Craft Corner

Craft Corner

A place to chat and share all things crafty!

What's your favourite craft? Is there anything you're working on at the moment? What would you like to create/work on (I have heaps of "one day" project patterns and ideas that I know I will probably never get around to, but it's nice to imagine)? I'd love to hear!

I have absolutely no artistic side to me and stick figures are the extent of my drawing ability, but I really enjoy learning and trying out new crafts. I learnt crochet during a stay in a prevention and recovery centre and it's something I pick up often when I am feeling blue, I need a distraction or I'm just a little bored. I've tried paper crafts too, although I didn't really get far with anything. Sharpies are some of my best friends and when I find my hands need to move I have a collection of smooth rocks that I draw on (different coloured circles) which often relaxes me. Sometimes I dust off the sewing machine and sew as well. I walk around spotlight for a fun outing 😉

Looking forward to hearing from you all 🙂

Re: Craft Corner

@outlander I still don't know how to upload photos from my phone! But I'm doing a short course on it in a couple of weeks so maybe I'll be able to do it after that. Sorry. Thanks for the encouragement about writing.

Re: Craft Corner

Oh thats a bummer @outlander , i didnt think of that! Went thru the most recent 10 pages of the thread. The comments were for posts that had pics of the people's amazing work.

'Has anyone made this?' was to do with a turquoise coloured crocheted top that had been posted as something that wld be a great idea to do.

Sorry all for any confusion. But if ive posted a reply to you it will be associated with the pics of your wonderful creations over the last 10 pages or so.

Thanks @outlander for pointing out my error. If i comment on backdated posts il make sure i make it obvious what im referring to.

Best wishes to all xx

Re: Craft Corner

@eth it should be the same as computer? if you click on the photo looking symbol itll bring up the 'upload pics' screen and then go from there.. i find it hard on phone though as ive got to many pics on it. sometimes if i cant get my phone to work i send the pics in an email to myself and save to computer and upload that way.

Re: Craft Corner

Hi @CheerBear , thanks heaps for sharing, i rly appreciate it.

Do u mind if i ask u some questions? I know im deviating from craft, and please dont answer anything ur not comfortable to, but im still pretty new to MI and find it helps me to understand other peoples stories. I hope u dont mind....

How long have u been dealing with MI?

When u were hospitalised, did u find it beneficial? I mean, did it help? Were u in a better place when you left? Were u private or public?

How are you with your MH now? Im sorry if im prying! I am concerned that i may need to b hospitalised to come off short term anxiety meds that iv bn on long term bcoz they havnt bn able to find nething else tgat works. And i guess, bcoz my life has changed for the worse so much since diagnosis (off work, quality of life and marriage etc suffered) i like to look for encouragement that life can b better again. Mayb not like it was before, but with improved functioning and quality of life. I rly hope my questions arent too personal.

This keeps posting even tho i havnt finished! So will post this and finish the reply on a second post.

Re: Craft Corner

Wonderful that u found something when u were in hospital that was therapeutic for you, and continues to b. I find knitting can b therapeutic for me also, tho i also find it boring at times, and i get impatient! Mayb i wld b better off with crocheting - see the results quicker!

Yes i love it when mum n i get together and hav our knitting/chatting times - it means a lot to me.

Wow, you hav kids too?! Amazing that u r able to be a mum, deal with the challenges of MI and be so creative and productive as well! Quite an achievement.

I dont hav pinterest but thanks for the tip. I need to get creative in another way so i might get it. My dog who is nuts over chasing the ball, which we do on a regular basis, is not allowed to do it any more bcoz the vet think she has a muscular skeletal injury. So now shes only allowed to go on normal walks. So we need to find other ways to entertain her and provide stimulation - one of those ways is making feeding time a challenge for her to figure out. Cant afford to go and buy several different puzzle feeders so need to come up with some cheap ideas for things i can make at home. Pinterest will no doubt help with that.

Anyway, i hope i havnt gone on too much @CheerBear . I appreciate you reaching out and sharing our common ground.

Best wishes to you. Xx

Re: Craft Corner

Yeh im still getting the hang of some aspects of how the forums work @outlander - still a bit of a novice.

One thing i find so frustrating is i can be typing a msg, and trying to edit a spelling error, but the screen moves up on my phone and instd of the curser going whr iv tapped, i accidentally hit post bcoz it keeps moving up, so i keep posting when i havnt finished typing the post yet. Aaaarrgghh! Very frustrating! Its hapnd about 8 times tonight. Ggrrrr! Still, thats modern technology for u! Iv only got internet on my phone and it has a mind of its own so can b very frustrating!

The turqoise top was gorgeous. Wld buy it if i could!

Re: Craft Corner

Hey @Doglover. I think it's great to ask questions and I didn't take them as prying 🙂. The forum is such a good place to ask away and to chat with people who 'get it' from a place of living it. I'm happy to share my experience, as many of us here are. I might use another thread to answer though (gotta find one first!), just so this one stays on topic. I'm sorry things are sounding really hard for you right now. I believe it can get better, I really do (even though sometimes I still need some reminding of that).

It's so good that you get to spend that time with your mum. It is that kind of thing that really helps, from my experience. Sorry to hear about your dog. I'm sure Pinterest will help you find some ideas. Being with loved ones (including furry ones) and being creative are more of those really helpful things I think too.

Anytime you want to give crochet a go, you'll find some encouragement here 😁 (that goes for knitting, beading, painting... everything. I have a bit of a thing for crochet though!).

Re: Craft Corner

Hey again @Doglover. I noticed you started a discussion called "still struggling". I just wanted to check whether you are comfortable with me replying to your questions over there?
