14th year house bound

14th year house bound

Hi Everyone,

I am new hear, after being removed from other mental health forums for my depressive thoughts i thought i would give this forum a try, this is my story.

I am 33 live with my mother, i am almost compeatly housebound, i leave my house once in the morning for a walk at 6am and maybe once during the week, both times i leave the house fill me with great anxiety, i have no friends, (the last friend i had was in 2001), i have never had a job, never had a girlfriend and never been able to leave my parents side, my father died in 2001 and i have always suffered seperation anxiety the last time i had a night away from home was 1994 for one night (parents had to pick me up at midnight because i was so frantic).

I have spent most of the past 14 years in my room, or the shed, never much out of the yard, no one in my town knows me, people stare and ask each other behind my back if any one knows who i am.

I have only had an income for the past year and spend the previous 7 with no income at all, mum had to use all of her life savings to allow me to live with her and she now has nothing.

I only want to live long enough to care for her in her old age and then i plan to take my own life, i knew from an early age my life would turn out like this, but had no idea how horrible it would be, every day is the same, i often wonder why i keep going, i have very little contact with family (maybe once a year) and i am really struggling to keep going.

Please don't feel distressed about what i am saying, and i am so sorry if i have offended anyone, it is just how i feel.

Their is so much more, but i will leave it at that for the moment, i am shaking and the anxiety is kicking in so thankyou for reading and i will add more later.

Jacques

Re: 14th year house bound

i have to say @Appleblossom, your characterisation of people with MI is spot on, maybe because we hurt so much we have more empathy than the general population.

i agree with the euthinasia comment, i know i don't want to hurt others, but the decision about euthinasia is a personal one, not selfish it is about deciding what is right for you.

I am so sorry you have had bad experiances with the MH sector, oh my iso many people have negative interactions with MH system, me included. their needs to be a serious shake up of the system. i know when my father was studying to be a psycologist their where some in his class that were focused on the big wages. not all but some, i think a lot of the time these people seem to think their job description is having a little chat and everything will be magically fixed. a lot of people think that, i think their also needs to be a complete overhaul of the trainning system for MH professionals, as far as my understanding goes, they are not meant to judge, but maybe i am mistaken.

i think in a lot of cases the decent MH professionals are so overwhelmed with cases that have just had a bad day, the ones with real problems are being trated as being over dramatic, because the MH professionals are becomming desensitized to their clients.

This is just my thoughts, it does nt reflect this forum or the people in it. this is just my experiance and understanding of the system.

Re: 14th year house bound

You are very clear and dont make sweeping statements.. Your point about some MH profs being desensitzed to their clients is good. I know the system is stretched. Sad but true. I would help if there was an opening ... and I knew i could be effective.

it is my understanding that this forum exists to help us and to help the helpers better understand what to do in this MI pandemic.

I dont know the answers, I am also just babbling, but I spontaneously vented seeing myself in similar position to Karen when my son was at her kids ages. It might prepare her mentally to know she isnt the only one. That there are different ways to proceed. To take one step at a time rather than collapse with worry. I was terrified of the damage done to my son by all sorts of things that I could not protect him from.

It helps me just to be me without all the hyper vigilance and fear about what I am allowed or not allowed to say.

In the end I hired a private psychologist for 8 years, to assist me with the school refusal and keep gentle, more objective, but friendly eye on my son. I would have liked to pay for a myotherapist for me, still waiting to for that .. maybe next month. My choice what I spend my money on .. no regrets. Kids first. I didnt get others off the hook to have my son suffer things he had no real responsibility for.

But that cranky child psychiatrist upset me, let my son down and wasted tax dollars ..

I have had good experiences with MH workers too .. but it has been a long and tricky road.

@Appleblossom you are not babbling, you make a lot of sense, and i am glad you are encouraging Karen to see that their is light at the end of the long dark tunnel. Iam also quite happy that you vent here too, i think we all get frustrated at ourselves and the system, it is only natural.

I hope one day @Appleblossom you manage to get some professional help, you son should be so happy you put him first, and from what i can see you are a great mum, you son is lucky to have you. it is so good you and your son have artistic outlets to release you frustration, how is the music going anyway?

you are right it is good that on this forum we can talk about everything, no matter how uncomfortable or unpleasent, it is good sometimes to give others an insight into the patients view of the system. Karen has been let down again and again by the system, she has been desperate to get help with no one wanting to help her. sometimes it is just not fair.

I have a okan on what I'll do if they put me back in the mhu I can't go back.

Hi My Angel,

thank you it is good to help each other.

try to calm yourself with your essential oils, etc. what will be will be, you can't change the outcome, just go with it.

just remember i am with you, holding your hand, you can do it.

Re: 14th year house bound

Hi Jacques

my appointment didn't go well.

They told me that they want me to go back to the mental health unit.
I said I didn't want to traumatise the girls by going back in again. When they already say they can't help me. The psychologist told me to just tell the girls I was going on holidays.
That they wouldn't realize.

They are not that stupid I've been in the mhu five times since October.

I'm so scared they are going to make me involuntary.

I promised myself I would never let that happen again. I feel so threatened. That my back is against the wall.
Out if options I can't go back. Not to be around violent and abusive men.....

I don't know what to do.

I hate what I have become.
Karen

Re: 14th year house bound

Hi Karen,

It sounds like things are not great 😞 Try to remember that going away for a short time is not going to be anywhere near as traumatic and devastating as losing you permanently would be. They need you for their continuing safety and to be able to trust in the world being a safe place. If you do need to go back into the MHU will it be in the private ward and maybe safer for you? I was probably just lucky being on a general ward and in a single room in the public hospital but I never left my room and while i would jump every time someone walked past my door I was able to generally feel quite safe in there.

Stay safe please, keep thinking of those girls who love you soooo much! You are stronger than all of this and you really can get through,

ring the suicide call back line, you've found them helpful before i remember you saying i think..

much care and love,

LJ

Re: 14th year house bound

Oh Karen i am so sorry, it is a tough situation, but from my understanding they can't make you go back, unless you are a threat to others or yourself. you are right the girls are old enough now to know what is going on. did you tell them you are planning for the future, house, reno, etc?

Karen please talk to me if you are feeling overwhelmed, you are right if you feel you are getting no help, their is no point, you need to be in a private facility, where you are cared for properly.

take time, think things through, i know it is not pleasent, i feel the same about myself i hate what i have become too, but lately you have sounded a lot better, you are reaching out to others, doing more and more things with the girls, i don't understand their logic.

anyway i am here if you need/want to talk

Big hugs my angel

Jacques

Re: 14th year house bound

You seem to get a lot of being with your children and doing good things with them and afraid of mhu .. so why are they suggesting it .. Cant say I am impressed by the psych telling you to tell girls that you are going on hols .. stupid encouraging of lies .. in my humble opinion ..I thought that went out in the 50s.

I happen to have a fairly good memory of what went on when my mother was hospitaiised the 2nd time and I was 6 years old .. NO kids that age are not stupid .. Iso that person may be complicating things.

They might be panicking for you .. and making poor decisions.

If you could have a type of support that would make a difference and help you with the children .. what would it be? Imagine in another world .. what might help .. a weekly visit once you are settled
