I'm in a nest

I'm in a nest

I'm making a nest because I'm not feeling very ok and I would like to have a place to retreat to while I ride it out. Everything is chaotic all around and inside me almost all of the time, and I need some time out from it. If I make a nest here I can carry it in my pocket and know it's there for me.

In this nest it's very cosy. There's lots of soft pillows and blankets. Some are made with bright colours, mostly greens, pinks and yellows, and some are made in much deeper shades of purples. The nest is egg shaped so it can be climbed into it but still be a hiding out place. There's lots of fairy lights strung around the nest. They're different shapes and some are warm yellow, some are cool white and some are multi-coloured. They can be adjusted to vary the amount and type of light inside. There's also music which can sometimes be heard throughout the whole nest and sometimes it's playing from the headphones that are always kept on the pile of cushions. There's a lava lamp as well, and squishy glitter balls to squeeze and roll in hands. There are an endless supply of soft creatures to hold or sit with. There's always flowers in the corner and this morning they are gerberas standing tall and proud, on a little wooden table. Next to the vase is a teapot, colourful and quirky, with a collection of teacups and mugs.

Right now I am sitting in a pile of cushions very still with my knees to my chest, my head on my knees and my arms wrapped around my legs. There's no music at the moment so it is very quiet. Only a couple of strings of lights are turned on and they're twinkling yellow balls, so it's very dark but there's still some light inside. I have a soft blanket around me. It's peaceful in here.

I have to sit here until I can work out what to do next. I'm surrounded by people but I don't remember feeling so alone. I feel scared of making any move right now because I don't know what the right move is, and I don't trust any direction. I'm hoping that if I can hold out like this for just a little bit longer I will know what to do.

Right now I don't want to talk but I don't want to feel so alone either, so I'm asking for someone to please come and sit quietly next to me until I can move from my ball or I am made to move from it. I don't know when that will be, but I know I can't stay like this forever.

Re: I'm in a nest

I really don't like seeing my neighbour having such a difficult time @CheerBear but you have a great attitude to help you through We do often put on the 'I am ok' hat when we really are not - I am starting to learn that it is ok to be NOT ok but it has taken a long time (and sooo much support here) to be able to do that. Every little bit of light that is shone my way makes a difference - so I hope this little bit makes a difference in your day today CB...

I'm so very drained and just want to sleep, but soon I'll get moving and force myself to do things around the house.
So sorry to hear your news CheerBear

Re: I'm in a nest

Hi @Former-Member @CheerBear @mudsum and all other nest dwellers. I am feeling a bit like I've been squished by a bus after my run in with Centrelink yesterday. I simply can't face trying to call again or go into the office...so I emailed the General Manager of CL, told him my story and asked for his help. I will give him a few days to see if he responds and then take it from there. It is SO FRUSTRATING. I'm sure the actual issue can be sorted out very quickly. I know I haven't cheated the system or anything. If the man had just used a calm voice yesterday and approached this as an issue to be clarified, rather than treating me like I had just committed major fraud, then I'm sure we could have worked it out. As it is, I am flooded with anxiety and my brain is back to being super puddled.

@CheerBear I have been reading how much you have been struggling...but now my brain is so puddled I can't remember what I read and thus I don't have any deep and meaningful response for you! I know you are struggling though and I am thinking of you. If ONLY we could find eleventy billion dollars in the gutter and create our own safe trauma-informed services.

Re: I'm in a nest

I'm sorry you were treated so badly yesterday @Phoenix_Rising . My experience with c-link is pretty much that if I walk out of an appointment or phone call not feeling like I have been run over, regardless of whether they actually did anything helpful or sorted anything out, then I take it as a win. I get an awful shudder up my spine when I think about c-link.

I too am feeling squished and flattened after this housing circus. It's like I have come out second best in a CB vs Bus match. I also told a very ugly, violent, terror kind of story to my counsellor today. I've been trying to say it but couldn't for ages until now. I know with time I will feel better for having chosen to spoke about it with a safe person, but I am feeling a bit raw on top of squished right now. There's nothing to say in response to this, but I wanted to share. We decided together that this whole curl up really tight, put my knees to my chest, wrap my arms around my legs, and cover myself in a blanket thing I do so well, is kind of like being a walnut with a hard shell keeping the soft bit inside safe. I'll take that. I like being a walnut.

I think again we are finding ourselves riding out hard stuff alone together. @Former-Member - am thinking of you here as well. It's been a hard couple of days. Thank you for the chocolate and cake too. You're my favourite tea lady 💗

I've also been thinking about this eleventy billion dollars too @Phoenix_Rising . I meant to mention it on the wave yesterday. I think maybe we are looking in the wrong place by keeping our eyes out in the gutter. I sort of feel like eleventy billion dollars is so much money that it would have to be buried somewhere deep. Maybe we need some kind of ground penetrating radar device. I found this one.

That might help? And even if it doesn't help finding enough money to establish a whole set up of safe healing places across Australia, it might help just doing something so fun and interesting. I'll keep my eye out for the many thousands of dollars I'm sure it would cost to buy a GPR, in the gutter now 😄

Re: I'm in a nest

@CheerBear, I am now bouncing off the walls with super giant empowered feelings after my win with CL. It is so long since I've had the empowered feeling, I can't actually remember when I last had it. But I have it now! These wins are so very few and far between, but when they happen, they are AWESOME!!!!

Hmmm...this is a good lesson in how feelings don't stay the same forever. They shift and change and icky feelings always pass. Quick, someone write that in BIG LETTERS somewhere so that we can all remember it!!!!!!!!!

I super hate that you're feeling so squished and flattened by your housing situation @CheerBear. I super wish I could do a magic trick with that muddle, like I seem to have done with CL today.

You were SUPER brave to tell your counsellor the icky story. I am certain that you are right about how this will have long-term benefits...but that doesn't really soothe the short-term pain does it.

Something funny jumped into my brain while I was reading your post. I'm pretty sure it isn't offensive. I will risk it... when I read that you are a walnut, the thought crossed my mind "well if you are going to be any sort of a nut, a wulnut seems like a good choice." I super hope I made you smile.

Hmmm...yes, you are definitely right about the eleventy billion dollars. It probably is buried deep underground...or under the ocean floor. I wonder if that radar device works under water...

Re: I'm in a nest

Still here @CheerBear @Phoenix_Rising and other nesters.
👋💜💟💗💕
I had to go out briefly😮😣😨
Had more yummy treats this afternoon.

Rainy day again. Am going to get my snuggle gown on.
I'd better cook a decent meal too.

Just feel like sleeping my life away.
My girl keeps me going.

Love and hugs. 😙

Oh and I found a different doctor and went yesterday. Not impressed with her at all. Stuck up so and so, lol. On the look out for another. Wish my doctor didn't leave. 😢
At least I have sleep meds and anti anxiety meds again.

I keep thinking of my puddy tat. 😢🐱

Re: I'm in a nest

I'm crawling back into the nest. I'm very sad that I'm here again, back to crawling to lie on the pillows already.

I really really didn't need to be hit with an explosion from the owner last week. I really don't need to be looking through applications for housing so soon after having lived the whole broken messy housing system thing, and so soon after moving in here. I feel like all I've done in these months is go from place to place to place, not really feeling like I belong in any of them and not really ever being able to land somewhere firm and stable. It's tiring and not nice. I really don't need to be feeling thankful that at least the application for housing is still a priority application, given what got us into this situation and that this is still not considered secure housing. I really don't need any of this at all and especially not so soon after that stay away. I can't imagine what state I would have been in (if I had even been alive enough to be in a state) if this had happened before the break, but really, I feel like I've done my fair share of shit now. I want it to stop. I know I can do this but I am not sure I want to and I don't know how to fix that. I want to give up and I am so disappointed that those words have come out of my mouth. I'm shattered that I'm putting my hand up to say that I am sinking again, and this time I don't know if I even want to try to stop it. How am I here again, when it was two weeks ago I was really starting to think about big steps forward (like uni, friends, etc.)? This shouldn't be happening.

It really is awful what you're going through again.
I understand how hard it is to fight and not having the energy to fight.
