Adventures on Turtle Island

Adventures on Turtle Island

Edit:

Welcome to Turtle Island!

What began as a discussion about personality types based on the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, quickly found a few of us marooned on an Island in the shape of a turtle (see below), in the South Pacific. We are currently having all kinds of adventures using our MBTI types to work out what might happen. If you're looking for some light-hearted fun, everyone is welcome to come along to stay or just visit. (You can get an idea of your MBTI here if you're interested.) Recently we found a (non-existent) suggestion box on the Island, we think it's come from an elusive island neighbour, so you're welcome to just fly (or swim) past and drop us some suggestions too.

Niqueeta wrote a fabulous prelude to Turtle Island here:

Turtle Island : The Night Before

Spookytookims has written some awesome episodes which can be found here:

The First Morning

Turtle Island episode 2

Turtle Island episode 3 (this one even has pictures!)

Turtle Island episode 4: Shipwreck Salvage

Turtle Island: The Lurgi Strikes (part 1)

Turtle Island: The Lurgi Strikes (part 2)

We now have a welcome sign which is also our Island flag:

And here we are in a message in a bottle on the sand as drawn by Lil-Caterpillar!

Here are some views of our Island - isn't it spectacular?!

Looking forward to bumping in to you!

This is how it all began....

Personality and what makes us us is something I find really interesting and I think there would be a few of us out there who share that interest.

@Spookytookims and I were having a chat about MBTI and the differences in our 'types'. I've found myself pondering what factors in our personalities might influence our interactions and the way a deeper understanding of people may improve communication. I like thinking about what makes two or more people 'click' or not.

While it's difficult to imagine the world being split into a small number of personality 'types', I am interested in what different personality tests offer us in terms of gaining insight or understanding.

Maybe an interesting discussion if anyone wants to join 🙂

Re: All things personality

Haha Bear Grylls!

I will try @Spookytookims. I do feelings well, just not my own in huge doses so it's a matter of making sure I do it in a way that doesn't break me. I'll find a way, I always do. And I haven't gotten this far for a little hiccup to set me back. While there's still so much to sort out like housing, c-link, finances, the emotional/psychological/physical wellbeing of boat and fish etc it's hard to pretend those things aren't happening for the sake of uni so I do have to stop and wait. These are some of the steps I need to take. But it won't be forever and it will be worth it. And imagine how great it will feel when I do get that piece of paper, knowing the journey I went on to get there!

Re: All things personality

even maybe write out a plan.... just to have it there... Headed "When I can think about Uni" or something.. I'm sure you will come up with something a lot more inspiring than that of course! Then list the baby steps you were thinking about. So it is there as a reminder that you ARE going to get there and what you WILL be doing when you do get there. @CheerBear

Re: All things personality

Something to keep in mind @CheerBear re the return to uni thing. Another reason why I think the list would be positive is it is a reminder that when things are ready.. of what you intend to do, yes. But the thing to keep in mind too is that if you are at that crying over cheese stage, speaking from experience here, if you are anything like me you are no way in a frame of mind to properly make notes during lectures or even concentrate on writing essay plans, let alone essays and finding sources.

So if you think about it this way... get all the other shit sorted, then build towards the uni return. Remembrer those russian dolls of mine? chip away chip away, remember the boat? take time to smell the roses where you are and allow things to move with the current. You are always wanting to pick up that damn or and force it. You might need the ant stance too one day, me thinks. 😛

*Sneaks in to drop a note into the suggestion box - "Not to diss your weaving skills but there's probably plenty of rope on the shipwreck if anyone's in the mood for a swim. How far off shore did it wreck? Which way was the rip going?"*

*Adds another note - "Want to attract attention of rescue party or nah? (Guess it depends on modern vs. older setting, if anyone knows you're out there, and whether you want to be rescued!)"*

Re: All things personality

Got busy with soup. Best thing on a freezing day!

Haha Spooky no ant stance needed but thanks. I'm doing a pretty good job of resisting my urge to force it to be 'fixed'. The systems are pushing me that's all, so I'm trying to slooooooow it all down there. I know my fix it mode wants to suck it all up and get on with it but I too know that crying over cheese means I'm not ready so I'm doing everything I can to make sure I'm not setting myself up for failure, even if it hurts in the meantime.

All will be ok @Spookytookims, as it will for you too. Thanks for the chat 💛 catchya when we're both back

Re: All things personality

It's @TheVorticon coming with ideas! Welcome back to turtle island - it's a pleasure to have you here.

I'm quite happy living here, where the biggest worry is how to make a nest in a tree above a creek (oh, and water and stuff but the others have that covered haha). Not sure about the rest of them though...

😊

Just been reading and trying not to interfere @CheerBear 🙂 Although couldn't hold my tongue on those ones haha 😛
Sorry to hear about all the centrelink stress.

Re: All things personality

Not interfering at all, it's contributing and it's fab whenever you want to come past @TheVorticon!

Thanks, btw. I'm sure we all have our share of annoyances and this is one of mine. It'll be ok 🙂

Re: All things personality

@CheerBear I'm really sorry to hear about your CL saga. I am on the disability pension and although I hate being on it, I am also terrified of getting booted off it before I'm in a position to support myself. I don't understand why they said a report from your clinical psych wouldn't count for anything. I know they are making it harder and harder to get support but I'd be very surprised if that was true.

When I needed to apply for welfare, everyone at CL told me not to bother applying for the DSP because I wouldn't get it. Nevertheless I did apply (I had nothing to lose) and was approved. I did see one of their psychologists. I took with me a letter from my own psychologist and one from a psychiatrist who I had only seen once but who was happy to write a two line letter saying she agreed with what my psychologist had said. I also took a neuropsych assessment that I'd had done.

To be honest, I was surprised that I got the DSP. I have a feeling that the fact I'd had a workplace incident in which police and ambulance were called and a workcover investigation was conducted, might have played a part in me getting it. Basically I'm seen as a "risk to self and others" in the workplace.

So...I guess what I'm saying is that I wouldn't take as gospel what anyone at CL says. Have you heard of the "impairment tables"? This is what they use to assess people for the DSP. Basically you have to score so many points (I think it is 20) on the table to qualify. So if you look at the tables and think you qualify and then the psych at CL says you don't, you could always appeal it. The other requirements are that the condition is diagnosed, fully treated and stable, and not expected to improve within 2 years.

@TheVorticon I love that you dropped by on our island.

@Spookytookims I think you are fretting over the rules far more than need be. I'm sure they will evolve naturally.

@CheerBear I love the chair over the water...but how the heck do you get into it???
