I'm making a nest because I'm not feeling very ok and I would like to have a place to retreat to while I ride it out. Everything is chaotic all around and inside me almost all of the time, and I need some time out from it. If I make a nest here I can carry it in my pocket and know it's there for me.
In this nest it's very cosy. There's lots of soft pillows and blankets. Some are made with bright colours, mostly greens, pinks and yellows, and some are made in much deeper shades of purples. The nest is egg shaped so it can be climbed into it but still be a hiding out place. There's lots of fairy lights strung around the nest. They're different shapes and some are warm yellow, some are cool white and some are multi-coloured. They can be adjusted to vary the amount and type of light inside. There's also music which can sometimes be heard throughout the whole nest and sometimes it's playing from the headphones that are always kept on the pile of cushions. There's a lava lamp as well, and squishy glitter balls to squeeze and roll in hands. There are an endless supply of soft creatures to hold or sit with. There's always flowers in the corner and this morning they are gerberas standing tall and proud, on a little wooden table. Next to the vase is a teapot, colourful and quirky, with a collection of teacups and mugs.
Right now I am sitting in a pile of cushions very still with my knees to my chest, my head on my knees and my arms wrapped around my legs. There's no music at the moment so it is very quiet. Only a couple of strings of lights are turned on and they're twinkling yellow balls, so it's very dark but there's still some light inside. I have a soft blanket around me. It's peaceful in here.
I have to sit here until I can work out what to do next. I'm surrounded by people but I don't remember feeling so alone. I feel scared of making any move right now because I don't know what the right move is, and I don't trust any direction. I'm hoping that if I can hold out like this for just a little bit longer I will know what to do.
Right now I don't want to talk but I don't want to feel so alone either, so I'm asking for someone to please come and sit quietly next to me until I can move from my ball or I am made to move from it. I don't know when that will be, but I know I can't stay like this forever.
Hi @Maggie. I read your post and went 'oh wow' that sounds fabulous driving to see fresh snow. I think it would lift my spirits too. Good for you for doing that. 💜🤗💐

@Phoenix_Rising your day sounds like fun! I love that you went on a ferry adventure 🙂 I'm glad your changing the world adventure wasn't too scary this morning. If you're able to and wanting to share any more about what type of changing the world thing you did was, I would love to hear. I totally understand if you don't want to/can't, too.
@Former-Member - it's so great to see you 🙂 Grrrr centrelink. Big time. I'm really happy to hear that your psychiatrist appointment was good today. I can't imagine anyone who had a mishap needing or benefiting from any form of punishment. Is your care coordinator like a case manager? It's good that they were on the same page too.
Woohoo to frog socks, eeyore socks @Faith-and-Hope😄 , duck socks and penguin socks! I'm thinking that it is probably little surprise that my favourite pair of socks ever are my very long rainbow toe socks. I often hide an outrageous and bright looking pair of socks under my otherwise very dark clothes.
@Maggie - great to hear from you too 🙂 Your trip to the snow sounds awesome! Your friend is lucky to have you to go on an adventure like that with!
My day today was a day. I had a really helpful meeting with my MH worker this morning. We spoke about how hard I find it to do any kind of changing the world stuff (which is what I am most passionate about after the mum thing). I can only spend a few moments working on my 'thing' before I am blown away with massive grief, loss, anger, sadness feelings. I have tried a couple of times over the last couple of weeks, and can't do it. I started working on my list of things to discuss at the interview with the housing organisation last night and found exactly the same thing happened. I then get hit with totally hopeless feelings wondering how I will ever be able to survive actual work (or even study) again, if minutes here at home can take hours to recover from. She listened and seemed to understand and for that I am thankful.
After that I went to Spotlight and finally got to spend my generous random gift from my no-idea-who relative, because the delicious yarn I am using on my project went on sale this week. I got to pick it all up today which was seriously fun! They're so soft and fluffy and the most lovely colours.
Hope all of you have a good night tonight
💛

Re: I'm in a nest
Sounds like you've had a very productive day @CheerBear. I'm so glad you got your new yarn. I can imagine your excitement and can't wait to see your next project.
My care coordinator is my case manager yes. However they don't necessarily have appointments with me. They are just the person that coordinates my care in community mental health. They sit in on my psychiatrist appointments and then work out if there any programs that would be beneficial for me to attend etc. This one though wants to work with me on DBT a bit too so I may have a little more contact. At this stage I have a ring in time one a week if I have any DBT questions. She is also going to be part of my DBT group so that will be helpful.
I really hope your housing muddle is sorted soon. It's so hard having this hanging on. I would feel incredibly frustrated and angry at the world over it too. 💜🤗💐

Re: I'm in a nest
That explains it well thanks @Former-Member. I'm trying to imagine having someone I didn't have a lot of contact with in charge of coordinating my care and sitting in on psych appointments. It sounds like it could work well though, if they get to know you and are able to find things that might helpful or supportive. Even through hiccups and mishaps it seems as if you're able to bounce back and stay on track with things a bit more at the moment (i think/hope). I hope things keep moving in the right direction for you.
I'm looking forward to sharing a photo of my new project. It's going to live on my bed as my other one went to live somewhere very special that I visit and that feels important to me. I can see this one being passed down to a fish one day already 🙂

Hi @CheerBear and other nesters. Feels like ages since I've visited. Looking forward to seeing your new crochet project, CB! I went to an art group for the first time today, enjoyed it and the time flew. Overall it's been a pretty good day. Grateful. Sending good wishes to everyone here.

Re: I'm in a nest
Good morning in the nest 🙂
@Mazarita hi 🙂 It's been a while since I've sat with my morning coffee waiting for the sun and posted to you. I'm not sure I'll see the sun rise this morning because it looks like it will be another very grey day here. There's a street lamp at the front of the house and in the light that it is casting I can see the rain. It's really fine and I can't really see it anywhere else except in that light. It looks a bit like snow. It's cold enough here that I think we deserve to get snow and every winter I wish we were a little higher up so we could at least get something fun like snow to make living in the freezing feel worth it!
Awesome stuff with the art group Mazarita! Is that something you'll keep going to? Art group would be so fun! Time seems to fly when I'm doing something I enjoy or am immersed in.
After hunting around for a while to find my next big big project, I settled on the same pattern as the other one because I couldn't find anything as nice. This one is being made in really special yarn though, and needed lots of calculations to work out how much of each colour I'd need and where I can do some funky things with highlight colours now I know what I'm doing. I rarely plan crafty projects so it will be good to see the difference (if any) with some brains behind it. I'm at part 6 of 18 so I'm getting there.
Hope your day ahead is good Mazarita 🙂
And hope everyone else here/reading has something good in their day too

Re: I'm in a nest
I'm snuggling down. I spent the day with a friend from the break place, in hospital today. I'm so sad that they're in a muddle, though I have been aware of the extent of it for a couple of weeks now so it wasn't a surprise. They are doing everything they can to be unstuck and I have faith they can get through it.
I'm totally shattered about the treatment that I have heard about from friend, that I get as I've experienced it too, and that I had to sit and watch happen today and couldn't fight. I felt completely powerless and unable to do anything because I feared making it worse. There is no doubt that it has created more mess.
I want to vent about it because it's eating me up but I don't want to add to any fear of seeking help because I am sure it's helpful for some. I'll sit quietly here knowing that it isn't right though and it isn't fair. It's not right that so much bad happens in places where good should be happening.
I wish I could do something about it 😞

Re: I'm in a nest
Sorry you are feeling crappy about your friends support or lack there of. I'm glad she had you for support today. I bet that made a difference to her. It does suck when the system gets it so wrong. I've had a much better run lately which gives me hope that things will improve but I know there is still a long way to go. I expected to be treated badly in ED on Monday but had an amazingly supportive experience in the end. They helped to lessen my shame hugely too. I hope you can find peace with it. Sending best wishes to you and your friend. 💜🤗

@CheerBear I am lying on the floor with my phone so this is a quick response. I will listen if you want to vent. The system sucks...though as you say, it seems to work for some. Once you and I have fixed our brains, we will change the world. 😊
