My Hospital Stay

My Hospital Stay

So I arrived here at midday today.
Feeling a bit lost. Everything is so ... strange.
Not sure what to do now.
Starting to get a bit anxious. A bit teary. Trying hard not to think, or to feel.
Wishing I had a bourbon or some chips or junk food. Something to keep me busy and not feeling.

Hi @Bast

Wow - you do have a lot of work with your cats - I have had a rescue cat myself - I rescued an old stray and I think she adopted us - it is many years now since she crossed the Rainbow Bridge

The cat I have now was so active when I first got her I called her an electric cat - she was about half-grown when a friend brought her in a Barbie Box - a few weeks later when she was speyed she tore a rescue carton apart just as I got to the vet - I was in a taxi - talked about desperate - I was freaky before all this and the cat was in a bad mood - such a sweet cat too - but it turned out that she had just gone into season for the first time

She has Lower Feline Track Disorder and she has been on a special diet for her whole life but she has a beautiful coat and just little - always underweight- she doesn't tell me when her plate is empty

I love her - there is just the two of us - but I wouldn't have it any other way for now

Re: My Hospital Stay

Hi All, I just have the one cat now... he's about two or three I think. I lost his sister last year from feline infectious peritonitis. Such a nice little cat too - there's nothing you can do once they become symptomatic. Broke my heart as she was so young. The grey fluffy cat in my profile picture I got at the same time as the other two from the shelter but she had issues. She wasn't used to other cats and had been an outdoor cat and I keep mine indoors all the time. So things were not harmonious to say the least. I eventually had to return her to the shelter after perservering for a year as I couldn't get anyone to take her. Hopefully she ended up in a single cat household. I have two dogs too. One loves cats the other just wants to chase them. I'm thinking of getting another cat, probably a young female so the male cat doesn't get his nose out of joint.

Re: My Hospital Stay

Part 3
One full week.
Well the side effects are settling down a bit. Especially the stoned feeling. Dizziness and nausea are still a problem - especially by midday. Find using the Internet makes those symptoms worse. A bit like being at sea. That type of sensation.
Still not meant to go to group sessions. But did some art (not therapy based - judt create what you want). So I'm trying to draw a tree - something to remind me of my mountains and the Eucalypts. It's looking slightly like a tree - but the soothing gentle coloring in if the tree - I'm finding quite therspeautic.
Still struggling to write out my complaint letter - re: the Old Bugger & the Hospital. But maybe an hr before night meds my brain might be clearer and I can write some more then. Have a great patient who will proof read it for me and suggest any modifications. She's on the ball with paperwork like this.
I've just been told my new psychiatrist is coming in later - so I'll see her then. Hopefully she will put me on the list to see the Social Worker - because I'm all tangled with the Accident Compensation and Conciliation paperwork my mum brought in for me yesterday. So will get the social worker to help me figure out what I need to do. This is the hearing so that I can go back on WorkCover payments. Fingers crossed.
Rest of the time I'm either a chatterbox or half asleep. No in between

Re: My Hospital Stay

I think I would much rather the 'stoned' feeling stayed and the dizziness and nausea go @utopia - infact I am sure I would rather that lol

I am a little disappointed that you chose to draw a tree rather than my hearts and butterflies - but I suppose you need to look after yourself first - I'll get over it!!! lol

It is good to hear things are slowly improving for you though - and you definitely sound a lot brighter today

It is nice to see (read) some of the 'old' @utopia coming through in your posts - I'll take my little cocky friend however she comes but seeing glimpses of the 'well' you warms my heart. I love you my beautiful cocky friend

Re: My Hospital Stay

Hi @utopia - great to see that you are settling in and feeling better. I know what you mean about trying to do documentation with a "head full of cotton wool" feeling... my night time medication makes me feel so stoned I know not to do anything important half an hour after taking it. No way would I go near netbank or deal with my legal paperwork. Don't stress too much about the old bugger complaint - just put it in point form and keep it concise and not emotive. It's good having a proof reader too. I can relate to your workcover paperwork - I'm lucky that I kept very detailed documents of what happened to me as memories fade as time passes. Even though it was only six months ago I still go back over my notes when my lawyer has any questions. They are just covering everything before the hearing. We've already had two failed attempts at conciliation and I just want it to be over with but I'm also a strong believer in doing what's right and not backing down. Feel free to ask me for advice - I certainly think this has been a valuable learning experience, even though a very stressful one. Take care and get some rest.

Re: My Hospital Stay

Thank you @Former-Member @Former-Member @Zoe7. Just sleeping for under an hr and my new psychiatrist came to talk. Tmw she will up my new AD. The side effects are all due to the anti psychotic drug she put me on for reducing my anxiety over the Old Bugger incident. And they have certainly given my brain a chance to shut down amd heal a little.
She has approved some of the group therapies for me for the rest of the week. Walking group (yuk). Gentle exercise and relaxation (ok) creative Art (which I did today with my tree drawing. Sorry @Zoe7 - the hearts and butterflies are still in my mimd when I'm thinking of you. Just no 'physical art' to show for my thoughts yet). Introduction to Mindfulness (good). Understanding Depression (good) & Art Therapy (scared of that one).
I spoke to her about a social worker to help wifh my paperwork. She herself looked at it. She said who looks after your MH the most. I said my GP and my psychologist. She told me which page to have the nurses photocopy. What to fill in. Eg- giving my permission for them to write a report - on my health and how / why - I need to be put back on Workcover payments. She said not to worry about not having a psychiatrists rsport - because my gp and psychologist will be strong enough reports. So I can fill in and sign my name on that permission form tonighr and fax it to them tonight. (They both work Thur & Fri in my town - so good timing.
@Former-Member - I will definitely ask for your advice later (my head is too full at the moment. Think I was getting tangled up - because I'd been reading too far ahead in the Concilliation process.
So thanks everyone. Feeling dopey - but almost back to me at the old hospital where I was starting to get AHA moments and feel like there was hope.
Love and blessings to you. ♥♥♥♥

Re: My Hospital Stay

@utopia, why have they got you on antipsychotic? Is there evidence of psychosis in your thinking? I've not seen it in reading your posts here for over a year. Is it a side effect these drugs have they they are hoping to help you? I don't know, I'm worried about overmedicating people. And we're so vulnerable. Our distress with life. Its hard because were told to blindly trust people to chemically alter us. I would not ever advocate going against dr's orders here, but at least be sure to ask, questions, have input into decisions made for your care - explore all your options. You have to go home and fend for yourself soon enough, and have a handle on things yourself, so just saying. I wish I could build a big mental health resort with vegies gardens, animals, kitchens, craft rooms and healers, in the hills surrounded by talp trees an nature and rolling hills and birds, inc cockatoos, and therapy pets and elders with time, and teachers - and bundle you us all up for a 2month holiday every year, no insurance company or centrelink interference, just peaceful rest. But I'm a dreamer 🌷😲
