My Hospital Stay

My Hospital Stay

So I arrived here at midday today.
Feeling a bit lost. Everything is so ... strange.
Not sure what to do now.
Starting to get a bit anxious. A bit teary. Trying hard not to think, or to feel.
Wishing I had a bourbon or some chips or junk food. Something to keep me busy and not feeling.

Re: My Hospital Stay

A referral was sent to the private clinic and to WorkCover yesterday. WorkCover say they don't have it. Typical.
Have to wait to see if WorkCover approves the stay. Then wait for a psychiatrist to treat me at the private clinic. Then wait for a bed to be available at the clinic.
My suicidal fantasy doesn't scare me anymore. It's calming. I know I have it as a backup plan. But I will try hospital one more time first.
Had a call from the CAT Service - not my district - my ex workplace - but another one. They'll call me again tomorrow. I hope I'm not here tomorrow. I want to be in hospital.
My son turns 15 tomorrow. Going to be very hard to see him. Not that he wants me to. Also my sisters birthday tomorrow (no wonder my son amd her get along so well) - but I don't have to see her.
Got a letter today from first hospital about my complaint letter re: the Old Bugger. They appologised & sent me a rights and responsibilities for patients brochure. Bit too late for that. They haven't talked to the Old Bugger, because he stopped practicing at that hospital before my complaint was received.
I knew it. He wasn't told to leave. He left before any enquiry could be made. Chicken.
Have to see my gp in an hour. Just want to stay in bed and go nowhere - until I can go to hospital.
Waiting for approval. Waiting for a psych. Waiting for a bed. Waiting to get better. So tired of waiting.

Re: My Hospital Stay

@utopia I super hope you don't have to wait too long.

I relate to what you said about your suicide fantasy being calming. I very much feel that way too. It always amuses me when I share with someone that I'm having thoughts of suicide and they say "that's not an option." Yes it is, it is always an option. I can walk into my garage any time I choose and end my life. I am 100% completely free to do that. And yes, knowing that the option is there is very calming.

Having said that, I also know that suicide is an extremely big decision and it isn't wise to make any big decisions when one's brain is flooded with big feelings.

I really hope you are able to get the support you are seeking super soon @utopia.

@Phoenix_Rising. Suicidal thoughts in the past - they used to scare me.
Not any more. Yes now it's soothing and comforting to have a good plan.

Re: My Hospital Stay

@utopia Yep, that's where I've been at for the past eight months or so. The suicidal thoughts used to super scare me and I used to plead for help. But my world now is such that there is no help...except for the annoying people at SANE who seem to have wormed their way into my shell such that I know I will always call them before I act on an urge. Darn annoying caring people!

Re: My Hospital Stay

hey Utopia,

Man can I relate. I went into a private hospital in late 2014 for a prolonged drug problem and those first 24 hours were a strangely surreal reality. I had no idea what to do, where to go, who to speak to, how to act. Oblivious. You'll honestly be okay though. It didn't take me long at all to start socialising and I think there's something really valuable that comes from this collective sense of being together under such sad circumstances. People rally behind one another and I ended up feeling so close to everyone i was in with. Almost like a family of struggling souls backing eachother as much as they can.

I'm sure in the next few days things will start to make more sense and you will eventually begin to enjoy your stay. I know I did, and i got so much valuable experience and knowledge. Sending you my kindest wishes,

Pat.

Re: My Hospital Stay

WorkCover say they didn't get the referral last night from my gp. My case manager is away - so my old one is looking after things (me). He said he would call my gp and get the referral refaxed.
The private clinic have my referral. The psychiatrist that treated me last time can't take me on as a patient there - she has too many clients. They have some psychiatrists in mind who might look after me - but they can't contact the psychiatrists - until they get written approval from WorkCover.
And I can't get a bed until a psychiatrist agreesto take me on as a client.
My gp rang WorkCover. WorkCover don't believe this is work related - as I've had depression before. My gp can't confirm with them what I was like before the workplace injury - because she didn't treat me then. The gp I saw no longer works there.
WorkCover want my gp to say how long I needin hhospital. My gp said she doesn't know. That's up to the psychiatrist to say. She didn't receive any paperwork from the hospital regarding my treatment or a plan - after treatment.
WorkCover say I 'should have a psychiatrist. She explained I did - but we had 'a falling out' What the?
WorkCover says it's my responsibility to work with a psychiatrist. Really. I've been trying to get a psychiatrist since I last left hospital. But the last psychiatrist forgot to write the referral.
So I just rang WorkCover. Yes they have the referral. It doesn't have enough detail on it. It only says - 'increasing depression and SI'. They want it to say how long I need treatment and to confirm it's workplace injury related.
So they have now left a message for my psychologist - for him to call them back & confirm or not - whether my current depression and SI is related to my workplace injury. Only if it is related - and proved to be related - will they approve my hospital stay.
It's now 3.30pm. WorkCover closes at 5 & doesn't reopen til Monday. Don't think I will get an answer today. And doesn't look like the answer will be positive, anyway.
I hate this system.

Mum tried ringing WorkCover. My case manager - etc - are in a meeting. She has demanded they call her today!. She suggested I speak to my lawyers. So I've just spoke to my lawyer. He will speak to my psychologist and then talk to WorkCover.
Don't think any of this will help.

WorkCover - their aim is to get you off their books. You either leave - because you can't take it any more. Or you die - because you can't take it any more. They don't care which way you get off their books. So long as you are gone
