Grief & loss - may be triggering

Grief & loss - may be triggering

@ lapses
Early last year 2016 my Dad died after a long painful illness (cancer), which he had been fighting for 6 years.

He survived that long only because of continuous treatments, otherwise he would have been gone in 6 months (they said).

My relationship with him had been somewhat distant at times - due my living in a different state from my entire family for the past 22 years.

Also due to my tumultuous upbringing & family background - which is why I could not stay in the city where I grew up, & chose to live here (3000 kilometres away) instead.

Also wanting to start anew 22 years ago, with needs for greater independence.

Yet those hopes to start a family of my own have never been realized. My marriage ended abruptly, & took my cherished plans & hopes for the future with it.

Then I was confronted with the memories of my SA only 3 months after the end of my marriage - which again turned my life upside-down. My gender identity was shaken, & I no longer felt secure with the sense of identity that I once had.

Followed by a severe health emergency - with 2 emergency bowel surgeries, a stoma & bag for 6 months.

Then a 3rd major bowel surgery to try to put things back together. I almost died twice in hospital they told me.

My siblings & I had found Dad to be emotionally distant & scary right into our adult lives - yet in the last few years we found him to be a kind, intelligent & very caring man. So it was so much harder to lose him.

Due to the stress of having to find a new job, having complex PTSD, & not coping well with the conditions of this occupation (carer) - I've been unable to effectively come to terms with my grief & loss.

It seems that my grief has been largely on hold for the past 14 months since Dad died. I don't feel in touch with it, despite my best efforts to.

I see a psychologist, yet we've been unable to do grief work, or help me to come to terms with the loss of my Dad.

I've remembered very little about him in the past year, which makes it harder - as I have so few memories to draw upon.

Re: Grief & loss - may be triggering

Hi again @Adge so sorry re your post. Im looking at similar things when remaining parent dies. Sounds like something most likely very unhelpful/ useless/ planned to deny me any even equal share with 2 siblings who have millions on millions and another one owns a house and has a job for life. Im renting have next to no super no savings etc and years ago was talk of giving me ok the more needy more than equal share. Think the rest of them have been busy behind scenes and I might end up getting less than them now as they are ‘deserving’ although dont need it and I am ‘undeserving’so sounds like all sorts of caveats may be in store for me ie meaning I wont get a cent. Anyway. Was trying to compare with your situation and hi 👋 @Former-Member 😀

Feeling for all of you ..... it’s hard.

My Dad has made provision for my bother and sister cos they are in greater need than me ..... and while I can only take my sister in small doses, there isn’t the sort of in-fighting you guys are contending with .....

Hearing you.

Thanks @Former-Member@TAB@TAB

Yes similar disputes & family conflicts, unfortunately.

I'm having a very rough W/E, especially all of today.

Very badly (severely) dissociated.

I'm already (also) Dyslexic - so with both at once, I can often barely express the words, type or hand-write without great effort (even though a good touch-typist)...

The words just won't come out (& the letters get jumbled up).

It took me over 10 minutes, just to type this out...

Re: Grief & loss - may be triggering

Thanks @Faith-and-Hope, @Adge, @TAB - it helps to know we're understood / not alone in the 'family dynamic' crapola... Its only money. Or is it.

Adge, i'm really worried about you given what you said earlier. It would be good if you weren't slone at these times. Are you any better tonight? Please check in soon ❤🐦

Re: Grief & loss - may be triggering

I would probably say its not just about money, it’s about power, control, entitlement etc @Former-Member Anyway I’d rather not think about it at the moment. If people are deciding my future without my knowledge and they are, well there’s not much I can do about it except choose not to worry about it by blocking it out and just trying to get on with life. A couple things indirectly related happened today that are making me feel really bad just now. Think that’s what happens when ‘blinkers’ are removed. Just got to forget it and keep moving . Its just survival sometimes

Re: Grief & loss - may be triggering

I understand @TAB, its also betrayal & it hurts. I get that. I have to keep reminding myself that this type of wicked behaviour toward me, from my sister in particular - its more about her than me, in fact - i'd say its got very little to do with me. I reckon greed & grief makes people even more !mad' than usual.

I'm over it ... well, try to be, lol

Re: Grief & loss - may be triggering

True @Former-Member but its the other side as well like what did I do with my life that I need to rely on an inheritance ..
Anyway, as I said I am better off not thinking about it
