Craft Corner

Craft Corner

A place to chat and share all things crafty!

What's your favourite craft? Is there anything you're working on at the moment? What would you like to create/work on (I have heaps of "one day" project patterns and ideas that I know I will probably never get around to, but it's nice to imagine)? I'd love to hear!

I have absolutely no artistic side to me and stick figures are the extent of my drawing ability, but I really enjoy learning and trying out new crafts. I learnt crochet during a stay in a prevention and recovery centre and it's something I pick up often when I am feeling blue, I need a distraction or I'm just a little bored. I've tried paper crafts too, although I didn't really get far with anything. Sharpies are some of my best friends and when I find my hands need to move I have a collection of smooth rocks that I draw on (different coloured circles) which often relaxes me. Sometimes I dust off the sewing machine and sew as well. I walk around spotlight for a fun outing 😉

Looking forward to hearing from you all 🙂

@Former-Member Hi SunShower hope you are having a lovely evening. I am about to go online and buy some wool ... not sure of colour .... any ideas? I thought I would try my hand at something a bit more complicated then yet another scarf but who knows. 🙂

@Bunniekins awesome timing for us.

Just been checking out some ACT stores for you for the sewing machine. I found this.

Found this store in the ACT - hobbysew store belconnen- this machine is on an excellent sale $174 down from $399 - Elna mechanical on sale

Check out their website and note where the classes are, (don't get talked into quilting or patchwork as a beginner class, it's not an easy thing to start with) and maybe note the prices for feet - lots of really excellent info on this site. They know their stuff! Classes might not be free. They have CROCHET beginner classes too!

A couple of points that are acceptable trade offs due to the excellent price:
No cover - cases can be bought; Longest stitch length is 4mm, if you're wanting to do lots of gathering for anything, it can be done, but might want to look at something with a longer stitch length.
Minimal set of required accessories (buttonhole foot, zipper foot, blind hem foot, others can be bought at a reasonable price.

For comparison:
This is really entry level and not as good a deal as the above being on special entry level janome for comparison but I want you to be able to compare to see the differences. Look at product information. (tabs on the browser make it easier)

I'll put this here for now cos I think the special ends the end of the month. I also am thinking these specials are because the ACT Show was on in January, so that would work time wise.

Re: @Re: Craft Corner

@Bunniekins were you meaning 'wool' yarn or using 'wool' as a generic word for all yarn?

Also, who is the scarf for? (y'don't need to tell me exactly, was only meant generally for me, more for you to work on the choices)

Will there be a fancy stitch pattern that would get lost in a multi coloured yarn, or will it be a plain stitch design?

What is the favourite colour choices of the person who will be recieving/ wearing the scarf?

And any other info you can think of that's relevant to making such an important choice - oh and d'y'know where you're getting it from as I can go there and we can see in real time what's what if you like.
