Craft Corner

Craft Corner

A place to chat and share all things crafty!

What's your favourite craft? Is there anything you're working on at the moment? What would you like to create/work on (I have heaps of "one day" project patterns and ideas that I know I will probably never get around to, but it's nice to imagine)? I'd love to hear!

I have absolutely no artistic side to me and stick figures are the extent of my drawing ability, but I really enjoy learning and trying out new crafts. I learnt crochet during a stay in a prevention and recovery centre and it's something I pick up often when I am feeling blue, I need a distraction or I'm just a little bored. I've tried paper crafts too, although I didn't really get far with anything. Sharpies are some of my best friends and when I find my hands need to move I have a collection of smooth rocks that I draw on (different coloured circles) which often relaxes me. Sometimes I dust off the sewing machine and sew as well. I walk around spotlight for a fun outing 😉

Looking forward to hearing from you all 🙂

Re: Craft Corner

You two are hilarious and make me smile. Thank you! Thank you heaps!

So are you going to make one of your lovely dolls (or will you sew something too) @Catcakes and @CheerBear an amigurumi something or a new sewing project while I work on my latest mandala shawl thingy for crochet and alternate with making the screen covers for a sewing project?

I'd love to sit over coffee and cake (I'd have to have some cake) and chat about all things crafted with you CheerBear and Catcakes and others too, we could share so much and gain so much from each other. We shall have to do that here instead it seems.

So, do you want or need another project bag for crochet? Maybe you could make one the way you'd like it to be, with a zip pocket or two, and inside pockets and an over the shoulder handle or a small one with a loop for a handle. Hmmmm???? would a project bag, tote bag sort of thing be useful?

There are other things that can be done instead of a bag, but given we're here-but-not and there's reduced capacity for visuals to work with, they are often easy to explain and stuff.

Yep, i will facilitate crafting almost any way I can.

Trying to catch up here

@CheerBear I don't have a Pinterest account but I do sometimes use their images for inspiration. I dont' use any social media at all.

Ball/ yarn winder - One style of Yarn winder this is the style of winder I have (didn't pay that for it though) If I were to get one again (they can be hard to get in Australia) I'd get a different sort.

I do so understand the jumping straight in, which is why, if you have the basics down, you CAN jump in and do stuff just like snapping your fingers. I do it all the time. Kids want a new pair of shorts/ dress/ whatever for the next social (two days time), done! Want a new dress to go shopping/ whatever tomorrow - done! So many times.

Book week was my kiddies thing, 'Muuuuuuum, I need a costume for tomorrow, I wanna be ......', one was Jasmine I think her name was, from Aladdin.

the mandala thingy - yes, a lovely cotton - Cascade Ultra Pima (again in that lot I got for cheap as) - I didn't have to undo all of it, I still have all of the circular base done, and will work it out again from there without the frills. I don't know what I was thinking - perhaps I wasn't.

your brain is ticking so loudly thinking about sewing things that I can hear it over here!

((craft hugs))) Thank you so much @CheerBear @Catcakes you have cheered me up no end tonight.

Craft is so good for recovery. Time for food now. Have a wonderful night dreaming of craft ideas.

Re: Craft Corner

Morning crafters ☺

Happy to hear you felt a bit cheered up @Former-Member. I felt kind of blegh before logging in last night and better after it also.

The ticking in my head led me to think about fabric I might have around. I had a pretty decent fabric collection. I hope I still have it but last night I had this big jolty oh no feeling, as I am not sure whether it fell victim to my big "destroy and cull everything" brain snap moment I had when we moved into this house.

Before I do any kind of pulling out of machine and sewing supplies, I need to overcome my fear of the shed/garage spiders and see what I have in the boxes in there. Maybe that can be a mini-mission goal soon.

I meant to share that I've been given a pretty special project that I also should probably finish before starting any kind of new big one (gives me time to think and ponder and pin I suppose). I was asked whether I could finish something for an acquaintance/maybe friend, for their friend who had a close relative who died before they could finish it. It won't take me too long (though there are so many sewing in ends - ugh!) but it feels important so that's what I could focus my craft energy on doing in the meantime, while I build up the courage to face the creepy crawlies.

Love the bookweek story ❤ That's pretty much what my machine has been used for also ☺

Hmmmm, ticking away and imagining all the possibilities!

Hope today is a good one for you/all 😊

Re: Craft Corner

Spiders???!!!!! NOOOOOOOOO @CheerBear

Oh, my, I can relate. Had to clear the outdoor shed thing of garden stuff before moving - oh. my. gawd. spiders. If you have time/ resources, maybe spider bomb the shed a week before you try entering in there (safely of course with both the bombing and the entering). Heh, I used to wear an old army rain poncho over me to keep a barrier between me and them that I could just rip off if needed. I am not good with 'pideys.

Particular type of 'pideys? If they are Daddy Long Legs, not so bad, really. Just don't crush 'em on your skin, that can be very not good. (Yep, did it once) DLL's are the only natural predator of RBs, so if you have them both, the bigger the colony of DLL's the better. *shudders*

Began the screen sewing project late last night but only just, simply to try to do something productive in the day/ night, because stress and pain has been simply overhwelming. Sorry I wasn't around yesterday, too much pain meant I couldn't type, couldn't sit still, just was not good company at all.

I too can relate to those (usually very rare) moments of "I must cull everything". It has happened in moments of great distress when the need to remove all connections to, and memories of, certain things/ people has overridden basic common sense. These days I usually seriously consider the options, as I'm sure you do too.

I can remember ma burning things in a fit of pique one afternoon, crying and throwing things into the outdoor fire she had built, burning clothes and handbags and shoes. It was very scary, I was about 6 or so. She would not stop for anything, I had to go get father, but all those lovely things were gone forever.

Goodness, that project sounds interesting and also something of an honour to be asked to finish. A very nice way to refocus your craftiness and give you time to think about other ideas too.

Here's hoping you do have some stash in there and it's all okay, and that the spiders vacate and let you sort things in peace!

Craft Hugs everyone.
