Craft Corner

Craft Corner

A place to chat and share all things crafty!

What's your favourite craft? Is there anything you're working on at the moment? What would you like to create/work on (I have heaps of "one day" project patterns and ideas that I know I will probably never get around to, but it's nice to imagine)? I'd love to hear!

I have absolutely no artistic side to me and stick figures are the extent of my drawing ability, but I really enjoy learning and trying out new crafts. I learnt crochet during a stay in a prevention and recovery centre and it's something I pick up often when I am feeling blue, I need a distraction or I'm just a little bored. I've tried paper crafts too, although I didn't really get far with anything. Sharpies are some of my best friends and when I find my hands need to move I have a collection of smooth rocks that I draw on (different coloured circles) which often relaxes me. Sometimes I dust off the sewing machine and sew as well. I walk around spotlight for a fun outing 😉

Looking forward to hearing from you all 🙂

@Phoenix_Rising I love your narwhal I thought it looked like a blue platapus when I first saw it. I couldn't make it 😄

Hi @Former-Member,
Sorry to read you needed to take time out from Forum but I will miss you. I actually got the chance to do a few rows on the baby blanket yesterday. It’s a lot of stitches so takes ages to do a row. I wish I could get more done each day but by the time I finish for the day, I’m so tired.
Hope you feel better with z little exit stage left.
🌿❤️🌸🐶

@Bunniekins ROFL!

I've spent my whole life having to explain to people what my drawings are of, and now it sounds like I need to explain what my crochet creations are too!

I am sitting here with Mr Narwhal and I can definitely see how you might mistake him for a platypus.

@Appleblossom Thank you for your kind words Appleblossom (btw, I have always enjoyed seeing your avatar, such elegance and whimsy, so delightful)

It was the forum that triggered the upset, but to say more only makes me appear petty and small minded.

I can relate to no one actually getting where you come from, I'm sorry you experience that too. I won't ask, that in itself, for me, is a triggering phrase 'All you have to do is ask', uhuh, yeah, mhmh. There be firebreathing dragons, so no, not gonna happen. Hypersensitive, excluded, aware of dangers others don't see, yep experiences taught me well. I had a voice, a big loud voice that finally got silenced.

Re: Craft Corner

@Bunniekins I'm sure you could do something similar - you're knitting a scarf now, bigger things to come I just know it. ps - we could teach you to crochet too. @CheerBear wants to take over the world with amigurumi, I want to take over the world with crochet!

@BlueBay that's awesome, sounds very pretty and delicate - if it's okay to do so, I'd love to see the finished set before you give it to your boss. hehe, maybe you can help Greenpea with her knitting too.

@Catcakes thank you for your kindness. Would love to see that blanket one day. I'm working on progressing that mandala shawl thingamy I undid the 50 plus rows on. It's going to be some work because I'm doing shorter stitches, but it will hold up to wear really well.

@CheerBear I hope your travel plans and travels are working out the way you want and that your crafting bag isn't bigger and heavier than all your bags put together! So many days, what might you want to crochet?????

@Phoenix_Rising I hear your sorry words - appreciated. Glad to see your crochet adventuring is ongoing.

@OhanaSystem nice to see you here. Do you craft? We'd love to hear your crafty adventures.

I'm off to work on my door screen 2 panels done, needs an adjustment, which is an easyish fix, and 2 more panels to do. Hopefully finish it today, otherwise it will be later in the week.

Happy crafting to you!

Re: Craft Corner

Thanks @Former-Member that there is more lightheartedness in my avatar is good for me in the way people use colour therapy. It lightens my load as I identify with it more. I see it and think that is me..

There are real limitations on the forum and scope for misunderstanding and feeling snubbed and left out, yet often that is not the intention of forumites.

When I first started posting I noticed when conflict arose people would snap at each other and then dissappear. It made me sad as I had come to like them and felt highly motivated to try and help them work it out. Mostly though one snappy experience was enough to drive people away.

After a few years of being in operation there is a little more culture of talking through conflict, or at least admitting, and sorries are said, and people become aware of how they may inadvertently step on each others toes. Its all a work in progress.

Glad you are still here.

Re: Craft Corner

@Former-Member I concur with @Appleblossom about difficulties on the forum. I have been hurt in the past as well. I am highly sensitive to some things that others are not and vice versa. Please bear with us and speak about difficulties. My experiences here show in that people are very supportive and want to work things out. No one wants anyone to feel excluded. You have a beautiful heart and presence on here.

You once asked if I had any crafty hobbies. Unfortunately I don’t really. Mine is finding beautiful images mostly. I connect with all types of images whether they be graphic art or traditional painting. Here’s my image for today with you in mind

I read somewhere about how you chose your name. This image evokes that the sun is shining but the frog is waiting for the rain to pass to feel its warmth again.

@Appleblossom I’m sorry I’m so erratic on the forum at the moment responding to some of your posts and not others. I’ve really valued that you’ve cared and your thoughtfulness but haven’t been good at communicating it. The same goes for you @Former-Member, @Bunniekins and lots of others. I don’t cope well with responding to emotional things when I’m out of control. Sometimes I can to things that for me are autocontrol things that don’t elicit more emotion. I hope to be more stable again sometime but each hour and each day sees me on my huge roller coaster ride. 💜🤗

Re: Craft Corner

Darling @Teej you dont have to apologise for anything. I just like to know that you are okay. A sentence here or there is wonderful. I can be very erratic and have hurt other people's feelings which I apologise for almost immediately as I don't mean to. It is just sometimes the bipolar and schizoaffective disorder goes into overdrive and I cannot control it and them bam! and before I know it I have hurt someone's feelings. I hate myself for it and endeavour never to do it again and hope that the person will forgive me in time and understand that my intention was never to hurt them.

As for being hurt by people on the board I try not to let it affect me and know often it would not be their intention we are all dealing with issues in our own way and some need space whilst others dont.

Again keep in touch and take care. Love gp xx

Re: Craft Corner

@TeejYou do not have to respond to all my posts. I know you have a lot on and struggle. The fact that you did with extra sensitivity and empathy still means a lot to me. There are others to relate to as their circumstances really resonate.

I might have this wrong, so forgive me if I am clumsy @Phoenix_Rising but I am going to have a go fo all our sakes. I sense that as you had been isolated for so long and felt a clicking with @CheerBear and you attached VERY strongly.

When people do connect it can easily lead to special talk about special themes or memories which can feel reassuring and break the sense of isolation.

I think the issue of women having intellects and feelings is an evolving reality. In the past it was often presumed that men had the maths and the money and the girls did all the touchyfeely connecty stuff ... but we have seen how limited that is for both men and women. What does it mean to be female with an intellect why should I feel less womanly becasue I have an education. I was encouraged into it and then got rejected for it.

I cannot connect with some of the language that @CheerBear uses, because it triggers my deep sense of deprivation and abandonment. What is healing for one is triggering for me. Though I acknowledge your postiviity and nurturance. I relate more to many of your images @Phoenix_Rising and experiences but you do not seem to feel the connection. SO I put it down to my imagination and it is one sided, and now after a year, I begin to be feel hurt when you make big statements that nobody understands or you can only feel certain people and I am not one. I felt I connected with both intellect and feeling, but feel rebuffed that I have not been as giggly or having special woo woo connection. I think it would be regressive of me to start relating like an 10 year old, though I have lightened up a lot. I can reach out but it is a violation for me to deny the depth of my isolation and deprivation, if I stretch too much I will snap. I know we are all bruised sensitive beings. So then it seems best to let there be some space between us all. Focus on the connections we have and let it be and find more connection elsewhere. I need to go now. When new people come along and show parts of themselves that resonate it can be great and help us all move forward... with a little shuffle over on the gignormous internet couch.

I do hope we all find a way of inhabiting the online space together. I dont mean to be dominating but know I can seem strong,

Best wishes ... as we knit together this new invention ..an online community.

Bear with us all please,

Re: Craft Corner

Hello crafters,

Super big thank you to @CheerBear and @Former-Member for teaching me the wonder of crochet. I sat down to finish off this little dude at 9am and I've just finished him. Yay for hyperfocusing on cool mindfulness activities.

@Bunniekins can you tell what this one is?

I have no idea how his legs ended up so wonky - I THOUGHT I was lining them up carefully! I'm also not sure why his eyes are so far down on his head or why like Mr Narwhal, he has some larger-than-ideal holes in him. It seems to be when I'm doing the decreasing that I end up with big holes. Oh well, all the most awesome individuals in the world are wonky.

@Former-Member @Former-Member @Former-Member are you around to laugh at admire my latest creation?
