ve been offered to train and ride, with the option of becoming your very own, is very positive 🙂 That gives you something really exciting to look forward to tomorrow 🙂 What courses are you taking? Doing 2 at once will certainly keep you busy! Try not to over-extend yourself though, you need time with your new horse 🙂
I’m a little worried that you haven’t been on today. A little worried that you didn’t answer the Mental Health teams calls, and that things may have blown up a little more. But I trust in your judgement and believe that you will be doing the best that you can in this tumultuous situation.
Have you ever heard of ‘Doctor Who’ and the Tardis? (it’s bigger on the inside) – I’m sending you a Tardis full of love ❤️
Keep striving, I believe you’re at a pivotal point in your life. Things may not feel very good right now, but they might just be getting better!

Hi Shaz51 and I hope outlander is ok.
This is my last post I have decided after today with the Moderator to leave due to my stress level at the moment, and I don't need another thing in life to defend my strong beliefs and facts.
I would like to thank Phoenix Rising, who when I was on my walk this afternoon and read Mufasa s' flawed posts about how they are now training new students better, made me feel better with his opinion that was my thoughts exactly, and I'm one who started studying psychology and social work when I was young.I have had people say on here how they live in fear of police brutality because they won't understand their behaviour due to their mental illness. At the end of the day it comes down to the personal attributes and experiences of professionals. If I was "defamatory"today to the Same team regardless of guidelines you were discriminatory of me in my shared experiences.
Good luck everyone and I hope outlander has a good outcome.
