Adventures on Turtle Island

Adventures on Turtle Island

Edit:

Welcome to Turtle Island!

What began as a discussion about personality types based on the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, quickly found a few of us marooned on an Island in the shape of a turtle (see below), in the South Pacific. We are currently having all kinds of adventures using our MBTI types to work out what might happen. If you're looking for some light-hearted fun, everyone is welcome to come along to stay or just visit. (You can get an idea of your MBTI here if you're interested.) Recently we found a (non-existent) suggestion box on the Island, we think it's come from an elusive island neighbour, so you're welcome to just fly (or swim) past and drop us some suggestions too.

Niqueeta wrote a fabulous prelude to Turtle Island here:

Turtle Island : The Night Before

Spookytookims has written some awesome episodes which can be found here:

The First Morning

Turtle Island episode 2

Turtle Island episode 3 (this one even has pictures!)

Turtle Island episode 4: Shipwreck Salvage

Turtle Island: The Lurgi Strikes (part 1)

Turtle Island: The Lurgi Strikes (part 2)

We now have a welcome sign which is also our Island flag:

And here we are in a message in a bottle on the sand as drawn by Lil-Caterpillar!

Here are some views of our Island - isn't it spectacular?!

Looking forward to bumping in to you!

This is how it all began....

****************

Personality and what makes us us is something I find really interesting and I think there would be a few of us out there who share that interest.

@Spookytookims and I were having a chat about MBTI and the differences in our 'types'. I've found myself pondering what factors in our personalities might influence our interactions and the way a deeper understanding of people may improve communication. I like thinking about what makes two or more people 'click' or not.

While it's difficult to imagine the world being split into a small number of personality 'types', I am interested in what different personality tests offer us in terms of gaining insight or understanding.

Maybe an interesting discussion if anyone wants to join 🙂

Re: All things personality

zegactly @CheerBear I'm a bit ambivalent to the partner issue, I tend to think other factors would automatically come into play and the MBTI type would be kind of secondary or incidental. I'm kind of convinced there would be a pattern if you actually looked into it but I doubt it is anything that should come into consideration as a priority. I really don't like the idea of saying something like "ok I really like XXXX's so I'm going to find one of those to the exclusion of all others" type thing. I think that's where you really start going off the deepend on it and allowing it to define things that just aren't supposed to be driven by it.

I think Jung intended it to be more for personal insight and learning about yourself and each other, but not to dictate decisions. That's my thoughts on that side of it anyhow. He was too much about self awareness and definiing Ego (self) than bothering about using it as a tool to find a partner.

And... I keep tellilng you.. I do not do rules!!! 😛 But I will make an exception on the island because I understand now exactly why phoenix needs them. She needs them for other reasons other than the idea of it just being for authority. She needs it for her calmness and piece of mind. Which means any rules that are made must be thought out very very deeply before we make them because she will be sent into a dark place if we change them or can't stick to them.

That challenges and complicates, just what an INTP likes... so I'll really have to think about this and put the rules up for discussion in the next episode. If everyone wants a next episode that is.

I was wanting it to be devoted to basically your meeting place and the rule discussions.

Re: All things personality

Ok well do you want it to be more like we're gathered here at the moment. Rules are 'needed'. I'm cool with whatever rules are made. Probably.

My suggestion for a rule is that any major decisions we make need to be discussed and all island inhabitants are able to contribute/put forward suggestions if they'd like. If we can't all agree, we go with majority. If it's a 50/50 then we nominate a 'leader' and defer to their judgment (obviously this needs to be done asap).

In the meantime, I know water and food are important but if you can squeeze in some time to figure out how to make me one of these for when I'm feeling sad that would be great please. My heart is a bit sore and I'd like to hang here until it passes. Thanks.

Ps definitely agree with all of the above re partners.

Re: All things personality

hahhaha you know my mind is spinning with the possibilities of what that picture might be @CheerBear... atm I'm tending towards it might be a teddy bear! But the practical side of me is saying.. "no it won't be a bloody bear" then the other side is saying "it probably is, cos it's her after all" lol

PS: regarding rules I think they all have to be discussed because it's so important for them to be rules everyone can follow because Phoenix needs that more than anything. Problem is I am not sure there are any rules I can follow! That's the complication!!

@CheerBear so this meeting you had with phams and got the c-link plan sorted - can they do anything as a govt department or did you just get advice on how you should proceed?

Re: All things personality

I'm in a pickle because i have a 3month exemption due to MI. I was told after that I'd either need to 'get another diagnosis' (wtaf?!!) or get a c-link psych to do an evaluation. They've told me that the report from my clinical psych who I've been working with forever won't count for anything. I laughed while bawling that they'd expect someone to recover completely from ptsd and mdd (plus the added rubbish that comes along with running, like yanno homelessness and stuff) in 3 months and was told that this c-link worker had just had an exemption for a woman with breast cancer declined because it passed the 3 months and she couldn't reapply with the same diagnosis. As much as I want to return to life beyond the walls of home I can't at the moment, when going to the supermarket and not being able to find the right sized block of cheese can cause me to feel like the world is ending. Or hearing a song on the radio. Or any hint of the life that was if it happens at the wrong time. I can't do an psych evaluation because that's about as retraumatising as I can imagine, though maybe shaking and stuttering and crying big ugly snotty tears in front of a psych would help my cause. Today I was planning on starting the plan to get back to uni in tiny baby steps but had the very huge realisation that really it's going to depend on what the powers that be tell me I have to do in weeks time when the exemption expires. So we've organised to speak to a c-link worker person early next week and go from there @Spookytookims. I feel a bit crap tonight really. Kind of got that whole ehy me, it's not fair, this shouldn't have happened thing happening. So I'm swinging on that beautiful chair (not sure if the pic is up yet) in a nest with my blanket until I'm ready to move on again I think.

Re: All things personality

I reckon you could make one of those if I taught you how to weave the baskets @CheerBear You could find something stronger to weave for one of those... problem might be the rope. Could probably do it like you do billum rope.. which is by rolling a number of strips of a fibre together to strengthen it then that becomes a single cord, I could see could loop that over a branch and tie it together just under the branch but hooking it onto the "seat" .. could probably work something out but it would be trial and error on that part I think unless we found something suitable down the beach.. or you pulled something out of those trusty pockets 😛

Re: All things personality

*off to find lots of vines to start making a billum rope*

I'll be Bear Grylls before we know it @Spookytookims 😉

Re: All things personality

omg I so know that re the cheese!!!! omg that type of thing I thought only happened to me! Oh god isn't that just ridiculous when that happens.. when you know it's not the damn end of the world.. that without that stupid PTSD it would be nothing.. .but with it it's like OMFG they don't have the damn right cheese what next.. I can't do this anymore!! @CheerBear

See that's the crap these pen pushes just don't get. They need people who have had this stuff happen to them in those positions so they know what it takes and they know how it feels. Theory on it doesn't help one bit, you can't understand what it feels llike from a fricken book or set of rules! No way can you even come close to it.

Then all the added stresses of them saying about the renewal status and not only the wrong size block of cheese has you in tears, but the wrong size carrot does too.

Re: All things personality

hahahaha bear Grylls... do you see the irony in that name? Re our bears and hearts and stuff... ya know 😛 @CheerBear

and I think you should still start doing those baby step things regardihg return to uni. Just as if the other shite isn't happening. why not? It's going to make yourself feel better doing it and it wil always be there then waiting for that "right" time even if this time isn't it. But just tell them what you said to me about the crying over cheese.. sometimes it helps them to see the human side.. I've done it with people before.. often truth resonates so much better than what is "expected" and it can have a huge impact.

Tell them how it feels.... hey that's your forte so you more than anyone should be able to do that... then let them decide to be heartless.. I'm telling you it will be a lot harder for them to be heartless if you lay that on the line in front of them. Face to face if possible, just words and they can ignore it, make them connect to your pain and situation. Make them FEEL it.
