14th year house bound

14th year house bound

Hi Everyone,

I am new hear, after being removed from other mental health forums for my depressive thoughts i thought i would give this forum a try, this is my story.

I am 33 live with my mother, i am almost compeatly housebound, i leave my house once in the morning for a walk at 6am and maybe once during the week, both times i leave the house fill me with great anxiety, i have no friends, (the last friend i had was in 2001), i have never had a job, never had a girlfriend and never been able to leave my parents side, my father died in 2001 and i have always suffered seperation anxiety the last time i had a night away from home was 1994 for one night (parents had to pick me up at midnight because i was so frantic).

I have spent most of the past 14 years in my room, or the shed, never much out of the yard, no one in my town knows me, people stare and ask each other behind my back if any one knows who i am.

I have only had an income for the past year and spend the previous 7 with no income at all, mum had to use all of her life savings to allow me to live with her and she now has nothing.

I only want to live long enough to care for her in her old age and then i plan to take my own life, i knew from an early age my life would turn out like this, but had no idea how horrible it would be, every day is the same, i often wonder why i keep going, i have very little contact with family (maybe once a year) and i am really struggling to keep going.

Please don't feel distressed about what i am saying, and i am so sorry if i have offended anyone, it is just how i feel.

Their is so much more, but i will leave it at that for the moment, i am shaking and the anxiety is kicking in so thankyou for reading and i will add more later.

Jacques

Thanks Jacques I just wish she would show me some compassion, I'm doing my best, while struggling not only with my mental health but the girls as well.

The neighbor loved her cards, she is so kind to the girls even gives them birthday and Christmas presents.

I know I'll never please her but I keep trying to get her love and approval.I'll never learn.

I know KAren, you are going so far beyond what i could do, the care and love you show your girls is so inspiring, you put their health and wellbeing before your own, this just demonstrates how much of a good mother you are, and you are making a home on top of all that, it takes a lot of energy and courage to do what you are doing.

Karen you are doing a phenomminal job if you ask me, i am always so shocked at how you are coping and struggling through every day, i often feel ashamed complaining when you work so hard with the girls and the house. and struggle with your own daemons on top of all that.

OMG your neighbour sounds fantastic, it is good the girls have someone to show them not everyone is bad, that their are good people out their.

Karen of course you are always going to try, everyone wants to please their parents, i feel like a failure because i am not forfilling my parents dreams of my life, Karen, please don't stop trying, maybe one day she will show you that she does really care about you and love you. Karen i can tell you all the lovely words that i think you are, i really want you to believe these words about yourself, you are a wonderful mother, a good friend, a wonderful caring, kind strong person.

Dear @hiddenite

I dont have @Jacques words so please bear with me. But it feels like your Mother likes to fight in words. So does my Mum.

What is good is that it's all good to focus on our mother's negativity. Personally, My mother has done something just awful to me in the past 2 weeks, it was almost psychic of her that she knew I was on medication changes...but......she will never change. This is her lot. We are changing.

Its easy to think about the negativity, its harder to focus on the positives. I think the best thing my mother gave me is a Passion to find different solutions, education in my children. Giving me sons the oppertunities I didnt get, even though I have MI they both do hear me.

My Mum Loves my brothers. she talks to them like they are humans.....ahh.....the joys of living in a paternalistic society.

She takes her hatred of herself on me. She has anger of herself.

I need to hold it and not act it out. She has given me a love of education, my wonderful sons were brought up the best I could because she taught me education she taught me to give them oppertunities in soul I was never given. I make many many mistakes. I sent an apology to one of their friends just yesterday. I dearly wish my son would take medication .........

Check out interview Gillian Mears on One Plus One its just wonderful on campassion, She needs the next prize on writing children's books and how to see the world and she has disability

You and me.... We are changing.

Its easy to think about the negativity, its harder to focus on the positives. This is the only way that change can happen though.

I think the best thing my mother gave me is a Passion to find different solutions, and I really really focused on education in my children. Giving me sons the oppertunities I didnt get, even though I have MI.

My Mum Loves my brothers. she talks to them like they are humans.....ahh.....the joys of living in a paternalistic society.

She takes her hatred of herself out on me. I reason this; before, her friends believed her negative talk of me but little by little.....they get to meet me.....Perth is a small place......she hates me but she loves me very much.... She has anger of herself.

I need to hold it and not act it out. She has given me a love of education, my wonderful sons were brought up the best I could because she taught me education she taught me to give them oppertunities in soul I was never given. You are blossoming Karen.

So you could start up a piece of paper one side; what positives has your Mum given you and one side....what she does wrong. It keeps things in perspective.

Re: 14th year house bound

I was writing a reply when I needed to go and make dinner and do singing. Then I lost the post. So here I am again.

Dear @Jacques I hear your sensitivity and it is that quality and your ethics that makes you so conscientious. Do what you feel you have to do .. all human sharing beyond set manners and narrow interests ... is a risk .. I think you doubt your value ... but we do not ... sometimes it is hard to accept compliments and that is what our support was in a way. I dont want you to become too self conscious.

I would not exclude or gang up against another forumite. Often times it happens in life ... but I suspect a lot of us on the forum have been hurt that way and would refrain from doing that.

I am glad Karen has been walking closely with you on this.

@hiddenite I hope you can learn to build an interior castle protecting you from being hurt by anybody who doesnt appreciate your effort. hide a little clause in your heart that just flicks back unkind comments.

I let people know that my garden isnt a show piece .. its a place for me to play ... its a mess at the moment .. though I weeded and did repot some orchids and plant out a raspberry and other cuttings today.

Re: 14th year house bound

I love the above comments, and I can relate to how your mum is treating you... I had the same things, when I got into uni (a minor miracle!!) my mums first comment was "youre only becoming a teacher because you know I hate teachers" ... My ex husband didn't like her and encouraged me to break off contact with her (which was probably the only helpful thing he ever did!) . But we always have that pull to have to love and please our parents... I still feel guilty about not seeing her at times but... The stress she would add to my life would be too much...
You and Jacques are wonderful people and while you're not feeling comfortable out in the forums we might all just cost up here for a while.. Blankets and chocolates are out and being handed around! Anyone for a cuppa? Xx
