Something’s not right

I don't know how much longer I can last.

I don't know how much longer I can last.

I can't keep doing this. I wake up, go to work where I feel invisible and like I'm making it hard for everyone else. I go home where I sit by myself. I don't really have any friends. I am just making life hard for everyone else. I try to find reasons to keep going, and for ages the only thing keeping me going was that while I am completely miserable, my death would hurt others. But now I'm thinking that they'd be better off. I won't be wasting people's times. And I already feel dead.
I'm just bringing everyone down.

Re: I don't know how much longer I can last.

Update guys.
Went to see my GP today. He's written me a referral to see the psychiatrist I saw back in Feb. We talked out how to handle the work meeting, as I can't get to psychologist (or likely the psychiatrist) until early June. I'm feeling a bit more comfortable with it now.

I have to laugh though, he actually wrote on the referral "I feel she would run a mile from group therapy". Coz the psychiatrist wrote in her initial assessment that group therapy would benefit me. 😀

Re: I don't know how much longer I can last.

I love it when you have a good GP.

Though i can understand your disgust of group therapy. .......( so do I ) A good book to read....... It's a novel by Joseph Yalom called ' The Shopenhour Cure.' Its a good good novel about someone in group therapy and his ' journey.' It may squelch beliefs that group therapy doesn't work.

Squelch. I just used the word squelch. I must have thought of that mouse my friend saw running behind my tv 2 or 3 hours ago.

That's great news @Crazy_Bug_Lady.

Your doctor sounds like he 'gets you'

I'm so happy that you've been so proactive and that you're getting support, you're an inspiration @Crazy_Bug_Lady.

Re: I don't know how much longer I can last.

Thanks guys.

I got a call first thing this morning from the psychiatrist's office to say that they'd recieved the referral (that the GP faxed at 7pm last night) and he had rung them again this morning. They'd had a last minute cancellation so I actually managed to get in to see the psychiartist today.

The psychiatrist has told me to up my AD's, I don't really like being on meds in the first place but I know they're helping, and I obviously need extra help. She also gave me homework (getting sick of all the homework ) and wrote a doctor's note for my boss saying I am not to have any meetings involving HR due to my anxiety for the next 6 months!

Now then. I have a question, and I'm hoping my forum buddies have a bit of an idea...

I gave my boss the certificate, and she said she'd send it to HR. She didn't seem too impressed with it, but that's not really my fault (is it??). About an hour later she sent me an email saying HR has asked me to fill out a form and send it back. This form gives "any medical practitioner to release and provide to my employer, any information relating to my current medical condition which is hindering my capacity to undertake my duties"

Has anyone got any experience with this sort of thing?? I am not particularly comfortable with this, and I've told my bass that, and asked why I need to...

Paranoia steps in, will they use this against me??

Hmmm that might be one to take ti your peak consumer mental health body in your state or territory. In Victoria that is vmiac, www.vmiac.org.au
I am not sure what the legalities of this request are as you are not on a work cover plan so I have no clue..

Re: I don't know how much longer I can last.

Thanks @Alessandra1992

I sent my boss an email asking why, and she's emailed HR (who requested it) and CC'ed me in.

It's not hindering my capacity to work, and the doctor's note simply says that where possible I need to avoid meetings, particularly those with HR involved as it makes my SA worse.

That's where I'm lost @PeppiPatty, They seemed understanding last year, but don't now.

Heya @Crazy_Bug_Lady

Firstly, no this definitely not your fault. You are doing all that you can.

That said, I can see why you're feeling worried about it. It can feel stressful not knowing what your managers are thinking of the situation.

There's this discussion about MI and workplaces. You might also find getting in contact with Job Access useful. They can provide information and support to employers and employees affected by MI.

Off the top of my head - and I'm not expert in this area, so I'm not certain - you are not obliged to disclose your MI unless it impacts on your work duties.

Your psychiatrist might be a good source of information too. They will be able to tell you what information they would provide the employer with and what they would likely be wanting to know, and what his/her response would be.(i'm sure the psychiatrist has had other patients with similar situations). You can then guage for yourself whether or not you want to sign the form. I would also feel hesitant about them wanting information.

Good luck
