14th year house bound

14th year house bound

Hi Everyone,

I am new hear, after being removed from other mental health forums for my depressive thoughts i thought i would give this forum a try, this is my story.

I am 33 live with my mother, i am almost compeatly housebound, i leave my house once in the morning for a walk at 6am and maybe once during the week, both times i leave the house fill me with great anxiety, i have no friends, (the last friend i had was in 2001), i have never had a job, never had a girlfriend and never been able to leave my parents side, my father died in 2001 and i have always suffered seperation anxiety the last time i had a night away from home was 1994 for one night (parents had to pick me up at midnight because i was so frantic).

I have spent most of the past 14 years in my room, or the shed, never much out of the yard, no one in my town knows me, people stare and ask each other behind my back if any one knows who i am.

I have only had an income for the past year and spend the previous 7 with no income at all, mum had to use all of her life savings to allow me to live with her and she now has nothing.

I only want to live long enough to care for her in her old age and then i plan to take my own life, i knew from an early age my life would turn out like this, but had no idea how horrible it would be, every day is the same, i often wonder why i keep going, i have very little contact with family (maybe once a year) and i am really struggling to keep going.

Please don't feel distressed about what i am saying, and i am so sorry if i have offended anyone, it is just how i feel.

Their is so much more, but i will leave it at that for the moment, i am shaking and the anxiety is kicking in so thankyou for reading and i will add more later.

Jacques

Hi Jacques
I'm really anxious about tomorrow. There will be around one thousand people.
How am I going to manage so many triggers.

I don't want to embarrass the girls by having a panic attack.
It's going to be so noisy.

I am so overwhelmed.....
I don't know how I'm going to do it.

Hope you are ok

Karen

Hi My angel,

A little trick i use, ear plugs, i jump at nooises too, i got some of those tradie ear plugs, they are foam and fit inside the ear, you can here people talking but it takes the loudness out of it.

Karen you will be fine, focus on some Mandala's tonight, try anything to distract yourself, the more you focus on it the worse it will get, once you are their it will go so fast. Just picture me standing beside you, you will be fine, if you need a break, go out side, take some time out, focus on the children, you seem to be more comfortable around them, you are going to be so busy with the make up.

Karen the girls are going to be in their own world, the excitment, the fun, they will be focused on the play too.

Karen i know exactly what is going through your head now, all the possabilities that could arise, i do it too, the what if's, listen to music, play with the girls, remember destraction for tonight.

i am good tonight, the dark cloud seems to have passed from over me, for now. i am so excited to here how the costumes go tomorrow, and the play. i am sitting here cheering you on.

i suppose the girls are getting the last of the practice in? make sure you get into it tonight too, have some fun, enjoy the good times.

Remember a sleeping bag and hot water bottle are always available.

Thanks for understanding Jacques, and the idea. Shame I can't do anything about certain smells that trigger.

I spoke to a man on lifeline and he also suffers from ptsd and social anxiety, his suggestion to help being around people or while walking is to wear sunglasses. It's helps me because people can't see my eyes.

Unfortunately I can't wear them at night.

I will try and spend my time backstage with the children doing make up, hair, and costumes.

I really very scared

I'm so glad you are feeling better today

Headphones and sun glasses - both great ideas.

@hiddenite You mentioned a relaxing podcast to Jacques a little while ago - is that something that works for you? Maybe you could have ear phones in with some relaxing music to remove your conciousness from the noise. Would that be possibe?

When the moment comes when your little girl is on stage, everything else will fade away and there will only be here.

Enjoy the moment and celebrate the amazing mum you are; who got her up there (and her whole class dressed!!).

Karen you have your essential oils?, maybe put a little bit on your top lip, it will dilute other smells, worth a try?

i sometimes do it with eucalyptus, it works sometimes.

Yes try to spend most of your time back stage, but remember to go outside once in a while to get some fresh air, some alone time, i Know how scared you must be, i could not do what you are doing, i see so much strength in you, you are a wonderful mum and you will get through this, i will help you.

Re: 14th year house bound

@hiddenite If you have something that is not triggering that has a strong aroma, could you put some on a hanky to inhale to help with triggering smells? I don't know what odours trigger you so please use your own judgement, but for me lavender oil, or rosemary, or peppermint oils are fantastic at knocking out other aromas and grounding me. I'm not so much triggered by smells, but get very overwhelmed by them.

Re: 14th year house bound

Hi cookmojo

Thanks for the suggestion. I use essential oils to try and help.

My triggers are cigarette smells, alcohol , men's deodorant, and some aftershave.

Then the worst is men , loud noises, and big groups of people.

Anyway thank you

Hi Jacques

Well the big day is here I am terrified.

It's freezing cold and raining so much some of the roads have been flooded.

I haven't managed to organise the break down of cheques that have to be organised through the bank and then driven over an hour away to the solicitor. What a mess.

I still haven't managed to get the electricity 're connected.

So overwhelmed

Hope you are ok

Hi my angel,

Yes I am feeling much better today, please remember I am their holding your hand tonight, you can do it.

It is cold and overcast here too, have spent the morning in the shed.

Karen I know it is difficult, but you need to sort out the house soon, I find when I am overwhelmed I try to do it all at once, so I only suffer 1 panic attack, I usually go numb after the first place, so the rest are not so bad. I know it is difficult, but you need to get it sorted soon.

I know how tough it is for you, I don't know if I would be able to do what you have done. I am so proud of you.

Remember to take deep breaths, use your sensory box, and practice mindfulness, take things one at a time, break the day into hours, focus on the moment.

I believe in you my angel.
