Recognition for the work that carers do

Recognition for the work that carers do

Hello people in Carers Forum Land. I've never ventured over here from the lived experience forum and I'm feeling all shy. However, this article landed in my inbox this morning and I thought it would be of interest over here. I don't actually have any family or friends myself, but I know that carers do an amazing job in supporting those that they love. If anyone here does happen to feel like adopting someone with Borderline Personality Disorder, I'm open to it. I mean, what could be more fun than having someone (or another someone) with BPD in your life! Here's the link to the article: http://theconversation.com/heres-how-much-it-would-cost-the-government-to-pay-everyone-who-takes-care-of-family-with-mental-illness-74760?utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Latest%20from%20The%20Conversation%20for%20March%2023%202017%20-%2070265274&utm_content=Latest%20from%20The%20Conversation%20for%20March%2023%202017%20-%2070265274+CID_3e0041eadb6d09286518efab7811c5a4&utm_source=campaign_monitor&utm_term=Heres%20how%20much%20it%20would%20cost%20the%20government%20to%20pay%20everyone%20who%20takes%20care%20of%20family%20with%20mental%20illness

Hey @Phoenix_Rising
I do hope you find something just a little bit special to do for your 40th.

Re: Recognition for the work that carers do

Thanks @Former-Member.

My psychologist and I are having a "party" in her office on Tuesday, and then on my actual birthday I am planning to take myself out to lunch at an amazing all-you-can-eat place nearby. Then I figure I'll eat so much, I'll come home and spend a few hours sleeping it off.

@Zoe7 and @CheerBear have also been plotting planning a party for here in Forum Land which I super appreciate. I had a virtual party on the uni forum for my 30th and I cherish that memory...so I know how super cool virtual parties can be.

Re: Recognition for the work that carers do

It's a secret surprise party @Former-Member, so I have no idea how @Phoenix_Rising knows about it 😛 Hope to see you there Darcy 🙂

(I think this might be my first post here on the other side!)

Re: Recognition for the work that carers do

Thanks for letting me know @CheerBear, your secret is safe with me.

PS Are friends from the 'other side' able to gate crash if they managed to somehow find out about when and where they should be?

@CheerBear Giggle. Well I do only know that a party is taking place. I don't know any of the details. I do feel curious when the party-planning thread appears in the "recent posts" bit of the screen but I have exercised great self control and not peeked. I will read that thread after the party. As I've mentioned, I am planning to get out of the house for a good part of the day on Thursday. I hope that fits with the party plans. I will have my phone with me so I will definitely be following along with the festivities even if I'm not in a position to write a lot.

Re: Recognition for the work that carers do

Hey @Phoenix_Rising

Hoping it went OK with the first of your celebrations.

We are heading interstate Thursday and will be out of internet zone in the evening - just so you know there is no carer neglect should a certain secret event, which we have not been informed of, at a time yet to be established, be scheduled when I am in territory you would be familiar with - at sea.

First time visiting family since Mr Darcy attempted so there is a bit of nervousness on his behalf and I do feel it too but really looking forward to having a break.

Thinking of you especially this week.
Darcy
