Craft Corner

Craft Corner

A place to chat and share all things crafty!

What's your favourite craft? Is there anything you're working on at the moment? What would you like to create/work on (I have heaps of "one day" project patterns and ideas that I know I will probably never get around to, but it's nice to imagine)? I'd love to hear!

I have absolutely no artistic side to me and stick figures are the extent of my drawing ability, but I really enjoy learning and trying out new crafts. I learnt crochet during a stay in a prevention and recovery centre and it's something I pick up often when I am feeling blue, I need a distraction or I'm just a little bored. I've tried paper crafts too, although I didn't really get far with anything. Sharpies are some of my best friends and when I find my hands need to move I have a collection of smooth rocks that I draw on (different coloured circles) which often relaxes me. Sometimes I dust off the sewing machine and sew as well. I walk around spotlight for a fun outing 😉

Looking forward to hearing from you all 🙂

Re: Craft Corner

the bottle green sounds so lovely @Bunniekins

What did you think of making a nice wide plain stitch scarf for him? Would he wear it? What might he wear? Slippers maybe?

What ideas do you have?

(Have to go get myself soem things sorted, will check emails and get back later to you.)

Re: Craft Corner

@Former-Member Hmmmm ... he would wear a scarf because where he lives is so cold. I could give it ago and see if I can not drop any stitches this time ... I dont mind wearing a wonky scarf but I dont want him wearing one.

Re: Craft Corner

@Bunniekins If you check the pattern carefully every row, and if you find mistakes, you can undo them or fix them whatever the issue is, that way.

Then the scarf witll be perfectly done and not wonky. I liked that Wool and the Gang video for that sized scarf although I don't recall how many rows/ cms long it was. The Garter Stitch one, just rows of knit stitch.

what do you think? could you check each row and fix if you made any booboos? It's worth it to do so.

Re: Craft Corner

You're doing so very well @Bunniekins that taking that step will really improve your finished work, and your sense of self and achievement. Sure it gets tedious sometime, but it's a worthy tedium to have a delightfully finished item that you have made with your own hands!

I've recently realised that when I start to stress I begin to count in my head and that helps with reducing stress, well, I've know that part for some time, what I've recently connected the stress reduction to is to counting stitches while tatting and crocheting! Especially the Tunisian Crochet needs the stitches to be counted in every row, forward and back, so as to keep the correct stitch count.

Crochet often needs stitch numbers to be counted as you go too. Tatting definately needs the knots counted as you work to form designs. It was only the other night that I put 2 and 2 together!

I can use counting to reduce stress because it's a weirdo link to my stress reducing crafting. I'm quite thrilled at that discovery, because a couple of years ago one psych medicated me for the counting as he thought it a problem that would lead to worse things. (Silly him).

So, what I'm using a roundabout way to say is that there are options for keeping stitch count on needles:

count each row at the end.
count each stitch as you knit
use stitch markers at every 10 stitches to keep an easy check on numbers and not lose count.

(knitting stitch markers are usually metal or plastic circles used as place markers that get passed from needle to needle as you work each row) you can make them yourself too.

You're doing awesomely Pea. simply awesomely. ((((( @Bunniekins )))))

Re: Craft Corner

So great to hear you have been having fun with your flatmate @Former-Member! ☺

I had a really good look at your suggestions including the other places to purchase and some of the yarn options. In the end I checked some reviews and it looks as if most of the problems are not with the international shipping so much, so hopefully it will be ok. I'll let you know how I get on. I'm soooo excited because I chose a mix of Scheepjes Sunkissed and Cotton 8. I've been dreaming of these ones 😊 My big blankets kept me going at times when I didn't think I could go on and I really miss having them to work on. It's so worth it to me to have something like this which I have a feeling you might be able to understand.

Hope you're enjoying the feeling inspired feelings. A string of daisies sounds lovely. Bit of a bummer it didn't fit well, though I can imagine you'll find something pretty nice to do instead.

Very cool video and idea @Bunniekins! Thanks for sharing. Go you with finishing your scarves! That's an awesome feeling (just like the "oooh what can I do next" one that often follows for me). Those colours sound lovely for making something for your son ☺

Re: Craft Corner

@CheerBear those choices are amazing! They are exactly the types of colour ways I choose for big projects. Totally love love love the Sunkissed. and to mix it with the Cotton 8 - perfect.

I will most interested in how you go as I could award myself some of that later in the year I think. Truly drool worthy! LOL Oh how I hope it all comes good for you, for both of us!

Sophie's Universe will look awesome in that! and be snuggly and soft too.

off to some snacks and some tv watching now.

good night wishes to all.

Re: Craft Corner

thank you @CheerBear @Bunniekins @outlander for clearing my notifications.

Your kindness is helping to clear away the horrors of seeing that word in my notifications. I cannot make the 'likes' on the other thing go away and it has distressed me beyond coping with.

Not for likes, no, or at least I can't find it. Have turned off the things I can @outlander

Is there a way to turn off 'likes'?
