I'm in a nest

I'm in a nest

I'm making a nest because I'm not feeling very ok and I would like to have a place to retreat to while I ride it out. Everything is chaotic all around and inside me almost all of the time, and I need some time out from it. If I make a nest here I can carry it in my pocket and know it's there for me.

In this nest it's very cosy. There's lots of soft pillows and blankets. Some are made with bright colours, mostly greens, pinks and yellows, and some are made in much deeper shades of purples. The nest is egg shaped so it can be climbed into it but still be a hiding out place. There's lots of fairy lights strung around the nest. They're different shapes and some are warm yellow, some are cool white and some are multi-coloured. They can be adjusted to vary the amount and type of light inside. There's also music which can sometimes be heard throughout the whole nest and sometimes it's playing from the headphones that are always kept on the pile of cushions. There's a lava lamp as well, and squishy glitter balls to squeeze and roll in hands. There are an endless supply of soft creatures to hold or sit with. There's always flowers in the corner and this morning they are gerberas standing tall and proud, on a little wooden table. Next to the vase is a teapot, colourful and quirky, with a collection of teacups and mugs.

Right now I am sitting in a pile of cushions very still with my knees to my chest, my head on my knees and my arms wrapped around my legs. There's no music at the moment so it is very quiet. Only a couple of strings of lights are turned on and they're twinkling yellow balls, so it's very dark but there's still some light inside. I have a soft blanket around me. It's peaceful in here.

I have to sit here until I can work out what to do next. I'm surrounded by people but I don't remember feeling so alone. I feel scared of making any move right now because I don't know what the right move is, and I don't trust any direction. I'm hoping that if I can hold out like this for just a little bit longer I will know what to do.

Right now I don't want to talk but I don't want to feel so alone either, so I'm asking for someone to please come and sit quietly next to me until I can move from my ball or I am made to move from it. I don't know when that will be, but I know I can't stay like this forever.

Re: I'm in a nest

Lol @CheerBear for the cat story. I've been trying to respond since you wrote your post but I've been caught up playing with my dog and his squeaky toy. He has been very pushy and insistent we play it together. He's a bit crazy today after being left home all day yesterday. I have laughed a few times trying to outsmart him. He is a smart kelpie who adores (needs) lots of attention and stimulation. He also suffers separation anxiety (was a very malnourished abused rescue dog) so is never out of my sight. I have worn him since we got home last night for leaving him home allllll day. My boys had footy finals yesterday thus the very long day out.

For some reason I thought you'd done DBT @CheerBear. I think you already to lots of the skills naturally. I struggle with lots of it being someone who struggles to not follow what her feelings are telling her.

Today I have woken up and my mood is good which is always a little scary for me as I often panic when I feel good, go figure. It's because I put too many expectations on to make hay while the sun shines and then usually freak out......just part of my circus 😳:face_with_rolling_eyes:.

well I guess it's time to get up properly and start my day. Dog has settled for a bit. I hope all the nesters have an ok day with a few smiles here and there.

Hi @Former-Member I've been following you too on this thread. Hoping today is ok. Sounds interesting what you are studying. I couldn't do behind the camera. I'm such a chicken.

edit

@Phoenix_Rising after I posted this I saw your riding a wave thread. I'm so sorry about my timing. I didn't see your first post. Thinking of you.

Hiya to all other nesters too. 👋💜😊

Re: I'm in a nest

Good morning (nealry afternoon now) @Teej 😊

Your dog sounds like great company. I love how pets can give bring so much love and laughter, even if it is kind of annoying sometimes or at really unfun times.

Did the boys go ok in finals yesterday?

I haven't done DBT. It's never really been presented as an option and haven't hunted fir it either; although it was hinted at the break place by the big white ship who told me 'everything happens for a reason'. I wasn't particularly keen on engaging in any sort of discussion with that ship after that 😉

I've had my defensive pants on about DBT and have shut down most kinds of exposure to it for a while, which I find really interesting considering I think the skills could be helpful and I do seem to use them from what I can tell in ways anyway. Plus I would definitely encourage and support others to try it. This morning I had a confronting but important realisation while I was reading the sample chapter about why that might be. I guess I am so insistent that the underlying cause of my problems are social factors that allow stuff to happen and systemic issues that make it worse, that I have closed myself off to (potentially heaps of) ideas that might help me. I suppose I have a fear that if I did 'get better' through DBT or CBT or any kind of therapy targeted at my head, whether that would tell me that the problem was actually me all along. While I can see that this isn't the case, and wouldn't for a moment think that about anyone else, I guess I am my own worst enemy in this way. It was cool to read that in the chapter though, and quite possibly a bit of a turning point for me. I so badly want to get out there and try to make a difference to the world, but I kind of have to work with what I have at the moment and maybe that means learning how to live more effectively in it. So anything that can help me do that, can't be a bad thing. I have no doubt this will be music to my psychologist's ears.

That was a bit of a ramble. I hope you don't mind me sharing that with you teej. I'm going to hesitantly hit post and hope you can hold on to the fact that it's my own fear and my own self-critic talking about mh own brain, and I don't for a moment think anyone is actually 'the problem'. I am actually looking forward to doing some more reading about it all, with a mind that is perhaps a little more open than before.

I hope you get to enjoy your good mood for a while today. Panic likes to grab hold of me when I start feeling ok too. I think it might be a bit of letting my guard down thing maybe. I wonder if it's the same for you.

Better pack these groceries away and get ready for yoga now 😊

Re: I'm in a nest

Hi @CheerBear

I did 2 very brief scenes in the film yesterday. It was hard not to laugh, so it took a few times to get it right. Acting has never been a desire of mine, at all. I made afternoon tea for daugher and friends and spent alot of the day lying down, feeling exhausted. I am feeling really tired and cranky today. So fed up with feeling like this every day. I really try hard to motivate myself, but just feel exhausted all the time. Tried going for a walk and that just made me feel worse. I really don't know what is wrong with me and feel like giving up. Wake super early with panic attacks. Sorry, I am not good company at all lately. It's really awful feeling tired and cranky all the time. I was brought up t be kind and caring and feeling like this doesn't make me feel kind and caring, lol

I'm glad that you got your desk tidy. Your kitty cat sounds very cute.

Hi @Teej Your dog sounds like great company. Getting a puppy is on my list, but not at the moment.

I'm not studying, just helping my daughter with an assignment. I couldn't study, to be honest. I get way too stressed. add in a few swear words for feeling frustrated at how I feel ######

I can relate to the, "feeling nervous about feeling good". Not that I feel good much, but the few times that I do, a fear comes along to say, hm! I wonder how long/short this will last. Lol, lol, lol, not really lol, but have to laugh at myself, otherwise I'll cry, but I'm too cranky to cry.

Can you tell I'm having a sh## of a day. I had better stop.

I did have a lovely lunch and coffee just now. And I am at a loss as to how to overcome these awful feelings.

Oh dear, sorry for my rant, but I don't feel like retyping a message. This is me today....................

Hi @CheerBear @Teej

I just spent ages replying to your messages and my message disappeared. Grr! Having a really crappy day again. Same every day. Exhausted and cranky.

Did a couple of very short scenes in the film, was hard not to laugh. Acting has never been a desire of mine. Not my thing at all. I'm not studying @Teej I get too stressed.

So fed up with feeling like this every day. Sorry for my negative rant.

Re: I'm in a nest

Hey @Former-Member - sorry to hear your message disappeared. It's so frustrating to lose a post. Glad you were able to type another though. Often I can't.

You don't have to feel sorry for venting. I like that we can come and visit forumland in however way we are at the time. I hope it helps. Feeling down and blue is hard and feeling frustrated that you can't just get out of it, makes me really frustrated too.

I will leave you some cake as I head off 🍰. It doesn't fix anything but it does taste good. I know it looks the same as allllll the rest of the cakes I have left you, but I think this one is my best one yet.

Re: I'm in a nest

Thanks for the cake @CheerBear

Now I'm crying. Hopefully it's a good cry. I don't understand why every day has to be so hard. Day after day, year after year. It really sucks alot. My whole life has been one HUGE struggle. How long can a person keep on going???

I found a photo recently, of me when I was a teenager. It was around the age when I was attacked for the first time, (SA). I think it has stirred up things inside of me. I thouhgt I was "over it" all, but I guess it's only natural that certain things will still trigger things inside. Trying to pretend certainly doesn't bring healing. So I guess I had better accept it and go through the process again.

Good on you for getting out to yoga. I hope that you enjoy it.

I'm glad that you got your desk tidy. Not an easy task, I know.

I sent off the last message in a hurry, as I was side tracked by the phone.

You asked if I am studying @Teej I was helping my daughter with an assignment. And I too hate being in front of a camera. The things I do for her.

You dog sounds like alot of fun Teej. Getting a puppy is on the list, but not at the moment. Somehow, I don't know how, but I need to stop stressing about everything. Waking with panic attacks is tiring, that doesn't help. I can relate to what you were saying about feeling afraid of being happy (or something like that) Teej. I too feel the same when I feel ok, which isn't that often. When I feel ok, a fear comes along and says, hmm! I wonder how long/short this will last. I wish I knew the answer to feeling better. It's not circumstances for me, it's inside of me. I try to think and speak positive etc. Doesn't make sense. I try going for a walk, even at the beach, to try and feel better and often it just makes me feel worse.

Here I go again, raving on. I had better go and get some more washing done.

Thankyou for being there. xoxo
