Adventures on Turtle Island

Adventures on Turtle Island

Edit:

Welcome to Turtle Island!

What began as a discussion about personality types based on the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, quickly found a few of us marooned on an Island in the shape of a turtle (see below), in the South Pacific. We are currently having all kinds of adventures using our MBTI types to work out what might happen. If you're looking for some light-hearted fun, everyone is welcome to come along to stay or just visit. (You can get an idea of your MBTI here if you're interested.) Recently we found a (non-existent) suggestion box on the Island, we think it's come from an elusive island neighbour, so you're welcome to just fly (or swim) past and drop us some suggestions too.

Niqueeta wrote a fabulous prelude to Turtle Island here:

Turtle Island : The Night Before

Spookytookims has written some awesome episodes which can be found here:

The First Morning

Turtle Island episode 2

Turtle Island episode 3 (this one even has pictures!)

Turtle Island episode 4: Shipwreck Salvage

Turtle Island: The Lurgi Strikes (part 1)

Turtle Island: The Lurgi Strikes (part 2)

We now have a welcome sign which is also our Island flag:

And here we are in a message in a bottle on the sand as drawn by Lil-Caterpillar!

Here are some views of our Island - isn't it spectacular?!

Looking forward to bumping in to you!

This is how it all began....

Personality and what makes us us is something I find really interesting and I think there would be a few of us out there who share that interest.

@Spookytookims and I were having a chat about MBTI and the differences in our 'types'. I've found myself pondering what factors in our personalities might influence our interactions and the way a deeper understanding of people may improve communication. I like thinking about what makes two or more people 'click' or not.

While it's difficult to imagine the world being split into a small number of personality 'types', I am interested in what different personality tests offer us in terms of gaining insight or understanding.

Maybe an interesting discussion if anyone wants to join 🙂

There's a lot more information on this test. I would say I am a bit of a Humanitarian, I have been involved in activist protests (though to be honest it always took some sort of substance to get me out there and I don't anymore)
I can't say I really understand all of it, are INFJ's pathologically honest? - I'd say that's one of my traits - and I'd say, from life experience, it's not the way to be!
I wouldn't be mistaken as a extrovert anymore, when I read those words I thought 'this is not me' but then I thought of my life, the substance abuse - sometimes I was really 'out there'!
But only being able to be intimate with a chosen few, is definitely me! and has been all my life.
And I'd say my intervals where I have to withdraw, almost touch edges these days, even with my child! and it is absolutely to prevent emotional overload, so that I can continue to at least give that support!
Though I think I missed out on the 'uncanny gift' of being able to tell good from evil. I firmly believe you can not tell who the boogie man is, black, white, male, female, old, young, - we all have the boogie man inside of us.
I definitely have trouble communicating - and yet I miss it so very much. So I agree self-expression comes far more easily on paper, but would not say I have strong writing skills.
I worked predominately in care, animal and aged, so in a way, teaching, psychology and counseling were all a part of the job. It kind of explains that although I achieved my Cert III in IT, I struggled desperately and only just barely passed - and have never worked in that field.
I don't really understand the 'system builders', but I do think the likes of activists are vitally important to society, without those that are willing to stand up and say no to large governing bodies, the human race would be bulldozed even quicker. Unfortunately, I think that means Wars are also profoundly important.
I will stand up for the oppressed and downtrodden. It's funny, I've never been able to stand up for myself - but don't you put anyone or anything down around me! 🙂
It even mentions my conspiratorial mind - I'm definitely suspicious of everything! It doesn't seem to mention the conflict in my mind though, - how I continuously want things I don't want (friendships with real people, getting out of my security bubble to see new places etc.)
But I liked this one much better and I'd have to say it's uncannily close to the point 😄

Re: Adventures on Turtle Island

Hey @Former-Member 🙂 Glad you found a result that you can identify with. As far as introvert/extrovert goes with mbti, my understanding is that it's where you draw your energy etc from. Extroverts from outside of themselves, introverts from within. So you can definitely be a sociable introvert but from how I understand the test it means you'd need to take plenty of time alone to recharge if that makes sense?

I've got some links on mental health and mbti that I'm hoping to share for anyone who is interested once I have a proper look through the forum guidelines (I'm pretty sure they should be ok here) but for me it shared an interesting perspective on some of the challenges that can come up for particular 'types'.

Super lovely to have you on the island, I always enjoying reading your thoughtful posts 🙂

Re: Adventures on Turtle Island

@Former-Member Thanks! That's great.. I think the cats is "pets" I saw it on another brain after I posted that version. pets makes more sense, hmm no poetic thoughts wonder what your equivalent would be... "love" the double suspicion for your character on the island .. that will be fun to play with - probably really not fun for you to have IRL though 😞

@Former-Member Never too late to reach Turtle Island 🙂 .... (If I can figure out how a little doggie got here :P) Thanks so much for helping by posting in your traits, the strengths and weaknesses accuracy is SUPER helpful 🙂 Fantastic to have you hear.. are you happy being a dog (as per holly avatar) or have you a preference for something else as your character?

Hello everyone else.. I'll catch up with you all in a bit. 🙂

@Former-Member Oh I love your breakdown of your results too. I skimmed, I'll read it properly in just a bit, must do chores or will get comfy and not do them 🙂

Re: Adventures on Turtle Island

Hey @Spookytookims - I'm wondering if maybe there was another boat carrying all kinds of people that was travelling around the ocean but went off track and got lost and saw some smoke coming from thevorticon's man cave fire and that's how everyone has ended up here! Maybe the boat was carrying things too, (like that string I'm still looking for to craft with 😉 ) which can explain some new items as well! That's an idea at least 😄

Re: Adventures on Turtle Island

As I typed that realised that offering ideas to a thinking person is maybe not neccessary @Spookytookims 😉 I'm off to make room in the cave for everyone and imagine some extensions. I'm thinking double story, ideally with french doors 😛

Re: Adventures on Turtle Island

I don't know what this means @Spookytookims! I've seen you write it before and I've either missed something, am overthinking things and you're literally cleaning your coffee pot a lot, or I'm totally lost (probably this one haha!).
