Adventures on Turtle Island

Adventures on Turtle Island

Edit:

Welcome to Turtle Island!

What began as a discussion about personality types based on the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, quickly found a few of us marooned on an Island in the shape of a turtle (see below), in the South Pacific. We are currently having all kinds of adventures using our MBTI types to work out what might happen. If you're looking for some light-hearted fun, everyone is welcome to come along to stay or just visit. (You can get an idea of your MBTI here if you're interested.) Recently we found a (non-existent) suggestion box on the Island, we think it's come from an elusive island neighbour, so you're welcome to just fly (or swim) past and drop us some suggestions too.

Niqueeta wrote a fabulous prelude to Turtle Island here:

Turtle Island : The Night Before

Spookytookims has written some awesome episodes which can be found here:

The First Morning

Turtle Island episode 2

Turtle Island episode 3 (this one even has pictures!)

Turtle Island episode 4: Shipwreck Salvage

Turtle Island: The Lurgi Strikes (part 1)

Turtle Island: The Lurgi Strikes (part 2)

We now have a welcome sign which is also our Island flag:

And here we are in a message in a bottle on the sand as drawn by Lil-Caterpillar!

Here are some views of our Island - isn't it spectacular?!

Looking forward to bumping in to you!

This is how it all began....

Personality and what makes us us is something I find really interesting and I think there would be a few of us out there who share that interest.

@Spookytookims and I were having a chat about MBTI and the differences in our 'types'. I've found myself pondering what factors in our personalities might influence our interactions and the way a deeper understanding of people may improve communication. I like thinking about what makes two or more people 'click' or not.

While it's difficult to imagine the world being split into a small number of personality 'types', I am interested in what different personality tests offer us in terms of gaining insight or understanding.

Maybe an interesting discussion if anyone wants to join 🙂

@CheerBear I forgot to reply about this before, but you can feel free to post my pintrest type stuff if you want (if you haven't already done it, this thread moves heaps quickly sometimes!). I won't be offended either way 🙂

I'll just take your word on the P vs J thing @Spookytookims. Can't say it bothers me either way haha.

Apparently it is a general male thing. A lot of the time I actually find it somewhat relaxing to follow assembly instructions though. There's something nice and satisfying about assembling something without having to think about it, and then figuring out what on earth they meant in spots where the instructions suddenly become ambiguous or altogether misleading.

For the story... At my fortress (I upgraded the mancave), I hope I've got a couple of rope ladders and a bit of a treehouse thing going. Working on the upper body I always wanted but never bothered with on the "mainland", so a bit of a monkeybar setup from tree to tree. If anyone visits, I'll hopefully know in advance thanks to my early warning detection system... So I'll give myself time to decide if I want to be found or not, unless somone/thing makes it past without setting it off or I'm not paying attention 😛 Valuable supplies are raised off the ground, although I've also got a "useful junk" pile that seems like it could be useful someday, but certainly not today, and quite possibly never 😛

Re: Adventures on Turtle Island

I found some interesting stuff on personality types and mental illness to share with anyone who might be keen (or bored). I have to check guidelines about sharing links and then double check what source it's coming from before I share it but it's got some good points about NF and NT challenges and mentions MI and introversion.

I think I'm starting to get sick 😞 I have an incredibly good immune system considering I don't look after my body as well as I could. I really can't afford to get sick at the moment though.

@Spookytookims and everyone else - what if one of us gets sick on the island?! Do we nurture them back to health or quarantine them so no-one else catches it or are there other ideas? (I know where I stand on this).

😮 your man cave sounds incredibly fun @TheVorticon! I'll add your stuff onto my pinterest sharing list and then tag you in it next time I'm pinteresting and mbti-ying.

@Spookytookims

I've seen people talking about a test - so I found a personality one . . . and it has letters. Aparantly I'm a INFP-T

Your personality type is:
Mediator (INFP-t) No one can stop you from dreaming!

Mind
This trait determines how we interact with our environment.

Extraverted 0%

Introverted 100%

Energy

This trait shows where we direct our mental energy.

Intuitive 80%

Observant 20%

Nature

This trait determines how we make decisions and cope with emotions.

Thinking 22%

Feeling 78%

Tactics

This trait reflects our approach to work, planning and decision-making.

Judging 42%

Prospecting 58%

Identity

This trait underpins all others, showing how confident we are in our abilities and decisions.

Assertive 6%

Turbulent 94%

Well, I don't know if that's good or bad? Some of those percentages seem a bit extreme. I guess I don't mind being a mediator, not that I have anyone much to mediate How do I put those letters at the bottom of my posts?

Re: Adventures on Turtle Island

Ooooh @Former-Member Hi 😄 INFP is great if you ask me! (I'm one too). I don't think there's 'good' or 'bad' when it comes to personality, traits or how strong those traits are, I think there's just different. I have some pretty high trait scores too but haven't seen them broken down like that before. Sometimes people talk of 'overdeveloped' and 'underdeveloped' traits and how these may appear under stress etc. That's really all I remember about it at least.

So great to see you here on turtle island 🙂

Re: Adventures on Turtle Island

@CheerBear nooo don't get sick! rug up rug up.... that's the last thing you need. But as for the island.. did you not see those bear things??? I think we have a lot of carebears there for anyone who gets sick. 🙂

We'll have all sorts of domesticated animals and swings, and cave organisation..... and starvation.. in no time! 😛

@Former-Member I read your results... they are interesting.. now of course it's more about what you think of them because you know yourself best. Do you think any of the stuff on INFP you have seen relates to you? I know Cheerbear thinks quite a bit of what she has read relates to her which makes it easier for me to "get" her cos I need information to process.

I put my signature in by going into (profile) settings and choosing personal information, there is a line there you can add a sig.

Re: Adventures on Turtle Island

@Spookytookims

I don't really understand it.
I'm pretty obviously introverted, but I wouldn't have thought anyone could be %100!
I would have thought I was more observant, I thought I noticed lots of things - but I suppose it's really just certain things, things that appear in patterns.
I can't say I'm happy about the percentage of thinking, but I do have trouble controlling my emotions and everything seems to come back to fear.
To be honest I don't know what is meant by 'Prospecting' and I don't like to think I'm judging 42% of everything 😉
I know I'm not very assertive, but it seems a very low mark; and I don't really know what's meant by 'Turbulent' - but my life is and always has been a mess, so maybe that's right too.

Re: Adventures on Turtle Island

@CheerBear Oh I super hope you aren't getting sick in real life. I too seem to be blessed with a great immune system and very rarely pick up bugs. As for what happens to those who get sick on the island - definitely quarantine...but with lots of care bears provided and lots of support via...er...do we have wifi on the island? The reason I had to add that is because when I wrote "definitely quarantine" I got an icky feeling/memory of being locked in isolation in the psych ward so the thought of isolating someone is icky...but I'm still not into sharing germs.

Re: Adventures on Turtle Island

Thanks @Phoenix_Rising me too! Hitting it with lots of water and hopefully an early bed.

I was waiting to see whether we'd have a quarantiner and predicted it may be you Phoenix_Rising. I like that you're a kind one though. I'm all up for diving in head first into nursing someone who is sick and forgetting or ignoring that maybe it could be something terribly contagious and lethal. Maybe it's that thing about INFPs in movies as being the 'ones to sacrifice themselves'! Now there's a whole clan of us on the island I wonder whether we'd be fighting between ourselves as to who gets to dive in though, overlooking the finer details like the person who is actually sick, and ending up in a big mess. Also as part of a self care plan following topic tuesday, I need to keep in mind the idea that I 'can't help someone if I can't help myself' so now I am left kind of staring at the idea of a sick person and not knowing what to do! I might have to spend some time in that hammock looking at the stars and working it. Or just leave it up to @Spookytookims who is doing an amazing job of stepping in where my T part steps out 😉

I'm going to say goodnight now. I'm feeling very blegh. It's kind of a nice change to have blegh in a more physical rather than emotional/mental way tonight. Being able to point at my throat and say 'that hurts' is pleasantly simple. If only thoughts and feelings were more like that sometimes!

Goodnight friends 🙂
