Craft Corner

Craft Corner

A place to chat and share all things crafty!

What's your favourite craft? Is there anything you're working on at the moment? What would you like to create/work on (I have heaps of "one day" project patterns and ideas that I know I will probably never get around to, but it's nice to imagine)? I'd love to hear!

I have absolutely no artistic side to me and stick figures are the extent of my drawing ability, but I really enjoy learning and trying out new crafts. I learnt crochet during a stay in a prevention and recovery centre and it's something I pick up often when I am feeling blue, I need a distraction or I'm just a little bored. I've tried paper crafts too, although I didn't really get far with anything. Sharpies are some of my best friends and when I find my hands need to move I have a collection of smooth rocks that I draw on (different coloured circles) which often relaxes me. Sometimes I dust off the sewing machine and sew as well. I walk around spotlight for a fun outing 😉

Looking forward to hearing from you all 🙂

I don't recall a time when I wasn't interested in making things, and I have always been an avid reader. So, when I'd see something in a book, a comic (we got them only at xmas in the stocking), or a magazine someone gave us, I'd want to know HOW? WHY?

Short answer ( i was writing an epic and realise that wasn't needed) I think so.

If it wasnt' from need, it was because I wanted to make something different for myself, or the kids, or to earn money, or to teach others so we could all share the knowledge.

So many reasons, but yes, I think so @Bunniekins

Sleep well @Bunniekins dream of wooly yarns and what you can make them into!

OH, how exciting for you @MoonGal! There is nothing quite like making something that is just for you that no one else has a copy of .

When I read aobut your trekking elephants, I thought, well if you really, really like it, would it work for you to cut it in half and just turn the recalcitrant elephants the other way, and sew across the shoulders?

I have done that myself and found it to be effective. If you wanted to, and it worked with the fabric and your purpose for the garment, you could even make the shoulder join a feature by adding in something like a tape or braid for effect. Maybe?

Isn't it wonderful how the old knowledge comes back when we sit down to do things! your staffy would look so classy in the new custom made dressing gown! Stretch sewing knowledge is so very useful.

I like your idea of taking a week for creative work. I will see about sorting a week like that for myself to catch up on the sewing jobs needing attention so I can actually get to my story writing that has been on hold for far too long. Thank you for the inspiration MoonGal! (No social media here, but lots of worry about the state of the world and other things)

How nice you have an aware GP! Very cool.

Secretly, @MoonGal @Bunniekins I think we can wear anything we damned well please, within reason of laws and decency. I suppose I do, I wear what pleases me, not what fashion says I should.

Happy crafting everyone - time for other things now. Rest well when you do.

Good Morning Crafters! @Bunniekins @CheerBear @MoonGal @Catcakes @Shaz51 @Former-Member @Former-Member @Phoenix_Rising @Teej @Snowie @OhanaSystem @BlueBay and anyone else who sits and rests in here at any time.

Here's hoping all our craft projects are going well.

@CheerBear I hope your lemon tree is providing the best of comforting atmospheres and your crocheting projects are relaxing for you.

@Catcakes Are you able to take your knitting with you on your trips, and do you get time to work on it there? I hope you are getting some time for yourself.

I decided to do something entirely different last night. I am crocheting around a handkerchief for myself. have not done any crochet with such tiny thread for longer than I can recall. This is my tatting thread! I found the embroidered hanky in the stash and decided to give it a go. Used the new Edgit tool (pointy ended tiny wee crochet hook) to make the edging on the hemmed white lawn hanky too. Now am deciding what edge to do. I'll take it with me today in case I don't get to go to the shop or have longer to wait at the doc for my flat mate.

What's your craft story for today?

Okay, off for now, Happy crafting everyone.

@Former-Member I have placed my orders for my yarn and hopefully it will arrive next week so that I can start knitting. I am really looking forward to the distraction and hopefully will be able to complete a couple of scarves that look like scarves this time around lol.
