My Hospital Stay

My Hospital Stay

So I arrived here at midday today.
Feeling a bit lost. Everything is so ... strange.
Not sure what to do now.
Starting to get a bit anxious. A bit teary. Trying hard not to think, or to feel.
Wishing I had a bourbon or some chips or junk food. Something to keep me busy and not feeling.

Re: My Hospital Stay

Hi @Former-Member - I could be making assumptions here but drugs classed as atypical antipsychotics like (I removed the brand name) are used in lower dosages as anti-depressants, anti-anxiety and as sleeping agents. I take 100mg at night and I'm not diagnosed psychotic. People with schizophrenia and bipolar tend to be prescribed those drugs in much higher dosages, like 400mg, 800mg or higher. Great idea with the MH resort - sign me up for a six month stay

Re: My Hospital Stay

I should add that sometimes atypical antipsychoitcs are used to augment a patient's antidepressant medication... so if the AD med is not quite working the augmenting med can give it a push you could say.

I have an idea that the antipsychotic Utopia could be taking is one that I have taken in the past to try and make my trigeminal neuralgia easier to handle - so it can be used as a pain killer as well - it didn't really work for me but stoned - oh yeah - I was - and I didn't have Trigeminal Neuraliga either - I had two abscessed teeth that they tried to root-fill but they had to come out - so long ago now

Lapses I love your idea of a health resort or place where we could all go to recover - I ask questions about the drugs I take - I ask the doctor and the pharmacist - I want a print-out and I read it thoroughly - if there is a flyer in the box I read it - I look it up on the internet - I believe I am at the centre of my life and I am the boss and even if I have little control over some things - those I do - I do

I have no control about getting older but everyone is either getting older or they die - that's one or the other and some of us have ideas on which is better - and my Dad and I had a running joke on the subject for years - well he knows now and I have to wait a few years yet - I hope

I rattle a lot Utopia - I can talk forever - write forever - yesterday I was told to write a book but what would I write it about?

Never mind - I am in here typing everyday - nearly

You are sounding better Utopia - you have to do some hard stuff - I get that - I have done some hard stuff in my life - and I am sure there will be more - today it was taxes and after all the fuss - I got my money back - whew - worth the effort

I'm thinking of you

Re: My Hospital Stay

Thanks @Former-Member, u didn't know that but makes sense. I have heard antipsychotics can make irreversible changes to the frontal lobe (personality) so I tend to think - is it worth it if we have a choice? Guess low dose might be OK, maybe. ❓⁉❔

Re: My Hospital Stay

Wow. What a fascinating read today has been. Yes the first day on the Anti Psychotic I was on its lowest dose. Second day and since I'm on half if the lowest dose. The medication is the tiniest I've ever seen and now they cut it in half. No I don't have any psychotic symptoms or history. But at this low dose it can work well to help with high levels of anxiety.
My new psychiatrist was worried about the new AD the old bugger had me on & why he didn't just increase the dose of my original AD (as I'd requested for ages) & then adding a low dose mood stabaliser if I need that.
So far I've had 3 standard side effects of the anti psychotic. Dry mouth, dizziness & nausea & zonked or zoning out.
It's often used in those low doses when a recent event could bring on severe anxiety / stress / ptsd from before. And I've certainly felt that today with regard to not being as strong and having no physical or emotional symptoms when discussing my workplace incident. Whereas now - I'm struggling slightly. The new psychiatrist has primarily been concerned with preventing a reinstatement if my original ptsd and trigger - & of making it worse. So closing diwn my brain fir a short period - has become a huge helo in trying to prevent a total relapse.
Drugs and what they were originally designed for - can iften end up being used differently.
It's almost 11.40pm and I'm exhausted.
Sweet dreams
