I'm in a nest

I'm in a nest

I'm making a nest because I'm not feeling very ok and I would like to have a place to retreat to while I ride it out. Everything is chaotic all around and inside me almost all of the time, and I need some time out from it. If I make a nest here I can carry it in my pocket and know it's there for me.

In this nest it's very cosy. There's lots of soft pillows and blankets. Some are made with bright colours, mostly greens, pinks and yellows, and some are made in much deeper shades of purples. The nest is egg shaped so it can be climbed into it but still be a hiding out place. There's lots of fairy lights strung around the nest. They're different shapes and some are warm yellow, some are cool white and some are multi-coloured. They can be adjusted to vary the amount and type of light inside. There's also music which can sometimes be heard throughout the whole nest and sometimes it's playing from the headphones that are always kept on the pile of cushions. There's a lava lamp as well, and squishy glitter balls to squeeze and roll in hands. There are an endless supply of soft creatures to hold or sit with. There's always flowers in the corner and this morning they are gerberas standing tall and proud, on a little wooden table. Next to the vase is a teapot, colourful and quirky, with a collection of teacups and mugs.

Right now I am sitting in a pile of cushions very still with my knees to my chest, my head on my knees and my arms wrapped around my legs. There's no music at the moment so it is very quiet. Only a couple of strings of lights are turned on and they're twinkling yellow balls, so it's very dark but there's still some light inside. I have a soft blanket around me. It's peaceful in here.

I have to sit here until I can work out what to do next. I'm surrounded by people but I don't remember feeling so alone. I feel scared of making any move right now because I don't know what the right move is, and I don't trust any direction. I'm hoping that if I can hold out like this for just a little bit longer I will know what to do.

Right now I don't want to talk but I don't want to feel so alone either, so I'm asking for someone to please come and sit quietly next to me until I can move from my ball or I am made to move from it. I don't know when that will be, but I know I can't stay like this forever.

Re: I'm in a nest

I thought that might be the case with the inital @Phoenix_Rising. I was going to ask whether you had a bit of an idea how long you'd give it, thinking you probably did.

I think you'll have a gut feeling about it after the session. Then you have a couple of sessions to test that feeling out. I'm glad A is still there with you through this too.

We had heaps of fun tonight thanks. The LF loved it. It's scary starting to be part of something (community) that I know can be taken away so quickly, but it feels good to be doing it anyway. I have to try at some point I guess, which is what I am doing.

Hope you sleep well tonight

Re: I'm in a nest

Hi @CheerBear,

Finally getting back to you about your earlier post. I love the image of you being woken by head butts from Noodle and cuddles from LF. What a wonderful way to come back to consciousness. I would be waking with a smile.

I hear you about your concerns having built up for some time with your psych. The issues you talk about are all valid. I also relate to being overwhelmed by too many things at once pushing us out of our comfort zone. I get the 'why bother trying' feeling too fairly often, especially under pressure or stress, I just seem to collapse inside in some way and then become fairly useless for anything. It is indeed a tricky process trying to work through and rise above our troubles.

So glad the crafty group went well.

Re: I'm in a nest

Goodnight @CheerBear. I super loved that picture that you posted of me with Squishy and Mr Seahorse. Your fluffy blanket is SUPER snuggly. Today has certainly been an...experience. (A) wasn't able to call today but she did reassure me in an email that she isn't going anywhere. That stability means the world to me. It is an absurd situation that she is the one I'm seeing through victims services, yet we both know I need to look elsewhere to get help with the actual trauma stuff. I have no idea where "elsewhere" is right now...but I know I need time to re-group before I try to figure it out.

Poor Lunar...I'm really not sure what she must have been thinking this morning while she was trying to navigate a call with a screaming turtle who was sitting in the same room as the therapist. Methinks I may not be the only one who found today a distinctly challenging day. Oh well, only two hours and this day will be gone forever and a brand new one will dawn. Phew, thank goodness we don't live on Venus!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you for being the best not-friend a turtle could ever wish for. Night.

Re: I'm in a nest

Good morning (probably afternoon by the time I hit post) in the nest.

I'm feeling so so blue today. It's been lingering around, but yesterday it really came out during an appointment with my counsellor. I was hit with a massive surge of overwhelming sadness when I was talking about that stuck but not knowing what lies beyond stuck anymore feeling. I thought I understood heaps about the long term impact of fv and the loss and grief that comes with it. Something I completely overlooked and am now painfully experiencing, is the loss of my dreams, goals, plans and hope for the future. I am guessing this happens for heaps of 'us' following this stuff, but it seems so missing from people's awareness of it all. It's totally crushing. I think I can bounce back from the loss of the people (most of the people at least), I will make a new home one day, the 'stuff' didn't matter much anyway, the networks can be made again, the 'places' I don't have anymore can be replaced with new ones and the memories can be carried with me and no-one can take them away. But where I belong in the world, where I am going to go, what I am doing with my life, what I want my life to look like - those things are harder for me to find and feel harder for me to ever reach again, especially while I'm still so stuck trying to get some very basic and essential needs (like the house) sorted.

I shook it off as well as I could but it came back again this morning when I was on the phone with my CM. We were sorting out some business with the missing housing organisation and after it she asked how I was really travelling. I couldn't answer and no words happened for a moment. It was so strange. Then I felt that throat closing lump rising and started big time crying. I'm so lost and so stuck.

I'm doubting so much about so much at the moment. I'm so frustrated at the world and the way things have played out, and I am so frustrated that I can't seem to get myself out of this mess. I'm even more frustrated at myself following last weeks appointment. I want to feel better again, for a long time, not just for an hour or a day or a couple of days at best. I'm trying. I really really am. But it's not changing 😞

I've got a mountain of washing staring at me and I am struggling to find any kind of motivation to actually do it. I just want to curl up as a burrito until whatever thing that is going on passes. I did get my hair cut today and that's something I feel really good about. Being that it is a really short style (level 2 in parts), if I leave it too long the style is more 'shaggy mop head'. Getting my hair back feels like a good start to getting me back up and out of the current stuck.

@Phoenix_Rising - thank you for being the best not-friend a cheery but sometimes very sad bear could have. I hope you're enjoying statistics this morning. I don't think I've ever been able to say that with any genuine belief that anyone would actually be enjoying a stats session until now 😛 I can only imagine how tricky it might be to be working to help someone become a white boat, especially after yesterdays mess. I'm hugely struggling to imagine being a part of any of it. My break place friend has been hurt terribly this week by the system too. I'm riding alonside them on their wave too, desperately trying to give hope that good is out there, but scared of what might lie in the way until it can be found. It's not ok that it happens so often and to so many.

I read in your wave that you were missing (K) a lot last night (early this morning). I understand how important the relationship you had with her was and why it is so hard to have it missing from your life. I will listen anytime you want to talk about her. I hope today is better for you (this is something that given how bad yesterday was, I have genuine belief that it might be able to happen).

Maggie, Mudsum, 5-HT, Mazarita, Shaz, Teej and all - hope everyone is going ok.

Re: I'm in a nest

Hi @CheerBear,

How are you feeling now? The stuck feeling is super super super tough. I can definitely relate to this bit that you said: But where I belong in the world, where I am going to go, what I am doing with my life, what I want my life to look like - those things are harder for me to find and feel harder for me to ever reach again. I super wish I had an answer for you...and for myself.

I guess right now we are stuck in the mud. I'm glad that if I have to be stuck in the mud, it can be here in Forum Land.

Did you feel any better after the super big cry to your CM? I generally feel better after a cry. It feels to me like a case of "better out than in." I imagine that when I cry, I'm getting all the big feelings out and then they can't swirl around in my head and hurt my brain. I'm not exactly sure if that's the way things work, but I like the image of it. It makes me feel ok about crying in that super giant way that feels like it is tearing your soul into a bazillion pieces and will never ever end.

I totally hear your frustration about working so hard at trying and yet not seeing things change. It is so so SO hard. I think some people at this point would tell you "you need to be patient, these things take time." I super don't like those people!!!! My standard response to those people now is "it has been twenty-one years, exactly how much more time should it take." So...I won't say that.

I'm glad you were able to do the nice thing of getting your hair done today. Granted, to me, getting my hair done is a necessary evil...but I can hear that it is something that brightens your day. Is your hair still orange?

Hee hee...it just occurred to me that the highlight of your day was getting your hair done, and the highlight of my day was doing statistics with someone. Methinks one of us is a bit odd @CheerBear...I'm going with it being you.

It was super hard this morning anticipating the call with the stats student. It definitely feels weird working with a psychologist in this context when so many have caused so much grief in that other context. This student already is a white ship...she is working towards being a bigger white ship.

The session ended up being really cool though. She was so nice and easy to talk to. I think maybe she might be one of the good ones. One thing she said triggered me though. She mentioned that she has to do a placement in a hospital. I immediately felt my stomach tighten and I had to super work at managing the big feeling in my tummy. It really again made me question whether I could ever realistically entertain the idea of getting through the process of becoming a psychologist. I actually think I could do a good job once through it...but right now I really can't see how I could get through the process. And thus we seem to be back to the idea of being stuck don't we!

It was odd this morning with the gigantic wave of grief over (K). I woke up and it just smashed me with super gigantic floods of tears. I cried and cried and cried and CRIED. Being able to "tell someone" here in Forum Land in real time super helped. Even though I didn't need any sort of response, just knowing that at least the moderator would read it, super helped me to feel heard.

Sigh...I guess we may be stuck for a while longer yet @CheerBear. Gee, you'd think after two whole yoga classes our brains would be fixed wouldn't you!

Super big thank you for that photo of me with Squishy and Mr Seahorse in your fluffy blanket. I super love that. I went to Lunar's birthday party today but I took your blanket with me and stayed snuggled under it. It really is a super snuggly blanket isn't it.

Alright my not-friend, I guess we will have to just keep sitting with the stuck feeling for a while. You know one phrase I like? When I find myself thinking "it will be ok," I try to tell myself "it's ok right now." I'm not sure where I heard that. It might be out of the DBT manual. I really like it because it helps me to focus on the present rather than feeling all that pain and despair over the very muddled and uncertain future.

Re: I'm in a nest

We had a pretry bad weather night here and a couple of little black outs. My phone was lingering somewhere too close to 0%battery when it happened so I freaked and had it sitting on charge not touching it as soon as the power came on, hence my sudden disappearance last night @Phoenix_Rising.

Re: I'm in a nest

My thumb likes to hit post too soon at the moment, so I'll just keep going from here.

I laughed with the yoga class call @Phoenix_Rising. I think I will pull out TBKTS and read the yoga chapter before Monday.

I'm not sure I felt better after the big cry because I had to switch it off really quickly and get my hair cut. I was in the car park of the shopping centre and once I hung up walked straight into a busy big place full of people who seemed so 'normal'. I know everyone is 'normal' and what people look like is not always how they are, but when I am feeling so muddled about the world, I find it so hard to be around lots of people who seem to be ok in it. I had a long chat with my super cheery happy young hairdresser, all about shows and characters of episodes we're watching and who we like and don't, and that helped me feel a bit less overwhelmed with my own stuff for a while.

I'm really glad your stats session was cool 🙂 It is funny that we were both enjoying something that the other would find so unenjoyable. I keep rubbing my hands over the short parts and loving the feeling. It's like velcro under a beanie though!

I slept terribly last night and am so glad it is a new day today. I'm off to a crafty group again this morning and then a meeting with my mh worker. I'm nervous about the last one. I think it is important to tell her where my head is but I am scared. I'm going to just see how I go with this one.

Hope you have a good day today 🙂
