Grief & loss - may be triggering

Grief & loss - may be triggering

@ lapses
Early last year 2016 my Dad died after a long painful illness (cancer), which he had been fighting for 6 years.

He survived that long only because of continuous treatments, otherwise he would have been gone in 6 months (they said).

My relationship with him had been somewhat distant at times - due my living in a different state from my entire family for the past 22 years.

Also due to my tumultuous upbringing & family background - which is why I could not stay in the city where I grew up, & chose to live here (3000 kilometres away) instead.

Also wanting to start anew 22 years ago, with needs for greater independence.

Yet those hopes to start a family of my own have never been realized. My marriage ended abruptly, & took my cherished plans & hopes for the future with it.

Then I was confronted with the memories of my SA only 3 months after the end of my marriage - which again turned my life upside-down. My gender identity was shaken, & I no longer felt secure with the sense of identity that I once had.

Followed by a severe health emergency - with 2 emergency bowel surgeries, a stoma & bag for 6 months.

Then a 3rd major bowel surgery to try to put things back together. I almost died twice in hospital they told me.

My siblings & I had found Dad to be emotionally distant & scary right into our adult lives - yet in the last few years we found him to be a kind, intelligent & very caring man. So it was so much harder to lose him.

Due to the stress of having to find a new job, having complex PTSD, & not coping well with the conditions of this occupation (carer) - I've been unable to effectively come to terms with my grief & loss.

It seems that my grief has been largely on hold for the past 14 months since Dad died. I don't feel in touch with it, despite my best efforts to.

I see a psychologist, yet we've been unable to do grief work, or help me to come to terms with the loss of my Dad.

I've remembered very little about him in the past year, which makes it harder - as I have so few memories to draw upon.

@Owlunar Auto update of time that does sound fancy.

The only problem is when it has the wrong time zone - we're 2 hours behind (when it's not daylight savings) here in the west.

No NBN here as far as I know, at least I haven't heard anything.

I'm happy with the normal cable network (telephone lines).

It's the computer software that seems to be the main problem - & the fact that older computers cannot keep up with all the changing requirements.

I had my last grief study (behavioral activation) session today. It was motivational, although I never got to talk about my grief or feelings (loss) really.

I'm on my own now (in a sense).

Re: Grief & loss - may be triggering

I'm sorry you are feeling sick again @Adge - it seems as if you are really run-down and everything is working against you atm

The Grief Study seems to have been a non-event for you - yes - you got to listen and learn but you really need to talk about your experience - let's hope this goes better wswith your therapist

And as @Former-Member said - you have us - you are not alone

Yes that's exactly right @Former-Member Those germs just like me way too much...

The unhygienic people I work with want to "share the love" (germs) way too much too...

@OwlunarNo I did not have the opportunity to share my grief feelings during the grief study. Which was a big disappointment, because that is a most pressing need.

It did give me some sense of "empowerment" & motivation though. An added sense of purpose, & a willingness to "try new things" to not feel so stuck (you might say).

Re: Grief & loss - may be triggering

I've been unable to get onto the site for hours - because my web browsers keep blocking me. Saying that this connection is not secure.

I'm worse with the Bronchitis since returning to work today. I need to be better for my leave in 2 days time. Not happening.

Lifeline said that I don't sound in any well state to go to work tomorrow.

Yet I went back to work today out of guilt & desperation.

I don't know how I can take the rest of the week off work sick - when I'm supposed to be going on leave after this Friday.

Yet I don't see how I can continue to work for the rest of the week either.

I saw GP Dr this afternoon & he didn't offer me a medical certificate - although he put me on cortisone tablets for allergy to mould.

As well as the antibiotics that I'm already taking.

I haven't phoned a crisis line in ages - but I did tonight. Because I just had to talk to someone.

Being so ill for so long has worn me down. Work treated me atrociously - changing my shift client & hours 3 times this morning (before I even left for work).

Despite the fact that I told them that I'm still ill - then I got worse again during the day & almost collapsed this afternoon.

So sorry to hear of your ill health

the organisation you work for are consistently horrible..don't mean to upset you..I just continue to be appalled by their management or rather lack of

enough said

bronchitis needs to be taken seriously and requires the person to rest to get better..further complications can happen

you have not been well for a while..grief is also wearing you down

your dr should have insisted on bed rest and given you a certificate which if need be can carry into your annual leave..this means that days under a certificate are sick leave not annual leave..the annual leave should then be credited back to you

take measures to look after you Adge

annual leave nearly happening

Re: Grief & loss - may be triggering

This sounds so rough @Adge and as @Former-Member says bronchitis is not something one can brush off lightly - it can be really draining and exhausting

Yet I seem to remember it's not something we can stay in bed with either because it's one thing that we need to keep moving around with - I had it years ago - I even missed my grandmother's funeral because I was so ill - but yes - I do remember dragging myself around the house feeling miserable for days

What do you mean when your clients "share the love"? - Do they try and hug you - that's really not on because it's invading your personal space. I can see you would be a very kind person who appreciates how other people feel and would not be able to put up barriers easily - but still - you can say - "Whoops careful - I have bronchitis right now"

Not fun at all - and yes - you are run down - and having shift changes only hours before is unsettling.

I am on the other end of shift changes - as the client - it is unsettling but it happens - how to deal with it though - it's not at all easy

And it certainly does sound as if you are too ill to work -

Let's hope you can make it to Friday and your annual leave - they don't seem to appreciate you at all where you work - and it also seems as if it is an emotionally unhealthy environment as well

Thinking of you Adge
