Craft Corner

Craft Corner

A place to chat and share all things crafty!

What's your favourite craft? Is there anything you're working on at the moment? What would you like to create/work on (I have heaps of "one day" project patterns and ideas that I know I will probably never get around to, but it's nice to imagine)? I'd love to hear!

I have absolutely no artistic side to me and stick figures are the extent of my drawing ability, but I really enjoy learning and trying out new crafts. I learnt crochet during a stay in a prevention and recovery centre and it's something I pick up often when I am feeling blue, I need a distraction or I'm just a little bored. I've tried paper crafts too, although I didn't really get far with anything. Sharpies are some of my best friends and when I find my hands need to move I have a collection of smooth rocks that I draw on (different coloured circles) which often relaxes me. Sometimes I dust off the sewing machine and sew as well. I walk around spotlight for a fun outing 😉

Looking forward to hearing from you all 🙂

Re: Craft Corner

@CheerBear I found this link that has the quantities for the Scheepjies colour crafter yarn itself.

Is that a help with converting amounts? Maybe?

Sophie's Universe in Scheepjies colour crafter yarn

More info found elsewhere:

This colour pack is for the Rainbow Colour Crafter version of Sophie’s Universe (Medium). These are the yarns included in this pack:

  • Brussel (2004) x 1
  • Sittard (1130) x 1
  • Den Bosch (1241) x 1
  • Tilburg (1083) x 1
  • Urk (1034) x 4
  • Delftzijl (1822) x 2
  • Hengelo (1084) x 2
  • Meppel (1061) x 1
  • Heerlen (1432) x 1

Den Helder (1068) x 1
Included in the pack you will find the colours for each round in Scheepjes Colour Crafter. If you do not have 33 meters of Heerlen left at the start of Round 78, you won’t have enough to complete the round, but you can use Delftzijl or Brussel for this round instead. You should have more than enough yarn for all the other colours.

Conversion suggestions for the colour crafter yarn to other yarn brands. I can vouch for the StyleCraft Special DK (one of my favourites) also a few of the King Cole (another favourite brand) choices if you need more specifics I can provide.

If you choose a UK supplier LoveKnitting or Crochet have more reliable delivery service, the D company have been having catastophic issues with delivery, I've avoided them until I hear it's fixed.

Hopefully, this will give you some options - there are pricing differences worth looking at for free postage from LoveK, plus other discount potentials. Price and postage are always worth comparing.

Must go, thank you all for your kind wishes, feeling like I can probably cope again.

Will respond better tomorrow or later.

Re: Craft Corner

Amazing thanks @Former-Member! I was going to try and attack (that's my version of anything maths-ish) that colour chart over the next couple of days and work out sizes etc. I will definitely look at Stylecraft special DK now and stay away from the D company which I would have probably used. So helpful thanks!

Glad you're feeling like you can cope again. Thinking of you. Night ❤

Re: Craft Corner

@CheerBear so glad I mentioned it. I checked their reviews again this morning and they are still having the worst experiences with their carrying company. They changed carriers a while ago, and I think their contract with them will have to expire before anything can be done about it. There were other changes in the company too, and it's gone bad since then, which is so sad because they were my alternate go-to for yarns and so so good back then.

The LK or LC place (in essence the same place) are simply superb! Love their readily identifiable parcels when they arrive (all part of the joy of buying from them), such attention to detail and love the little 'extra' touches they provide too. Don't want to spoil the surprise if you've never dealt with them before.

Hope today is a good one for all the crafters

Re: Craft Corner

@Catcakes thank you for your kindess. It's so funny peculiar, not so much funny haha, how different things mean such different things to each of us. The other day someone said to me how whatever it was they were doing should be 'a walk in the park' for me to do too. Well, I laughed aloud at them (they should have known better than to use that type of language given the situation we were in) and then went on to explain what a walk in the park meant to me.

It means there is no safety what so ever, I am an open target, something like a sitting duck to be aimed at and taken down. The intimation that it's 'unlikely' to happen is irrelevent as they do not know the circumstances behind why I feel that way.

Once upon a time I could savour going for a walk in the park, meanering through gardens and trees and truly enjoying the outing, playing with the children and so on, but those days are no more.

How time changes us all. sorry to be maudlin ... I'll go get showered and dressed and do some more on my quickly developing tatting edged hankie. I have to look up some of my tatting patterns to decide on how much width of edging I'm going to do.

also figuring out how to make a shaped tatted front insertion for a top. Things to do to shift my mental focus!

Re: Craft Corner

Good morning crafty people!

I'm a little excited because, after spending way too much time trying to work out what to use and where to get it for my next big project, I finally placed an order for yarn. It ended up being a wing-it job as I couldn't do the maths. It's the first time I've ordered yarn online and it will be the first time I use cotton for a project too. @Former-Member I had to choose between not using the Scheepjes yarn I've been staring at for ages and using the D company. I may have made a big mistake as I spent forever trying to find an alternate yarn I was happy with and couldn't so I ended up using them. I'm in no rush to make it (though I am so excited about it and would start now if I had it with me) so I can fluff around if there are hiccups with shipping. And I will return to this post to remind myself of these words if/when it goes belly up 😆

I have a couple of little projects to finish up before I start so that's what I'll be doing while I wait.

Hope everyone has a good/good enough day ☺

Re: Craft Corner

@Former-Member and all the crafties I feel very happy I have just finished two scarves. A big bulky one (which is a bit wonky because I some how added on stiches along the way ...) and a finger knitted thin one which I really enjoyed doing too.

Not using needles just my fingers was hard at first reminded me of the kids game cats cradle we used to play (was never good at it back then either lol). Anyway I hope everyone is having a great dayl Love gp xx

Oh btw here is the finger knitted instructions that I followed in case anyone is interested.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1947tTNvBDA

Re: Craft Corner

Hello Crafters!

wow @Bunniekins that finger knitting is realy cool! I will ahve to try that myself, I think I have a beigey coloured yarn that is an orphan ball that would work wonders done up like that!

Thank you so much for sharing that - I've seen, and done a wee bit of arm knitting (oh, my arms get too tired for that) just to try it, but not seen that before. So very cool for so many different applications!

Go you finished your scarves already! Are there pictures?

I've taken a bit of time out to play a game with my flat mate as they have time off and we haven't played that game for ages. I completely missed Friday Feast it was so much fun, sorry @CheerBear

Have been going through my antique pattern library tatting patterns to find a nice edging for the white hankie and it's been so inspiring. I want to make them all! I thought I had found the one, a lovely string of daisies, but tried a practice piece and it's too large for the fineness of the hankie, so I'm still looking as I've a couple more cms to go before I'm finished the first round.

OOH, orders have been made for yarn to be delivered! So exciting! I'm sure you will have sorted the amounts of the yarn well enough @CheerBear

I have lots of troubles working out amounts as I make larger than expected sizes and wing it on pattern design, so I always over order by quite a bit. That's why I like working top down on garments if I can, they can always go longer that way.

It is possible that you will find the company perfectly suitable, and if it is working well on deliveries to Australia I'd be most interested, as they have some yarn I can only get there. It's certainly a good opportunity to finish up the little projects and sortings and tidyings so you can focus big time on Sophie when the yarn arrives. What did you decide to go with if I can ask? Of course you might not want to and that's okay too.

Happy crafting on this lovely quiet long weekend!

Re: Craft Corner

@Former-Member Hi SunShower I wont show the two scarves as they are both rather distinct and I would like to keep my anonyity. But the big one is kind of like this not quite so big and the smaller one is like this

Re: Craft Corner

That's beautiful @Bunniekins! and yes, i understand about the distinctive looks.

Go you! I'll bet you are feeling pretty darned proud of yourself, and rightly so! you did that really fast too.

Any plans for the next project yet?
