Using writing to anchor myself through trauma and isolation

Using writing to anchor myself through trauma and isolation

Hello.

I wanted to share a bit of my story. I am someone who uses language, structure, and writing to survive and reverse the effect of complex trauma(specifically, poetry).

Right now, I'm facing a lot of external frustration—bureaucracy blocks with Medicare, no working phone, and being ostracised by my family because of a clinical label (schizoaffective bipolar) that fundamentally misses the mark of who I am.

I know my mind operates on an autistic, systemising spectrum, but no one around me seems to take my reality seriously.

Even though it’s difficult, I keep writing because it’s what I do. I am determined to figure this out. I'm posting here hoping to connect with others who use creative structures to cope, or anyone who knows what it's like to be isolated by a label.

Hello @WrittenOnStars,

I just wanted to validate how understandable it is that your usual go-to regulation strategies haven't been as helpful as usual today. Losing a friend is no small thing and I am so sorry to hear about your loss. It sounds like your body may have been experiencing a flood of emotion in that moment. I wonder if co-regulation would be helpful right now? For example, speaking to a loved one? Or maybe even something that is sensory-based regulation, like a warm shower?

Our forums crew are here for you. Sending big hugs your way. 💛

And in a startling revelation today I found out I’ve had Medicare since September 1st…they just never sent me anything to confirm it.

I also got the number for Medicares Mental Health line today too, so on the up and up :)

@WrittenOnStars Sorry to hear about this and for your loss! Sad news.

A big info drop like that would overwhelm your system, the timing and the processing of it is understandable your normal coping mechanisms were not present. Such as shock when life events like that occur and for it to sink in.

No wonder your body felt those physical symptoms and it is draining to process it. Feel for you. In time your techniques should return and will await to see what you come up with.

Take care and take it easy as best you can

Thoughts with you
