Craft Corner

Craft Corner

A place to chat and share all things crafty!

What's your favourite craft? Is there anything you're working on at the moment? What would you like to create/work on (I have heaps of "one day" project patterns and ideas that I know I will probably never get around to, but it's nice to imagine)? I'd love to hear!

I have absolutely no artistic side to me and stick figures are the extent of my drawing ability, but I really enjoy learning and trying out new crafts. I learnt crochet during a stay in a prevention and recovery centre and it's something I pick up often when I am feeling blue, I need a distraction or I'm just a little bored. I've tried paper crafts too, although I didn't really get far with anything. Sharpies are some of my best friends and when I find my hands need to move I have a collection of smooth rocks that I draw on (different coloured circles) which often relaxes me. Sometimes I dust off the sewing machine and sew as well. I walk around spotlight for a fun outing 😉

Looking forward to hearing from you all 🙂

Awesome @Bunniekins! If you need any suggestions or run into trouble, we're here.

Do you have a pattern, or a style? Long, short? Colour? Knit or crochet or weaving?

(and of course, only if it's okay to share, no pressure):smileyvery-happy:

How cool to have you here working on yarny things with us.

@CheerBear @Former-Member Counting in circles hard.

Re: Craft Corner

Yes, yes it is unfortunately, until you get the hang of it @Phoenix_Rising. I always, always find it best for me to use a locking stitch marker to mark that beginning stitch whether I'm working a spiral, or whether I'm using a chain stitch to 'lift' the work to the next row.

Are you using stitch markers? I can't see any in the image.

There is also a method to doing circles that keep getting bigger and staying circles. I'll find the info for you ... my brain is not letting me find the particular I want right now, so I will come back to it and post it later for you.

Are you using a particular instructional something I could check for you?

I must say though, nice even work there PR! Well done you! Have you tried the Narwhal video yet, you could probably do that without any troubles because she tells and shows you stitch by stitch what and how to do it. Just keep stopping and starting the vid to follow it at your own pace.

I'll get back as soon as I can with the increase method for circles, unless @CheerBear beats me to it. She may know it exactly off the top of her head.

Re: Craft Corner

Redbacks @Former-Member - lots of them. Shudder. We're going away in a week and a half and there are things I will need from inside the garage so we can go, so it has to happen soon.

I was in there this morning to get the mower and whipper snipper and I saw boxes that I am pretty sure have my fabric in them. I also spotted the one with my machine. Seeing them is a good first step.

That would have been scary when you were little with the fire. I would have liked to have set fire to it all (I suggested to the police that we do that with the entire old house and all of the contents but that didn't go down well - no idea why 😉 ). It felt good to do and better that I can see there really wasn't much I got rid of that any of us notice or miss.

Hope the knitting goes well @Bunniekins. Dr Suess style scarf could be fun. Wish I could knit - I can not make sense of it at all.

So impressive @Phoenix_Rising. Truly. Are you using a continuous spiral (where you keep going in single crochet all the way around)? There are some circles that use a slip stitch, chain one then single crochet in the same stitch but I still can't figure that one out properly and it always throws my stitch counting. The stitch markers could really help as SunShower mentioned. You're doing so well. I think you could definitely follow along with a video like the narwhal.

Re: Craft Corner

OH, dear @CheerBear be brave and very, very careful. they like dark damp places. Gloves ....

I feel creeped out just thinking about you having to go in there. I hate them, they don't play fair, and I very much respect their dangerousness.

Found one in the oldest child's bed one night, just as I turned it down. Another time, same house, baby girl was holding one in the palm of her hand trying to pet it. Oh, I wonder at how I stayed calm and quietly talked her into putting it down ever so carefully so she would not get a fright from my reaction and close her hand on it and .... all hell break loose.

I am trying to talk myself into enough motivation to make a banana cake and/ or a pear cake to use up the fruit that is overripening.

Heh, yeah, fire in that instance sounds like a nifty idea, but yeah, yeah.

Hope your day is progressing as you'd like it to.

Re: Craft Corner

@Former-Member I have one bundle of dark green wool left. I follow a basic pattern (very basic) which I got online and I knit it with very big sized needles 😄

When I have finished it I will show you all 😄

Re: Craft Corner

Awesome @Bunniekins do keep us up to date with your progress if you feel like doing so.

I managed to craft up some bananas into some banana cakes. I've been so flat that practically nothing (and, I minimise so, probably not so much the nothing... ) has been done during the past almost week.

I have some big knitting needles too! (I have all the knitting needles, like all the crochet hooks) . I thnk I am addicted to some craft things!

I can really only use short knitting needles these days if I do bother to knit. I have short needle parts with cord attached so the weight is in my lap, not on my hands. (Denise Interchangeables).

Okies, now I must go shower and get a snack.

I have never heard of these before ... I must google them and have a look 🙂

Re: Craft Corner

crochet in the round instructions

@Phoenix_Rising I had a couple of different links and a post partially written for you when my computer took a holiday without permission, so I've lost it all and don't have time to find the links again.

The above link will show you the math related to how to do increases in crochet in the round, you're good at math, so figured instead of trying to explain it (I such almightily at math) you'd probably be able to figure it out in a flash.

Sorry for the shortness, food is served, have to go.

hope that link helps and you get to discovering the joys of crocheting in the round!

@CheerBear @Former-Member PR used stitch markers. Started narwhal. Wonkiest narwhal in the world. Terminal wonkiness. Narhwhal needs to be re-Narhwhalled.
