Craft Corner

Craft Corner

A place to chat and share all things crafty!

What's your favourite craft? Is there anything you're working on at the moment? What would you like to create/work on (I have heaps of "one day" project patterns and ideas that I know I will probably never get around to, but it's nice to imagine)? I'd love to hear!

I have absolutely no artistic side to me and stick figures are the extent of my drawing ability, but I really enjoy learning and trying out new crafts. I learnt crochet during a stay in a prevention and recovery centre and it's something I pick up often when I am feeling blue, I need a distraction or I'm just a little bored. I've tried paper crafts too, although I didn't really get far with anything. Sharpies are some of my best friends and when I find my hands need to move I have a collection of smooth rocks that I draw on (different coloured circles) which often relaxes me. Sometimes I dust off the sewing machine and sew as well. I walk around spotlight for a fun outing 😉

Looking forward to hearing from you all 🙂

Re: @Re: Craft Corner

@Former-Member I thought for myself but then i might make it for my son who is coming out for a holiday. i could do both. I suppose it would be plain yarn ... I could try a fancy stich but believe me it cannot be too complicated ... something of youtube would be great (I will have to have a look and get back to you on that). I suppose I will have to think of both our colouring and clothes that we would wear in the winter months .... would that be right?

They are good ideas @Bunniekins.

And, starting the scarf for your son now gives you plenty of time to get it done without having to feel rushed etc.too. Nice thinking.

YOu could indeed have 2 on the go, hehe, I have lots of things on the go, possibley too many, but they either get finished or morph into something more usable,so in the end it all works out fine.

Do you have a favourite colour?

Does your son have a favourite colour from childhood, and, would he, if you know, still favour that colour now?

@Former-Member I think black for my son would suit his clothing. Kind of goes with everything thing and as I am now officially a mature woman I am thinking purple ... dont they say older women can wear purple due to their skin tone?? I have lots of scarves I love them. I like big chunky scarves with chunky wool.

Re: @Re: Craft Corner

Purple it is then! and black, i like black myself. Used to wear purple but have changed.

I'm not sure about the 'mature women can wear purple', you could be right as I so see a lot of mature women wearing it. I do like to use scarves as that added bit of brightness that I can see to brighten my day, no good if I cant' see it I reckon.

Wool it sounds like it is too then. Can it be a wool blended with say acrylic, or would you prefer a pure wool?

do you favour a particular brand of wool?

here's a selection of chunky wool in purple

I thnk you said this was the place you wanted to use? do let me know if I have that wrong, please.

If it weren't for the privacy issues, I could send you a recommendation voucher myself. Multiple people in the house can be signed up too, and get the vouchers, and then you can use them for your own purchases, I think you still can anyway.

Re: @Re: Craft Corner

@Former-Member I think I really need a darker purple. I have found a dark claret chunky style which should suit my skin tone and be easy to knit I will do that and will knit my son a black or dark green scarf ... he would like that. Ooops son 2 is up I better check on how he is going bbs.

Re: @Re: Craft Corner

I am about to get the sewing machine out myself i bought the cutest fabric to make my Staffy a dressing gown (night coat) it is navy all over, with green, red and grey cartoon monsters on it. I need to make the pattern myself because being a tall staffy she is all head and chest and off the peg coats are always too skinny at the front. I looked up on line how to make a ribbed neck and that bought back some sewing knowledge from a very very long time ago! Wish me luck.

I also bought 1500mm of a material in rayon that I was going to make a 'sarong' out of by hemming it, but when I got it home I realised the elephants all pointed the wrong way! They would all be marching up or down... So I think I will make a swing top with it instead, I am worried the 60 cm x 1500 though is not going to be enough fabric to do that for a goddess sized moongal that I am now since being on meds. grrrr.

I have deactivated the blue and white social network for 7 days so I can just stop obsessing about the state of the world, I just want some mindful, creative, being present fun things for a while.

The black jumper in chunky yarn sounds great! @Former-Member I reckon we can wear purple, we deserve to wear purple. My doctor always know how i am travelling by what colour I wear into the surgery. LOL>

I wish I could knit, I tried to teach myself, but I do the stitches waaaay too tight! (Anxiety rises knitting!)

Byeee.

Dark green sounds lovely too @Bunniekins, and would be easier to work with especially if you're working at night, or tired. I do make a lot of black items for sale, and it can get tiresome.

Chunky is fun and fast to make up. I still have some tweed look chunky in a black and green I have to decide what to do with. I made a car coat sort of overcoat out of the same yarn in a red, black, yellow and tealish fleck. I love it to bits. Can't wait for the cold so I can wear it again.

I love how the intricacies of crafting, the choosing, the deciding, the rethinking cos that yarn is something I hadn't thought of, and so on lifts our spirits!

@Former-Member have you always done crafting? Or was it something that you picked up along the way?
