Craft Corner

Craft Corner

A place to chat and share all things crafty!

What's your favourite craft? Is there anything you're working on at the moment? What would you like to create/work on (I have heaps of "one day" project patterns and ideas that I know I will probably never get around to, but it's nice to imagine)? I'd love to hear!

I have absolutely no artistic side to me and stick figures are the extent of my drawing ability, but I really enjoy learning and trying out new crafts. I learnt crochet during a stay in a prevention and recovery centre and it's something I pick up often when I am feeling blue, I need a distraction or I'm just a little bored. I've tried paper crafts too, although I didn't really get far with anything. Sharpies are some of my best friends and when I find my hands need to move I have a collection of smooth rocks that I draw on (different coloured circles) which often relaxes me. Sometimes I dust off the sewing machine and sew as well. I walk around spotlight for a fun outing 😉

Looking forward to hearing from you all 🙂

Re: Craft Corner

@Former-Member I wish I could learn off the internet, I would have you all teach me how to crochet too!! 🙂

Re: Craft Corner

Awesome @OhanaSystem craft is an excellent stress management tool. Look forward to seeing you here sometime when you feel up to it.

OH, @Catcakes those things take up so much energy don't they. Hopefully your walk will be restful in a peculiar sort of way. Walking and rest ... but you get what I mean I think. Hope that head cold passes.

Okay, really must go now.

Re: Craft Corner

Well, you could start by going through the older posts here @OhanaSystem, we taught @Phoenix_Rising how to crochet here.

See what you think. We'd all enjoy having another learn I'm sure.

@Re: Craft Corner

Unfortunately I just don't learna that way, @Former-Member 😞 Otherwise I would gladly do that! The only way I learn new craft things is to have someone physically sit with me and do them with me, which is a bit limiting alas!

Re: @Re: Craft Corner

Oh, that's unfortunate @OhanaSystem I read how you can 'do' from tutorials for your painting and thought perhaps you might be able to extrapolate to other crafts. There are more things than crochet, but I do intend to have the whole world crocheting you know.

Re: @Re: Craft Corner

@OhanaSystemthere are so many benefits to having a live teacher, especially with complicated knotting and needles.

Thank you @Catcakes and @Former-Member

I am glad you responded directly to me @Phoenix_Rising I agree with what you posted and I am glad that you are happy being you. You are entertaining in a friendly sisterly way. I hope I did not stress you out.

I was a bit like this girl when all the older girls would be knitting and gossiping and chatting in the back row. Its my main model for people getting along together. I am not a great knitter and I dont mind, but I am very fond of my memory that even abandoned kids can get along and be creative.

Its funny how we all tend to want to share and convert the world to the skill/hobby that was given us pleasure. I do the same with singing. ..lol..

I guess it is part of the human condition.

I posted this ages ago for @CheerBear It was the most beautiful picture of feeling safe in a nest and I still love it for the times when connection is too much and we need separateness.

Cheers All.

Re: @Re: Craft Corner

@Former-Member hehe. I would definitely like to learn one day. Bucket list maybe.

I can see how you could have got 'there' from me working off tutorials. They're very basic tutorials i woke from and generallly I take an extra two hours. But I already know how to paint just ot how to make a good picture, unlike crafting where I am learning the whole thing. Does that make sense?

Hello Crafters *seats self in a vacant rocking chair with her cuppa*
The shopping has arrived and been put away, mostly anyway, the not-terribly-welcome-visitor who wanted to call today has cancelled due to illness, thank goodness. Not the illnes, just the cancellation of the visit.

Trying to catch up on the forum while I take a teensy break from cooking the Beef Stroganoff for lunch from leftover things not used for other things. A treat indeed.

Beautiful images @Appleblossom thank you for sharing them.

@OhanaSystem aha, now I understand, and yes, prior knowledge would make all the difference with using tutorials. Like @Appleblossom said, it does make an enormous difference to have someone by one's side when learning a new craft.

Checking in with @Catcakes @CheerBear @Bunniekins @Phoenix_Rising @Teej @BlueBay @Shaz51

I hope your projects whether craft or otherwise are going well.
