Craft Corner

Craft Corner

A place to chat and share all things crafty!

What's your favourite craft? Is there anything you're working on at the moment? What would you like to create/work on (I have heaps of "one day" project patterns and ideas that I know I will probably never get around to, but it's nice to imagine)? I'd love to hear!

I have absolutely no artistic side to me and stick figures are the extent of my drawing ability, but I really enjoy learning and trying out new crafts. I learnt crochet during a stay in a prevention and recovery centre and it's something I pick up often when I am feeling blue, I need a distraction or I'm just a little bored. I've tried paper crafts too, although I didn't really get far with anything. Sharpies are some of my best friends and when I find my hands need to move I have a collection of smooth rocks that I draw on (different coloured circles) which often relaxes me. Sometimes I dust off the sewing machine and sew as well. I walk around spotlight for a fun outing 😉

Looking forward to hearing from you all 🙂

Hey @Doglover and thanks 🙂 Glad you've found this part of the forum.

I read you knit and that you're creating scarves. We'd love to see if you'd like to share. There's nothing crafty that's not worth posting!

What do you like about knitting or about crafting generally?

Also a big hi @salzie 🙂👋 I noticed your fluid art - so cool!

Re: Craft Corner

Hi @CheerBear , u r so clever with ur crocheting! Amazing.

Mum taught me how to knit after diagnosed with MI, and off work. It helps to fill in time sometimes when iv got nothing better to do, and helps to take my mind off other things as well. I particularly enjoy hanging out with my mum and knitting which wev started to do over the last cpl of months. I can only do plain stich, and at the moment mum has to cast on and off for me, so im talking very very basic level!! Il get my scarves out at some point and take a pic and post.

What do u enjoy the most about what u do? Do u find it therapeutic?

Re: Craft Corner

Hey @outlander I crochet, don't knit - tried it many years ago but decided I prefer crochet as it grows faster. Not really patient enough to knit, but also lost my 'crojo' as you call it for the time being -after starting a scarf quite a while ago. I probably should do smaller garments that have more variety of stitches - have done a lot of rainbow hats over the years.

I'm more focussed on developing writing skills these days - it's what I've done most in creative terms over the years. I joined the local writers centre this year and have done some workshops. Going to a live reading evening tomorrow night, and starting in a creative writing group in a couple of weeks. Really wanting to make the most of my membership and challenge myself to different types of writing.

oh id love to see some of your work if you have any pics @eth ? yeah ive lost my crojo too, kinda at a bad time though-midway through a project. still trying to a row each day though. its a rather big one- double size blanket in ripple stitch.

its great that your doing writing though. well done on going to workshops and live readings and evening joining up. thats really good

Re: Craft Corner

We share something in that mental health challenges prompted us to pick up yarn @Doglover 😊 I took up crocheting when my MH declined to the point of needing hospital. From then I played around with it sometimes until I made something huge during a very hard time a couple of years ago. I haven't really stopped since (except for little down times here and there).

It's so nice that your mum and you are enjoying time together with craft ❤

I find it has huge benefits for me. When I need it to be, crochet can be so soothing for me. I find it can also give me a challenge at times, it can help me focus my busy head on something and it's a great distraction too. Plus my kids enjoy home made stuff. I love that I can pick and choose the difficulty of projects based on what feels right for me in that moment.

Do you have Pinterest? When I'm not feeling like crafting but I want a bit of crafty feel goods, Pinterest is my friend 😁
