My Hospital Stay

My Hospital Stay

So I arrived here at midday today.
Feeling a bit lost. Everything is so ... strange.
Not sure what to do now.
Starting to get a bit anxious. A bit teary. Trying hard not to think, or to feel.
Wishing I had a bourbon or some chips or junk food. Something to keep me busy and not feeling.

Re: My Hospital Stay

Thanks everyone. Was feeling pretty sorry for myself. So I got out of bed. Threw on some cleanish clothes and drove to the big town. Got the meeting location wrong. Bugger. This one was at the hospital - my ex employer. I went anyway, because I knew if I stayed home I'd struggle badly tonight. Was worried I'd bump into another employee or worse - one of those bastard Managers that bullied me so badly after I was on WorkCover. But I didn't. Whhoo.
Glad I went tonight. Even though I only got home.
Have a lot to do tomorrow.
Sort out this referral for a new psychiatrist.
Get an appointment with any gp at my clinic tomorrow. I've run out of 1 of my meds and need new scripts for all of my medications.
Need to make an appointment to see my gp on Thursday or Friday to get my next WorkCover Certificate filled in. My last one ran out almost a month ago.
Need to go to tomorrow nights AA Meeting.
Check to see if Meditation Class will be back on this Tuesday. Haven't been for about 3 months.
Well I got through another day - sober.
Hard trying to stay off the drink while battling depression.
Yes, I live in regional/rural Victoria. I have a great psychologist here in my town (currently on holiday). And I have my GP.
The psychiatrists in the larger towns - I used to work for. Even the private psychiatrists work part time for my ex employer. And I don't trust my ex employer to not get my personal information off these guys. So I can't use them. I need to find one in Melbourne. One who hopefully will Skype some sessions with me. My psychologist wants to sit in on a few skyped sessions, to make sure, that this time, my psychiatrist and psychologist are working together - for my benefit.
There are no day programs here. And I live too far away from Melbourne to attend day programs there. It's just what it's like here in the country.
Anyway. Enough rambling from me.
Thanks for responding. @Former-Member @Shaz51 @Former-Member @Faith-and-Hope. Hope I haven't forgotten anyone.
I appreciate your kind words. It helps.

Re: My Hospital Stay

Hi @utopia

It must be really tough for you living out there in the country - with so few services

There must be advantages being out in all that nature - I would like the nature - but I like the city with the infra-structure - it is easy to get things in Melbourne

On the other hand there is the Suburban Wilderness - that has disadvantages - but we have more choices and we can be more anonymous here

And - it is tough but every day you get through without a drink is a good day - but a hard - a day that has rough edges that really hurt at times

Still thinking about you though

Re: My Hospital Stay

Thanks @Owlunar. Yes the city has its infrastructure and services. But the country has the peace, the birds singing, the wildlife, the aboriginal history, the space, affordable housing & anonymity if you want it.
I got my scripts written at the Doctors & filled at the pharmacy just now. Have left another voice message for the female psychiatrist who treated me last in hospital - asking about the referral. Left a voice message on the outpatient number - asking about a psychiatrist to take me on as a patient. I hope I'm not being 'shunned' for reporting the Old Bugger. I hope not.
Went to bed at 2am. Woke at 11.40am. I have to do better than that. So I'm trying to stay out of my bed today & sit on the couch in the lounge room instead. Then after tonights AA Meeting, I'll try and fall asleep earlier.
That's my plan anyway.

@Former-Member
g'day. Yes it has been ages since we spoke. I have been self absorbed in my own MI the past few months.
So glad you could respond to that other member. I hope you didn't mind me tagging you - but you were the person I thought of when I read his post.
Sorry to hear things are still difficult with your daughter. But glad to hear you are taking the strong road with her. I think tough love is the only way to go.
Please make sure that you and your husband are looking after your own health.
So what's new in your life?
Me, I've gone from 3 dogs to 2 dogs. Mum took one to be rehomed. Easier for me to manage 2 dogs. My son has been living at my mums since late April. Early May I went to hospital for my suicidal thoughts. Has been 73 days without drinking today. I go to AA Meetings to help me. Still struggling with my depression, but it's not as bad as it was 2 months ago. So am just getting by each day.
And hope that I will keep getting better and then have my son come home again.

Re: My Hospital Stay

Oh @utopia - I just read your post. Huge hugs - I wish I could of been there for you. Such a battle you have been through but successfully beating the odds now! Keep going! I know you can and will overcome, you have what it takes and I have absolutely no doubt you will turn your life around. It's been a hard road but I have faith in you, and I can see you now are starting to have that in yourself.

It must be heartbreaking to be separated from you son, but that in time will heal and you will both be closer than ever in the future. Keep that in your mind without doubt. I am glad he is with your mum rather than elsewhere and remains close. This is your time now to heal and reinvent and that you will. It's a time of growth.

I was an alcoholic when quite young. I know that urge to escape from the inner pain and how hard that is to beat. I also know the self destructiveness of it and its relief being only temporary followed by added grief and worsening of depression. I think we get to a stage where we want better for ourselves and to learn better ways of coping. And we also do it for those we love. I got to a stage were it is time to change or go totally under. I felt empty and wanted more and worked on it and still do. It's a life long journey of growth and gets better in time. Never easy but easier and better. You have chosen better for yourself and your son. Feel proud. That takes strength.

I am glad you have support while you are going through this difficult time. Very good to read your depression is better - due to your strength, love and hard work. There's a road ahead but keep going this way and you will discover that the good days will start to outnumber the bad. The best in life lyes before you and through this experience and positive change you will go on to help many others living a more fulfilled life. Trust me. Even if life is never easy it takes on more meaning making it more worthwhile and happier.

One day at a time is the only way. To live in the now and hold onto the good, forget the rest. That is what I am having to do to get through as per usual life is throwing me boulders. I just have to keep busier and busier reinventing more goals to suit my circumstance (I am more limited due to injuries presently).

I will step out tomorrow as 5 days in bed is enough and I don't want to go down.

You will keep getting better my friend. When feeling vulnerable keep away from your triggers as much as possible and people that may trigger. If not avoidable arm yourself with your most cherished values, self value and belief, determination and reasons on the forefront of your mind to keep being strong and the faith that things will get better in time. When it gets really hard call out for help in anyway that you feel inspired to and that help will come. All things pass - keep telling yourself when having a bad day. And then it's moment to moment....holding onto the hope and vision of a better future and refuse to doubt it.

I will definitely keep touch and am always here for you. Lots of love ❤️

Re: My Hospital Stay

P.S. Going to sleep earlier followed by getting up earlier is a good plan. Then planning your day to your limitations. Try not to sit and think...this is my enemy being somewhat bedbound at the moment. Routine is helpful in healing from depression I have found. 🤗xxx

Re: My Hospital Stay

Thank you @Former-Member. They were beautifulwords. Yes one day at a time. All leading to a better life.
I'm sorry to hear you have been bed bound with your injuries. Will be a good feeling when you are sitting in another room. A different perspective. A different way of feeling.
I hope you start healing soon.
Again, thank you for your caring words.
I'm off to AA now. Rain and wind just started, so will rug up with my jacket, scarf and a beanie.
