I'm in a nest

I'm in a nest

I'm making a nest because I'm not feeling very ok and I would like to have a place to retreat to while I ride it out. Everything is chaotic all around and inside me almost all of the time, and I need some time out from it. If I make a nest here I can carry it in my pocket and know it's there for me.

In this nest it's very cosy. There's lots of soft pillows and blankets. Some are made with bright colours, mostly greens, pinks and yellows, and some are made in much deeper shades of purples. The nest is egg shaped so it can be climbed into it but still be a hiding out place. There's lots of fairy lights strung around the nest. They're different shapes and some are warm yellow, some are cool white and some are multi-coloured. They can be adjusted to vary the amount and type of light inside. There's also music which can sometimes be heard throughout the whole nest and sometimes it's playing from the headphones that are always kept on the pile of cushions. There's a lava lamp as well, and squishy glitter balls to squeeze and roll in hands. There are an endless supply of soft creatures to hold or sit with. There's always flowers in the corner and this morning they are gerberas standing tall and proud, on a little wooden table. Next to the vase is a teapot, colourful and quirky, with a collection of teacups and mugs.

Right now I am sitting in a pile of cushions very still with my knees to my chest, my head on my knees and my arms wrapped around my legs. There's no music at the moment so it is very quiet. Only a couple of strings of lights are turned on and they're twinkling yellow balls, so it's very dark but there's still some light inside. I have a soft blanket around me. It's peaceful in here.

I have to sit here until I can work out what to do next. I'm surrounded by people but I don't remember feeling so alone. I feel scared of making any move right now because I don't know what the right move is, and I don't trust any direction. I'm hoping that if I can hold out like this for just a little bit longer I will know what to do.

Right now I don't want to talk but I don't want to feel so alone either, so I'm asking for someone to please come and sit quietly next to me until I can move from my ball or I am made to move from it. I don't know when that will be, but I know I can't stay like this forever.

Re: I'm in a nest

That's a really good idea @Former-Member. I have to go to the supermarket after the meeting (I should really just live there seeing as I'm there all the time - it might also solve the whole housing mess too that way 😛 ), and maybe I will pick up a nice coffee and sit somewhere quietly for a while after it all.

Hope today is good for you.

Re: I'm in a nest

@CheerBear I posted to you in the nest this morning but it appears to have vanished. I am out at the moment but will try to find the post when I get home. I am sure there was nothing moderate-able in it. I hope today goes ok for you.

Re: I'm in a nest

Hi @CheerBear, Here is the post I attempted to post earlier today. Maybe I forgot to hit "post" - I found it sitting in the drafts bit. Silly puddled brain!

Good morning @CheerBear, I will be thinking of you a lot today as you navigate such a tricky day. I'm super glad that I can come along in your handbag. You mentioned that there will be tissues in this handbag with me. It is totally ok to cry if you need to during any of your adventures today and I will sit right beside you while you do...just make sure you put the used tissues in a different part of your handbag!

I'm super glad that you get to have a voice today in this interview. It made my tummy churn when I read how you have felt you have needed to shut up and suck it up since the big bang. That's not ok and people need to know that it's not ok. You and your LF deserve the very best of care and support!

I liked your description of Noodle. My old boy is also one for wanting to help but not knowing quite how. Whereas his brother who went to the Rainbow Bridge last year used to lie sphinx-like on my chest and thus help me regulate my breathing, (P)'s version of helping is to sit on my face and nearly suffocate me. As a total aside and because you are my trusted not-friend...(P) is thirteen years old and terminally ill. He got sick five weeks after his brother went to the Rainbow Bridge in December last year. For a couple of months it seemed that his passing was imminent. However, he is now stable and happy due to my awesome vet. We have no idea how long the current medication regime will keep him happy. When it ceases, I will hold him while the vet helps him make safe passage across the Rainbow Bridge. I don't know why I'm telling you this today @CheerBear, it just feels right. (P)'s passage across the Rainbow Bridge is X. You don't need to say anything - I just wanted to tell you.

Anyway, I super hope today goes as well as it can. I super hope you come out of the with the cool empowered feeling and perhaps that will carry you through your other adventures today. I will be right there beside you, enjoying the positive bits where you have a voice, and stomping around in your handbag angry and frustrated if anyone adds to the muddle of my awesome not-friend.

Remember to breathe: Inhale, exhale, repeat. You've got this.
