I'm in a nest

I'm in a nest

I'm making a nest because I'm not feeling very ok and I would like to have a place to retreat to while I ride it out. Everything is chaotic all around and inside me almost all of the time, and I need some time out from it. If I make a nest here I can carry it in my pocket and know it's there for me.

In this nest it's very cosy. There's lots of soft pillows and blankets. Some are made with bright colours, mostly greens, pinks and yellows, and some are made in much deeper shades of purples. The nest is egg shaped so it can be climbed into it but still be a hiding out place. There's lots of fairy lights strung around the nest. They're different shapes and some are warm yellow, some are cool white and some are multi-coloured. They can be adjusted to vary the amount and type of light inside. There's also music which can sometimes be heard throughout the whole nest and sometimes it's playing from the headphones that are always kept on the pile of cushions. There's a lava lamp as well, and squishy glitter balls to squeeze and roll in hands. There are an endless supply of soft creatures to hold or sit with. There's always flowers in the corner and this morning they are gerberas standing tall and proud, on a little wooden table. Next to the vase is a teapot, colourful and quirky, with a collection of teacups and mugs.

Right now I am sitting in a pile of cushions very still with my knees to my chest, my head on my knees and my arms wrapped around my legs. There's no music at the moment so it is very quiet. Only a couple of strings of lights are turned on and they're twinkling yellow balls, so it's very dark but there's still some light inside. I have a soft blanket around me. It's peaceful in here.

I have to sit here until I can work out what to do next. I'm surrounded by people but I don't remember feeling so alone. I feel scared of making any move right now because I don't know what the right move is, and I don't trust any direction. I'm hoping that if I can hold out like this for just a little bit longer I will know what to do.

Right now I don't want to talk but I don't want to feel so alone either, so I'm asking for someone to please come and sit quietly next to me until I can move from my ball or I am made to move from it. I don't know when that will be, but I know I can't stay like this forever.

Thanks, @Maggie. 😊

By the way, I'm pretty sure @CheerBear has fire-proofed the nest. 🌷

Hey @Former-Member - did you read about the not-posts (I'm not sure they're here or over that way ⬅ somewhere)? They're posts you post when a post can't happen for whatever reason, to say something like "I really enjoyed reading your post and thank you for the things you said and I'm looking forward to replying when my head is more settled" which is what this one says to you tonight. Hope the night is going ok for you 🌸

Also hoping you were able to get some rest in today @Mazarita and that tonight is a bit better for you. Thinking of you 💗

I'm off to bed and thinking sleep won't be too hard tonight. Not a bad thing.

Goodnight all.

Re: I'm in a nest

Good morning in the nest ☺

Yesterday was a day that I am really happy to have seen the end of. The house inspection went fine, as my mate anxiety made sure it would, my MH worker and I had a tricky but important conversation and I had a meltdown at school because of a some intense outbursts from a LF not coping so well with new rules in the house. It was a really big day. The highlight of yesterday was being around the forum last night, which helped shift my miserable mood a little.

@Former-Member I so much feel you with the pain that can come with second (third, fourth, fifth etc) guessing, well, pretty much everything. I would really like to know more of you and your story/ies and have wanted to ask but also didn't want to intrude or overwhelm you either (so please don't answer anything I might ask if you don't want share). It's a tricky one sometimes. If you found eleventy million dollars in a gutter, what would you do with it?

Thank you truly, for what you said re the LF and I. I'm so lucky to have them and we're very lucky to have each other. In saying that, each of them had some pretty intense stuff they went through yesterday which did my head in and added to my relief at seeing the day end. Reading what you wrote there felt like incredibly well timed heart food.

I love the idea of a Brene Brown bookclub here (and was hoping that might happen). I've been taking notes (of course) and would love to join in if it's kicked off (gentle nudge to you or @Maggie when your book/s arrive if you'd like maybe? No pressure there either, if you would prefer someone else to start it shout out ☺ )

I can understand that feeling of feeling wiped out and low. Hope there's something you do that's nice for you when you're feeling that way. Quiet down time in a book-pod maybe?

I'm off to an early appointment with my psychologist today after feeling some warning signs yesterday. I may have sounded the alarm early as some laughing and some sleep has helped, but I can see I'm standing on shaky ground at the moment and I don't want to fall down too badly. I know things will be better once we move, I just have to make sure I can get to that day without any major hiccups.

Hope the day is ok for all 😊

Re: I'm in a nest

Good morning @CheerBear,

I super hope today is a brighter day for you. Yesterday sounds like it was superly duperly tricky. Today is shaping up to be a superly duperly tricky day for me. I have very much been squished by the bus with therapist-take-thirteen won't talk to my turtle whisperer without payment written on the side of it. The super icky feelings of worthlessness haven't shifted at all yet and my hopes of this being a good match have been very much curtailed.

And now I have another muddle in that the playful banter that Zoe and I were having last night about the guys in the helpcentre has been removed. It seems that it has been put in a "we're not sure about this" basket for the moment. I superly duperly trust the moderator who removed it and and I superly duperly trust NikNik and Lauz so I know it will be ok. In my brain it was harmless playful banter, but maybe there is an issue with it that I cannot see.

Today is going to be HARD out on the ocean. I should be going to my volunteering gig but for the third week in a row that isn't going to happen. The weather is matching my mood so even if I was in a headspace to go, I'm wondering if they may end up cancelling anyway. Either way, I think this little turtle will be spending a lot of today lying in bed focusing on her breathing. Operation stay alive is very much in full swing here at the moment.

It is now two weeks since (P) crossed the Rainbow Bridge. I know it will get easier, but trying to find some reason to keep on keeping on is tricky right now.

BTW, someone has posted on the DBT thread and I am not in the headspace to respond. Are you? If you aren't, that's ok, it will get done when it gets done. We still need to figure out which of us is going to kick off the doing bit of the adventure. If you are in the headspace to do it that would be super. If not, I will aim to do it over the weekend.

I am so very VERY glad that you are my not-friend and that we can be together but not as we fall into slumps and then have to work at getting unslumped over and over and over again.

Re: I'm in a nest

Thank you @Maggie. I am looking forward to seeing the photo 🙂

Good morning @Phoenix_Rising. I noticed the ocean looked a little more empty this morning and had a confusing sinky heart feeling when I saw that. I am really glad to hear from you this morning, as I imagined that may add to some already super hard trickiness of the day.

I also got the sinky heart feeling when I read about the therapist take thirteen mess yesterday 😞 I am holding on to the hope that this is not a reflection of therapist take thirteen themself (that word - I don't even know if it is one!) as you said. I so much get how that would feel bus squishing though.

I thought of you and (P) last night when I went to bed with Noodle and Mouse. I think of you and (P) lots, understanding how hard it might be.

Re the DBT thing, my hope is that after my psych appointment I will feel much more clear in my mind and therefore much more able to write for the DBT adventure. My confidence that I can kick this off properly is lacking though. I too saw a response and had flagged it as being something I hope to reply to once this appointment is over. I'll check in here or the ocean when I get home and will be able to let you know where I am at then 🙂

Phoenix_Rising - I am very, very thankful that our oceans collided and that you're you. You are an amazing not-friend.

Better run but plan to be here here later 🙂

Re: I'm in a nest

Hi @Phoenix_Rising - I am thinking of you and wondering how you're getting on this morning.

My psych appointment went as I hoped. It really helped to have someone who knows the ins and outs of this housing mess, reiterate that there is really not much else I can be doing now. Psych suggested to practice my radical acceptance skills (and for the first time in a long time this suggestion was well recieved by me 😉 ). They also helped me see that I am not actually losing control of everything as I worried I was, and reminded me that it is completely ok to be feeling as if the lingering threat of homelessness was suffocating me and would be the end of me, but that feelings and fact were different. We spoke about how retraumatising it is to be in the situation with the house. And also how mashed it makes my head to be told that I have "all the freedom I deserve" (actual real said words), while the reality is that the areas that used to be home, that I used to love, that I used to live in, are now red and orange unsafe areas and if I return not only would I be risking that which is most important to me, if people found out they "would be obliged to act on that" (said from the same ones who told me I have the freedom I deserve :S ). That feels threatening and disempowering and confusing and all kinds of not conducive to recovery from traumatic events, feelings. I am well stuck and well stuck doesn't feel great, but I am holding on to hope that it won't be like this forever. One laugh I got was when pscyh mentioned (again) how not often they have a client walking in to their office starting the session off with "I am reading the DBT skills training manual for fun". And also when they said they think I have two speeds (after no conversation between us about speeds). They said they think I have "bull at a gate" and "bull at a gate". I told them I am practicing adding "turtle speed" into it too 😉 .

Annnnnyway, now that's off my chest, I am heading over that way to reply to the post, and then I will have a bit of a think about whether I can actually brave it and kick off the doing bit.

With you through operation stay alive, and here even when you can't see me.

Re: I'm in a nest

@CheerBear I am super glad that your appointment went so well. Yes, I've had that same experience of psychologists finding it rather odd when I share that I've read the DBT manual. I love that you told your psychologist you are practicing going at turtle speed. I wonder if I will ever experience energizer-bunny speed. I'm thinking not.

I cannot believe someone told you that you have all the freedom you deserve!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Well, actually, given all my experiences with unhelpful helping people, sadly I can believe it. What the heck is WRONG with people. What could possibly be going through that person's brain to make them think that is a good thing to say. Definitely a melted snowflakey banana head!!!!!!

Operation stay alive is still very much in full swing around here and methinks it will be that way for quite a while to come now. I feel SO sick about the idea that TTT won't talk to my turtle whisperer without payment. How can anyone have a sense of worth and value when THAT is the attitude of the people you are looking to for support.??? I don't matter, I'm just a source of income.

I still haven't got any clarification around why all those posts were removed last night. However, because I superly duperly trust NikNik, Lauz and Pebbles it doesn't feel super icky like the weekend moderator saga did. I don't understand, but realistically, I'm in such a gigantic muddle right now it probably wouldn't be helpful to even try and have the conversation. If Zoe and I got carried away in our playful banter and said stuff that could be construed as unhelpful, then it was just an oopsy. And everybody makes oopsies sometimes. That doesn't make me bad, it just means I made an oopsy - right @NikNik @Former-Member and @Former-Member???

Let me know your thoughts about doing the doing bit @CheerBear because I will (hopefully, assuming my brain works!!!!) have time over the weekend to work on it. So either I can do the first bit, or you can tell me what bit you think you can get up to and I can start drafting the next bit for the following week. I feel confident that once we muddle through the first few weeks we will find our rythem. BTW did you figure out how to access the online worksheets?

I am so superly duperly glad that we are not-friends @CheerBear. Right now Forum Land is all that is keeping me afloat. If you do work on the DBT adventure today, maybe the rest of the pocket crew and I can sit on your desk to help you? Otherwise, can I snuggle in your pocket? Giggle. I just had a super funny picture pop into my brain. Because I'm in such a gigantic muddle, I am rocking constantly and I just had a picture of how anyone looking at you would see something moving around in your pocket when I am snuggled in there. You are the best not-friend ever!

Re: I'm in a nest

We're all sitting at the DBT desk and at my desk (which I SO wish I could show you because it has all my seriously cool stuff on it) at the moment @Phoenix_Rising 🙂

Have you seen my wallpaper by the way? It's awesome 😄

Thank you for seeing the ridiculousness of saying something like that about the freedom thing. It was one of those "I think my brain has just exploded so I might stay verrrrry quiet right now" moments for me :S It was months ago now and it hasn't left me.

I really can see how it would feel like that with the therapist take thirteen mess. I feel it with some of the organisations I am a client of sometimes too. It's not ok 😞

Re the oopsy, oopsies are so human. It doesn't mean you were or are bad at all. I am glad it doesn't feel as icky as the weekend one. I felt yuck with a poorly worded attempt at me being funny last night, and have put it down to a human oopsy also.

As far as the DBT kick off goes, I'm going to practice something that feels also yuck for me, and I am going to say that I am not sure I can do this (a kick off post) without me second guessing myself big time (not sure if that's a good/bad thing, or just a thing). I have this semi-draft here which I have been looking at while I am writing this post) which pretty much covered week/step 1, which is fairly well covered in the overview post. I had written questions at the end like "what might you gain from learning new skills", "what would would you consider pros and cons of learning new skills" etc. I also thought we could open a conversation about guidelines (as is G3 of week 1) relevant for our group (things like you can come and go as you please, follow the community guidelines etc) and ask whether anyone has any ideas to add. That's how I saw the "doing" week 1. If that fits with how you saw it too, then I can keep going, but if it doesn't or you want to change it/add anything/do something totally different, that's so ok with me 🙂

Also, I have my pocket and handbag with me with a rocking turtle if that's how the turtle is, and plan to have these with me so we can ride out operation stay alive together-but-not for as long as it takes 🙂
