Re: when is it time for hospital
@outlander, I'm catching up on old posts - but you don't need to let the whole flashback play the whole way through. I was taught two things to help, 1. Grounding techniques - the good ol' what can I see, hear, feel, etc etc. Brings you out of your mind and into the present. Really really good for stopping them in their tracks. But you've got to be fully immersed in your present for it to work. Concentrate on each of your senses, the blue of the sky, the freshness of the breeze etc. 2. Another thing you can do, but you might need some help for this one, is re-writing the ending of your dreams/flashbacks. I found I would have the same few scenes again and again. So I wrote down a 'better' ending for each of those scenes and practiced them in my mind a lot. When a flashback happened, I could override the story it played out and finish with a better ending. I found these really helpful for stopping them.

Re: when is it time for hospital
Goodmorning @Former-Member Im ok i think. I just finished the final two assignments of my courses. I finished them both now just have to wait for the results. Im trying my hand at painting now while the house is still quiet. Then work this afternoon. Thank you for last night. Its always so comforting ❤❤
Omg i forgot my cards! I made grounding and flashback halting cards up with the help of @CheerBear and i totally forgot them @Former-Member the first method you said ive tried but my brain always tunes into thr flashback rather than the outside world. The second one... ive never heard of at all. That is something i could try too

Re: when is it time for hospital
They take practice @outlander, it's not an immediate fix. You have to spend time whilst things are okay, doing the two above methods. Unfortunately nothing in mental health seems to be an immediate fix. They all take work and time. So don't stress too much if they don't work straight away. CheerBear's cards look really helpful. I use the last technique - I have flash backs from my suicide attempt and the littlest things will set me off - just having a shower and seeing the scars is enough. My psych taught me to 'finish the story' that my brain was telling me, that I was now safe and well. I would practice it on the bus going to uni and work. Yay for finishing your course! What are your plans now?

Re: when is it time for hospital
I have flashbacks from everything @Former-Member all my traumas my attempts and bullying and everything else thats happened to me. I really hate it and they always over power me. Theres not one that ive won against yet even though i try.
So the ending... is the point to write out the whole story or just how they end? And then when they happen imagine the ending to be a better one or changed. ...
Hmm i might do another one. The midwifery one looks interesting so might do that one. I just finished the nursing one and the common colds one.
How are you going? And with your studies ?

Re: when is it time for hospital
@outlander, that sucks. It must be hard to deal with so many. I was told to cut in halfway through and re-write the story with a different ending. I am trying to think about giving an example here that won't violate guidelines. Ummm, say you were on the swings and fell off and broke your arm. And your memory/flashback was of you swinging happily then falling, falling, falling and hurting your arm. You would practice imagining swinging, then falling and perhaps turning into a bird and flying away, or falling into a pool of jelly. Something to circumvent the nasty bits. If that makes sense? It doesn't have to be realistic or congruent with the original story. I had heaps of help from my psych to do this, but maybe you can do it on your own? Or bring it up with your psych? I just feel for you, flashbacks are pure hell, they are really really sucky. I wish I could stop them for you.

Re: when is it time for hospital
Midwifery would be sooo much fun. And nursing. I've thought about doing nursing a lot. But I just don't have the personality for it. Have you thought about doing TAFE? I could totally see you as a vet nurse or a regular nurse. The former is hard to get into, but it's supposed to be a really fun job if you can get in. My studies are CRAP! I'm falling to pieces. I am sooooo sooooo soooo far behind. I don't know what to do.
